    Child car seat in A4

How well does a child car seat in a 2006 A4? Can you put it in the center or do you have to put it behind one of the front seats?

    Thanks,

    Dennis

I have the Recaro child-seat in my car, located behind the passenger seat. I didn't put it on the center cuz it scares me. I'll post pics later when I get home from work.

We have a Britax car seat. I think I'm going to put it behind the passenger front seat. I'd definitely like to see pics! Thanks!

here is a pic with both seats in

It's pretty tight, but it works. I talked to some engineering friends and they did not recommend putting the seat in the middle. I am not an engineer, but they said something about the latch points being too far apart and allowing too much side to side movement.

here are a couple with just the one seat

^^Nice!!^^ You saved me from doing the leg work... that looks exactly like my set-up... my daughter's recaros is entirely charcoal color... I also have a Britax -- that's in my wife's Pathfinder

LOL, I also have a seat cushion between the car-seat and the car's seat

I have two of the Britax seats in my B7 avant and they fit great...I took out the headrests to allow them to sit closer to the rear seat. The girls are almost 2 now...and do kick the back of the seats...but I just put protectors on and it keeps them clean!

This is true. LATCH specification are for anchors to be spaced 280mm apart. When using the center seating position, you can not use LATCH and must use the seatbelt.

If you want to see tight, I actually have 3 seats sandwiched in the back of my A4 right now while the Q7 is in the shop. You can't do it with the Britax or Recaro, though as they're too wide. I'm using Radian 65s which are pretty narrow.

Re: Child car seat in A4

Rear facing seats are tight in the back of an a4, irregardless of where you place it. But it can be done in a pinch. I own a peg perrego rear facing for my daughter (now 8 mos.) and with the seat in the center position I need to slide the front seats up too much for me to be comfortable. Behind the passenger would be ideal because of the latching...and besides who cares how comfortable the pass. is anyhow
    DTM....FTW!!!!

Do you have more info on the protectors? My son will be 2 when #2 comes along, and I expect he'll be on the driver's side to make room for the rearward facing car-seat of his younger sibling on the passenger side.

Re: Child car seat in A4

I need a child seat for an 18 month old that will fit in the center of a 2008 A4 Avant with 2 adults in the rear seats. Any suggestions? Is this possible? Practical? If not, I'll need something to mount at least one of those folks on the roof rack!!!
    Thanks,

Re: Child car seat in A4

Here is what I did with my B7. I use the Britax Marathon - very nice seat - and I installed behind passenger seat using latch. But, I removed the back headrest to make sure the upper teather (s.p.) fit well. The seat is great, it fits in very positive, and when I had to take it out to get a loaner, the leather seat did rebound back up after being compressed.

And my son is 19 months old. By the way, there is a weight limit to the LATCH system, so check that out.

I had to buy two seats one for my wifes car and one for mine, and I might mentiong I bought the "designer" ver.... not to be cool, but the fabric is better (not nylon) and breathes. But, if you buy two ask the store to discount them (since you buy two) then will be cheaper than buying the "stock" ver. at BabysRus.

    just my 2 cents,
    l

Re: Child car seat in A4

I installed the Britax Marathon behind the passenger's seat as well. I took lake's advice and took off the headrest and the seat fit much better this way. lake, what is the upper teather you're talking about? I had the marathon in my Jeep Cherokee and there wasn't anywhere to put an upper tether. I think I know what you're talking about but I'll have to check. I remembered reading about cars having an extra latch on the rear deck lid. Is that what you mean?

BTW, the seat fits perfectly. I put a black towel underneath it to try to protect the seat from getting marks from the baby seat when I pull it tight. I don't think it helped though. I'm glad to read your's came back to shape when you took your baby seat out.

I don't know if you found it in your audi already -- the upper tether latch is located behind the headrest... there is a black plastic cap covering the latch -- upper tethers in SUVs and wagons are usually located near the bottom of the seat-back (at least that is the case in my wife's Pathfinder and our former Lexus IS300 Sportcross)

Ok, so I know this thread is over 2 years old. ANyone have any new input? My son is about to be too heavy for his infant carrier and I need to purchase a real one. I was looking at the Recaro Como and Sigmo. Anyone have any advise/ recommendations?
    Thanks,

The Como and Signo were both recalled last year. Be sure to check with the store to make sure it is the newest version.

I'm currently running two Recaro Young Start seats and they fit great in the Avant and in the VW. They are a bit of a pain though when using as a booster seat. Really hard to reach around the seat to latch the seat belt.

"Mar. 12, 2009 - Recaro is recalling some Como and Signo car seats because a spring in the locking cam was manufactured to the wrong dimensions. Only Como and Signo car seats made between Nov. 1, 2007 and Feb. 16, 2009 are included. The center front adjuster strap can slip on affected models, meaning the harness may not be securely tightened. Children in affected car seats may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash. Recaro will notify registered owners and replace affected Como and Signo car seats. Call 888-473-2290 for more information."

We bought our Recaro after the recall for our at the time 6 month old daughter (now shes 9 months) and she loves it! It is a very big seat, but my wife and I feel real safe with her in it. Good Luck!

I just purchased the Recaro Pro Ride. Its a huge seat. I definitely am happy knowing my little one is safe in it.

Sorry to bump this up again, how are 2 front facing car seats? I know they usually fit better than the rear facing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Crazy, replying to a 14 YEAR OLD thread. But, yes, the B7 A4 is a perfect size for car seats and allowing little kids to get in and out. My kids love riding in the Audi and the B7 is a great size for allowing them to climb in and out easily. The back seat is just large enough to comfortably accomodate two car seats, but a little bit more room would be nicer. If no one is riding in the front, you are going to be fine:
