Stock B6 A4 1.8TQ vs. Stock Jetta MKIV 1.8T

So my girlfriend has an '03 1.8TM Jetta FWD and I've got an '04 1.8TMQ A4 (stock at the time I did this). I understand her car is significantly lighter in weight than mine, and I've got a quattro system.

Now her car totally just blew mine away stock. I couldn't keep up at all. Is this normal, or could there have been a boost leak in my car at the time? I'm just wondering if weight plays that much of an issue in this. Our stock B6 A4's are slow as hell, but with the same engine I figured it might be a close call...but it wasn't at all.

All in all even though my car is ten times cooler than hers...I still had to deal with all of the sh*t she gave me! haha

Well I know the jetta prolly was about 400lbs lighter without passengers, so your gonna just have to factor in your weights to find the weight difference.

As for the hp difference, I guess its the same so the weight should have played the biggest factor.

Race her now with the chip and see what she has to say about her precious jetta.

it's a comparison thread. not one complaining about how slow our cars are. same engine and getting smoked = curiosity.

quattro = more drivetrain loss.

Plus Jetta has 180hp I believe.

Jetta is 100's of lbs lighter, has 10% less DT loss, and also has 10hp more

dont forget the jetta is 180 hp while ours is 170hp. so with 400lb lighter and an extra 10hp w/fwd, it'll be less mass to move vs ours. if she can launch it perfectly without tirespin, she'd have a significant lead

Weight and DT loss plays a big factor. Since you put the chip in, race her again. I really want to know the difference

MKIV Jettas weight about 3100lbs...so 300-400lbs lighter. they have 180hp/173tq stock. we have 170/166. Plus, DT loss...wheel HP of ~150 for the fwd and ~135 for a quattro...you didn't have a chance.

A chipped B6 will run with a stock 1.8T jetta/gti.
A 1+ B6 will walk a stock 1.8T jette/gti.
A K04 is needed to keep up with a chipped 1.8T jetta/gti.

Our beloved 1.8Ts are soo much more fun in a lightweight fwd gti. the B6s are really pigs.

my Mk4 jetta was faster than my B6 A4. My wifes MK4 TDi puts down more tq than my KO4'd B6 A4.

Quattro and an abundance of sound deadening materials. These are all ests. The trans +50lbs, driveshaft 30lbs, diff. 60lbs., axles 25lbs. each. Plus the rear subframe, and about 100lbs of sound deadening materials.

I have a FWD 1.8t with revo 1+ and my friend has a MKIV GTI with a weak neuspeed chip and his car is quite a bit faster, even when im on race gas.

FWIW, my brother has an '03 Jetta 1.8TM with standard bolt ons... turbo back 2.5" exhaust, upgraded piping on stock IC, TIP, CAI, and 93 octane chip.

His full weight Jetta runs 14.0@99mph on the stock clutch ;) It's simple physics... weight vs hp.

My 2005 GLI has just GIAC software and it is pretty quick. The 1.8t is spiky though, I've owned 5 1.8ts, both stock and chipped and they are all spiky. I had a 2000 1.8t avant with APR software, it was decently quick, but still slower because of all the weight and drivetrain loss.

Now with my S, they all feel horribly, horribly slow.
