Want to buy a 2004 S4, how reliable?

    Hi all,

I have never owned an Audi but am interested in buying this S4:

    http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/422516544.html

Is that a good deal? Could you tell me how reliable an used S4 is? Does it cost a lot to repair/maintenant? What should I look for if I go see this car? Are there any common/known issues for 2004 S4?

    Any input is greatly appreciated...

    Thank you.

Shoot on over to this forum for the B6 S4...

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=46

As for reliability it largely depends on the car. The pre 10/03 build date cars are much more prone to problems. For example, i've had MANY more problems with my B6 S4 than even both of my turbo A4 cars that had turbo upgrades on them. In fact, I have had over 4 grand in warranty work in just the past year with 6 dealership visits in 11 months and not one single "major" failure despite the cost of repair.

    cheers! Mike

Reliable compared to what? A Toyota, no, a mid 90s Land Rover, yes.

I bought my 05 S4 Avant w/ 36k put on it....have had no issues over the first two months now, but I bought mine through an Audi dealership so that I could get a CPO extended warranty on it. Bumper to bumper, fully covered for 4years 100k.

Re: Want to buy a 2004 S4, how reliable?

Normal maintainence on a S4 is still not cheap! My monthly gas has doubbled to about $ 500/ month, oil change is $ 130 per 6000 km (9 bottles of AMSOil Synthetic), tires are not cheap at all..... if there is an Audi extended warranty, you might wanna make sure you go to Audi for every scheduled maintainence until that warranty is over....

Re: Want to buy a 2004 S4, how reliable?

my s4 is dying. i hate audi of america. I of course have a pre 10/03 car. Its misfiring and they can't figure out why. they are trying to blame it on wear and tear.

if you get a car, good luck. i sure as hell wouldn't say its reliable.
