    Kosei K1TS or BBS RC??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking at replacing my 17" A6 fat fives with a lighter wheel.

The primary purpose of the wheel is for long distance driving to save wear on my 20s and to be a track wheel in case of rain when r-compounds shouldn't be used.

    So the choices are:

Set of new 17x8 ET35 Kosei K1-TS that weigh about 16lbs

    or

Set of used 18x8.5 ET32 BBS RC that weigh about 19lbs

The tires in either case will be Falken 615s

    So... which one?

I'm kind of favouring the BBS since they are wider but the Kosei are lighter. Will the 3lbs of weight savings be that noticeable?

Re: Kosei K1TS or BBS RC??

    I vote for:

Based on your predisposition for high-end sh!t, BBS should be your choice. The 18s might weigh closer to 20-21lbs while the 17s are 19lbs. Chances are you won't notice a difference between the two. I've hit a couple of massive pot holes and the 17s held up perfect (run-out remained true). RCs would be some ballar track wheels a la Jet Jockey.

Yea BBS for sure, plus you can roll on them if you ever wanted to and still be on a better looking wheel

    BBS get my vote.
Plus the 17" Kosei will look really small. The Fat 5s are a chunkier wheel, so they don't look quite as little IMO.

bbs, but i would look at whatever is easier to replace in case something happens at the track (bent or cracked wheel)

Look for used Jetta GLI wheels (aka 18x8 BBS RC) They bend fairly easily. I had a Jetta GLI come into the shop for a rotate and rebalance. That man left with a frown. 4 bent wheels. I don't know what it took to bend them, but they looked horrible.

Re: Kosei K1TS or BBS RC??

But the OEM Audi BBS RC wheels are not exactly the same as the BBS release version.

From the digging I have done the 18x8.5 version is lighter than the 17x8 or 18x8 ones for some reason.

It would be pretty hard to mount a 5x100 bolt pattern wheel to a 5x112 hub.

    Winston,
for long distance driving and daily driving just get the 17s.
take that damn red valve stem off though =)

I'm assuming the koseis are cheaper wheel, and so will the tires.

17s aren't THAT small they are stock on our Avants and to be perfectly honest they look fine (if looks are what you're concerned about) as you are already dumped.

I think i'm getting old. bigger wheels are becoming less appealing to me! LOL.

If you're concerned about resale value later on down the line, get the BBSs.

track tires should be cheaper in a 17" size, as well as daily driving tires

The Koseis are actually more expensive since they would be coming new from Tirerack. Kosei are about $1300 shipped, the BBS $1000 shipped.

If the Kosei were a 5 spoke design I'd buy them already and it is how they look that is kind of throwing me off. Also having my 'wet' track wheel being lighter than the dry track OZs is a bit strange too.

But as I said before... I'd be going down to the track on one of these 2 wheels and then trowing on the track tires unless it is raining.
