i am thinking of painting the tips a flat black....the paint i ahve said i can apply to surfaces that do not exceed 200f

ummm i wouldnt take the trouple to get them powdercoated if i can easily spray them myslef.......a bigger job yes i would consider powdercoating.....

I think they would get over 200. think, exhaust is near 1200 coming into exhaust manifold.

no way do they get over 200......only your cats and exhaust manifolds get over 400....they can go up to 1000+ but thats only when your on the throttle hard. Tips should get no hotter than 150 or so.

200F or C? I think 200F would be close, but not quite. Definitely not 200C.

i used bbq paint and it has held up fine...painted and heat cured it and then actually went over with a hi temp clear for engine parts...no problems so far

My muffler and tips are painted black. No problems so far.

The tips get hot, but I think that a BBQ would get much hotter, so go with a BBQ or other High Temp spray to be safe. My ? is what kind of prep work would be necessary to get the spray to really stick good to the chrome? Also, do the OEM quad tips on a B7 simply pull off or are they welded on?

light sanding ??? or just thorough cleaning of the surface...degreasing as well

paint should be fine. caliper paint might be best. rustoleum paint holds up well in heat also

well weve pin pointed the paint.....now any ideas on removing and putting those tips back on ??? it may be simple i really havent looked yet.....

thanks man, they are actually aftermarket tips that i prepped and painted (bbq paint with hi temp clear) before having them wlded on.

i would think the tips could be painted on the car with a very careful masking job and access to a lift would certainly help. if would probably be much easier if the exhaust was taken off of the car though.
