Can you put staggered wheels on a Quattro?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I got some rims that are staggered. Size is 19" X 8.5 & 19" X 9.5. Someone told me this could cause problems. Is any of this true?

of course it is. just do a search of the thousands of people who've tried this. all of their quattro systems got confused and sent too much torque to the rear wheels and all the diffs burned up and the axles fell off the car.

    sucks

You've already had this question answered 5 months ago in the B7 forum, and then AGAIN today in the B7 forum. Do you really think you're going to get a different answer in here?

YES, YOU CAN STAGGER YOUR WHEELS IF YOU MATCH THE FRONT AND REAR TIRES PROPERLY.

Dude, who the hell are you to tell me what thread I can post and where? If you don't want to read my thread, don't effing open it.

And please tell me where I have gotten a straight answer regarding a quattro/staggered set up? Everyone on this and the 1 other thread has given me a mixed answer. One person say's it's going to f*ck up my car, and the next say's nothing will happen.

This is obviously a question that I would like to get a large feedback on. So if I want to post this in every board I want, then I will.

Now read this reply to your thread one more time. Do you really think anything would cause the axles to fly off the car? If you took that as a serious response than you have serious issues!

There are 100's of people all over AZ with every kind of Audi running staggered setups. As long as you keep the rolling diameters similar, you will be fine!!

yeah i saw this thread and was so anxious to see capt. obvious' response! but anyways, search for capt. obvious car with the HRE's, that stance was so sick, current setup looks sweet too, but those 18x10's were just NASTEE!

You will not have any issues running a staggered setup whatsoever. I would try to keep the rolling diameters as close as possible.

I can pretty much guarantee that this is the general consensus of the Audi community.

Well, if you don't like me posting in your thread and don't want accurate quality information, then don't read my response sweetie.

Not to sound pretentious, but if you want to know about making staggered/crazy offset/non-Audi wheels fit on your car, I am the one to ask. I know more about this kind of stuff than 99% of the people on this board and you will see soon that everyone agrees with me.

Re: Can you put staggered wheels on a Quattro?

Seriously, the only people who are telling you not to run staggered setup and say that you will have problems..........Do not run staggered setups and do not have the experience. plain and simple.

Listen to some of us who actually do run staggered setups on our quattro drive systems. We understand the importance of the wheel width, wheel offset, and most important, an understanding of appropriate tire sizing. If you run the correct size tires which should have equal rolling diameter in both the front and rear, you should not experience any problems with the drivetrain. The only issues you might incur are a bit more awareness of your cars understeer because of the larger surface area from tire to ground in the rear wheels.

and about your point about where and when to post.....yeah, we are telling you not to post repetitive shiet on these boards. A simple search could get you all the answers that you need and are looking for. Just look at the post that I made earlier, i provided links to several threads that relate to this topic (one thread being one of my own). And in regards to posting this in the B7 section, the B7 and B6 share the same Chassis, so all wheel applications are the same for both models. One person told you you would have problems running staggered, but did you bother to do the research? You're getting mixed answers because everybody has different setups, if you want information about running a staggered setup.....try taking advice from the people running staggered setup.

If you have 19x8.5 in the front and 19x9.5 in the rear, your tire sizes are gonna have a good dependency on your offsets. If your running less than a +35et. then you want to run 235/35/19 in the front and 245/30/19 in the rear. If you have +35et or above, then you want to run 235/35/19 in the front and 265/30/19 in the rear. This will give you the aggressive staggered look in the rear and not cause any issues. Although, with both setups, alignment is definately key. You want to run your camber in the rear to atleast -1.5 to prevent any rubbing issues. The rear wheels max out camber at -2.0 and many people run at this setup to have no rubbing at all. All in all, it can be done.................you just have to know what the fuck it is you're doing.

Re: Can you put staggered wheels on a Quattro?

you can't run different sized tires. your car will pull you all over the road....the previous owner of my car had 225 in the front and 235 in the rear and any little bump in the road would almost pull me into the lane next to me. As soon as I replaced the tires to all 235's the problem went away.

Re: Can you put staggered wheels on a Quattro?

1 inch difference is not enough - your front tires should be recessed about 6 inches in from the edge, and the back tires should stick out approximately 2/3rds of a tire width.

When staggered properly you should get not only better traction but a hot look:

That's not from staggering the tire sizes, that's from improper alignment and/or tire wear. I haven't had a car with staggered wheels (whether it be my RWD Supra, my FWD Jetta, or my AWD Audi) do anything of the sort.

Just for clarification, are you really saying that our cars, meaning Audi's, don't need alignment checks?

How about Audi, the RS3 is optioned with 255F/235R. On a side note OP, what is the offset on the 9.5 wheels in the rear?

    I have 19x8.5 front and 19x9.5 rear.

    Front tire is 235/35/19

    Rear tire is 265/30/19

Overall tire diameter is close enough to not cause any issues.

Without knowing the wheel offset or your suspension set up I can't say what will "fit", but 245/35 in the front and 275/30 in the rear will keep the tire circumference difference at <1%.
