S5 0-60 in 4.5 sec

I am sure with a little tweaking and some bolt ons the s5 can be right there too.

No one else finds these numbers questionable? I mean, i want to believe it's true but considering that the car weighs about 3600lbs w/o the driver and its awd. You'd figure the actual whp/wtq would be about 270/250 (~23% drivetrain loss). Would that be enough to propel it to 60 in 4.5 sec? 1/4 in 13.1 sec?

Their video on the S5. That's the one I've seen here in Malibu! At least I think it is... lol. Those canyons are DEFINITELY southern California, though! And listen at the end, RS5 is rumored to be a V10? wtf?

They definatly took attention on the weight just look at the distrubution 45/55 I mean those numbers are mind blowing for the stats i jsut hope they are true. But remember car magz have that 20ft start when they do 0-60

I have a feeling we are not going to see those kinds of numbers stateside. If we do, great, I'll have to pick one up... used of course. lol.

I just don't see 3600lbs in the U.S.

Even though Motor Trend is a little more "optimistic" than some other magazines,
those are GREAT numbers for the S5.

Why do I say Motor Trend's numbers are a little better than most other tests? As one example, they tested the 2006 Z06 Corvette and got 3.5 seconds 0-60, when most other mags averaged 3.7 seconds.

Nevertheless, adjusting for those two tenths, even 4.7 seconds 0-60 for the S5 is going to be fantastic. Can't wait to see one in my local dealer this November or so.

Are those numbers even correct?? That sounds a little too good. I could see it if that were the RS5, but just for the S5? Sounds a little too good to be true!!

It depends on whether or not the S5 has the S4's V8 or the S6's v10. There is a big power difference between those two engines.

Now that sounds more like it. I thought that the numbers quoted at the beginning of the thread sounded a bit too optimistic for the S5!!

The 5.1sec figure is the official Audi number. Up until now, I believe all numbers were factory quoted times. Hopefully they used official testing equipment when testing the Quarter Mile and on the skidpad. If the 4.5sec run took a lot of side stepping, etc. to make it work, I'd say an average everyday number will be a few tenths higher. What really matters is the quarter mile time and trap speed. RS4s have posted high 12s previously and the S5 (in this test) was a 13.1, so there is a difference in power there. Also, there are some tests that got the RS4 down to 4.2/4.3 sec to 60mph so 4.5sec seems possible considering the S5 is both lighter and has more torque than the RS4.

the S5 has FSi it has a very similar engine to the RS4 and is lighter, even though it doesnt rev as high I expect it to be almost as fast

its a huge difference, not just the revs. 420hp against 355?
I hope it's around 3600lbs, but we do not know yet. Everybody is estimating.

OK, I found the specs on the european websites. It looks like it's only 30Kg (66lbs) better than the S4, I don't see that as a huge difference. Yet the car is bigger/larger, with some more ponies at work. Maybe they also saved some transmission/quattro loss in the new models, allowing the car to get better performance.

Anyway, we will see with the next reviews. A 5.0s is not bad at all after all.

Well, I belive the U.S. spec B6/B7 S4's are around 3900 lbs. So, the S5 should weigh in at a scant 3834 lbs.

Yeah, I dunno about 4.5sec figure. But sub-5 sec 0-60's is dayam impressive enough! This car is simply badass. And the RS5 will be even badass-er.

I'm a little surprised of the 0-60 4.5 sec figure as well as the 1/4 mile.
It has the same trap speed as the stock 335i.
I would really like to see other tests tough.

The RS4 is a fast car, but on average it runs flat or low 13's. (Check dragtimes.com and Car&Driver)

So if 100 lbs Lighter = 0.1 sec quicker; And 100 HP more = 1 sec quicker

275 lbs less = .275 sec quicker in the QM
14 hp = .14 sec quicker

SO... 13.7 sec - .405 sec = 13.3 sec, so 13.1 is not too far off.

The new M3 is doing 0-60 in 4.4 sec and QM in 12.9 sec according to some mag.
S5 is down by 70 Hp and yet its not that far off.

Just imagine what RS5 can do.
