    Tiptronic transmission fluid change

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just had my tranny fluid changed for the third time. I am now at 151K. The last fluid changed was at 99K w/o filter. I mentioned having problems and pulling a cell about the torque converter being stuck. I also read another thread on how if you have over 110K on your tranny "do not change your fluid because your tranny likes all the sludge and metal flakes". Well, that statement was sooo far off but it actually had me thinking.

The fluid that came out was as black as tar. When I looked at the filter it had metal flakes, dirt, and just looked like hell

In any case, my cell never came back, shifts are smooth and the torque converter does not slip like it did prior to the fluid change. I highly suggest to change the fluids at least every 60K along with the filter and pan gasket.

Parts list for tiptronic fluid service/change...

    Audi/VW ATF transmission oil (6 quarts) $18 - $22 each
    Audi/VW pan gasket $45 - $68 01V32137 (comes w/ O-ring)
    Audi transmission filter $82 01V325429

FYI, the fill for the tiptronic trans is on the passanger side of the tranny and you will need a pump to fill. I also suggest that while you have the pan removed you cycle through the gears once. You will see more of the old fluid drain out. There is also no dipstick but the service does call for 6 quarts. If I mentioned "Audi/VW" that means you can get it cheaper at a VW dealership. Alot cheaper.

    No pics, forgot my camera.

What do you mean by cycle through the gears once? I'm planning on replacing my wife's A4 tranny fluid pretty soon.

I had some metal flakes as well when Level10 did my VB upgrade at 32K. They were surprised that these Audi's where doing this.

Get all four wheels up in the air and cycle through the gears one time while the pan is off. you can only do this while the filter is removed.

I dont know the part number for the fluid. Im sure its the same 1.8 and 3.0. VW uses the same as well. All I know is the bottles are black and have Audi, VW, and ATF on the label.

I couldnt wait for shipping so I had to get mine at the dealer. Had I known ahead of time I would have ordered from ECS.

you can get the pentosin too. i do germanautoparts dot com since they charge you actual bulk-rate ups fees instead of buffing the price on fees (not saying ecs does that)

    Re: Tiptronic transmission fluid change

Good tip. I'm @ 60k now, so I'll have to see when the last time it was changed.

EDIT: I also forgot to add that my engine (not when I owned it, the previous owner), had the entire engine replace by Audi due to sludge.

Sludge is never a good thing, unless you're making a snowball.
