Rough idle, RPM's bounce up and down, and dropping real low....

Will a torn DV cause this problem?? Or does a torn DV just affect holding boost?? I'm guessing rough idle and rpms jumping up and down would be the cause if a bad PCV??

I'm still spiking 19psi and holding around 16 or 17, so i'm thinking my DV is fine??

Mine is doing the same thing - it's at the dealership for 2 days already.
I will know tomorrow what exactly they replaced =(

Like i can be sitting at a light and the RPM's will jump up to about 1,500 and then drop back down to normal idle. Or if i'm coming to a stop and i puch the clutch in, the RPM's will drop down to like 400, and kinda sputter, and then go back up to normal idle....The car NEVER stalls though..

PVC Valve? MAF sensor, TPS sensor? Usually one of those things, or at a worse case scenario...something internally may be blown.

I get the same thing cept it's while driving. The rpms go up and down but the car never jerks while i maintain constant speed.

i had a similar problem when i went to install my forge dv....the vaccum line that went to the tap off the intake manifold, came off...and there was a vac leak at that point...

maybe a vac leak somewhere in the miles of stupid piping under our hoods

i noticed this a few weeks ago...and now when i floor it in all gears i get a whistling noise...where as it would only whistle in 1st and 2nd.

Sounds like you have a torn diverter valve.

Whistling noise is a pretty good indicator or vacuum leak, or a hose leaking somewhere, either torn or pulled off.

Idle the engine and have a friend give throttle on off and listen for where it may be coming from. It might be as simple as the poster who just had to put the hose back on.

If not, then it'll need diagnostic.
I had a different car quite a few years back that developed an intake manifold gasket leak and the idle wouldn't calm down.
My buddy and I tracked it down with some propane gas and rubber hose.
We gave light gas from the hose and moved it around the intake parts until the idle changed. At the intake gasket, when the propane went through the gasket the idle went up. The gasket was bad on a relatively low mileage car (under 50k). It was a turbo 2.0 Mits engine.

I hate the dealerships in NYC....

The car has been there since the beginning of the week and it's still not fixed =(
They also did not have any loaner cars since the wait time is 5 weeks to get a loaner.....

06F-129-101-E VALVE
06F-103-483-E GASKET

My service adviser wasn't available during the pickup so I have no idea what kind of valve this is.... May be someone can identify them from part numbers... The car is fixed and seems to perform as well as before. Hope this helps.

wow five week time frame for a loaner car....glad I don't live out there. My dealership gives me a loaner anytime they will be needing my car for more than one day. I love my dealership.

mine did the same thing and it was water in the fuel. the dealer here in Germany put a hose down my tank then tested the fuel and found water. I just refilled my tank with fuel that morning and started to get the problem.

i have stable idle, no flapping sound, but do have whistling sound in first or second when i run it hard (around 5k rpm) I haven't felt a lost of power. Could the whistle noise be from something else?

Most likely it is the PCV valve, I searched and did my homework with the help of Audizine members took it to the dealership, told them to check the PCV and sure enough mine was bad and it had all the same symptoms. So check it out and keep us posted.

Its not the PCV , i just had mine replaced...its definitely the DV.

Where are the PC and diverter valves located? My wife's '06 does this......at idle rpm's will drop down under 1k, then bounce up to 1800 or so, then settle down to 1100-1200. Then it repeats. Car runs fine other than this. I'd like to replace these valves, so if you guys can tell me where they're located, and where to get replacements I'd appreciate it.

Sucks to read about this problem. Experienced a similar issue in my NA B5 but that would stall from the drops in rpms. Tried a bunch of things and never figured it out. Hope it doesn't happen to my b7

The same thing happened to me today. When I started the car, the rpm was low, not at its normal warm-up RPM and the car was shaking left and right. After a couple of restarts it seemed have gone away.

After driving on the HWY for a half hour, I stopped at a store and left the car on, when I came back to the car, it sounded a little different so I check my tacho and the RPM is all the way up to 1300, 3-4 seconds later it goes down close to stall and starts all over. My first thought at this point was PCV.

I'm gonna check under the hood tomorrow and do the PCV failure tests.

I am just 1000KM above warranty

I popped my hood this morning with the engine running, and the first thing I noticed is a constant hiss. I tried to take off my oil cap and could not. According to my thread reading/searching skills, the symptoms I mentioned are common on engines with a failed PCV.

Anyone know if PCV failure is just a TSB or an all out recall like the coils paks?

PCV is just a TSB, i see you are in toronto as well.. i brought my car to uptown and had it replaced the same afternoon

I had similar issue yesterday..and I got a CEL light.
Plus, there was a high pitch hissing sound as well.
I took the car to VW and let them check out the codes.
They told me the CEL was caused by bad spark plug/coilpacks.
And the hissing sound was probably related to fuel pump.
Does this sound right?? Thanks in advance.

about a year ago I had the same hissing problem. like mentioned above I tried removing the oil cap while still running but couldn't. I figured it was the PCV at the time as well but turns out it was the Crank Case breather valve. brought it into the dealer and they replaced it.

^^ GL though. I'm still trying to figure out my situation.. maybe I'll have them check it out when I bring the car in for the ignition coil recall?

2 days ago my cel came on and had a rough idle right between 500-800rpm jumping up and down so i brought it in and had the guys check it out. it just so happened that it was my pcv so i had it replaced today at open road audi. prior going for service, i had the vagcom read the codes and it said engine misfires on all 4 cyclinders but i knew that it wasnt the coils because i had 2 replaced last week. my guy showed me the pcv and it was clogged with oil biuld up. it is not the dv as some people had stated (maybe because i replaced the dv back in august?). the coils werent replaced, only my pcv. hopefully this info helps out.

I have this problem too on my 08 S3.

Sometime if i am on 2nd gear go up to 5k rpm and put in neutral and let the car run itself. the RMP goes up and down.

And it will keep doing it until the car comes to full stop, or after i step the clutch in.

And found one of my injector is leaking.

CEL 000772 fault with Cyl 4 misfire MIL

I have the same issue, although on cold start. Rough idle, RPM hanging around 1200-1300, then after warm up, RPM drops to 600-800 and get a shaking feeling and horrible misfiring on revs. Very bad gas mileage at around 195-240 mpg on a full tank, where my usual MPG was at 295 miles. Audi tech says bad injector.

Dropped the car off at Tai VW (Hawaii), changing out the injectors and cam follower. Hoping this will solve the problem. I will post results later.

My doesn't even have fault code yet.

I think it isn't doing enough to show it yet.

But will get it check out soon.

Final result, bad injector on #4. Changed out and replaced all 4 injectors, and changed the cam follower out as well. Also, installed my 034 HFC and now the car is back to normal. Quicker turbo spool on the lower end. Glad its fixed.

Haven't get a chance to fix my car yet.

But i am guessing its the same problem.

Bad Injectors or the Injectors sits.

We check it today change the plugs and coil pack around still #2 is doing it.

So will have to wait till the work shop is free then we will pull this apart.

Now hopping that's the problem.
