Re: Scratch/Bubbles in new tint...What to do???

the forum froze up...never loaded...lets try this again...

So I had a 20% tint done on my car, by a reputable place. 3M tint was used, and there's a lifetime guarantee on it. I got a good deal on it because I know the owner/the guy who did it. $200 for all but the front windshield.

There's a small scratch about an inch long in the front passenger window, and several small bubbles/dots that appear to be caused by dirt. it can be found on one of the rear windows as well (dirt bumps), but it isn't as bad as whats in the pics shown.

Is a tint job usually done looking perfect? I'd feel really bad going back to the guy for a small scratch, especially because i know him. it's just this tiny imperfection that bugs the hell out of me!

    Any suggestions?

That might still be moisture from the water they spray on it to position the tint. Give it a week or so, recheck and then decide if you need to take it back.

I've taken mine back 2 time to get the smallest things dealt with. After 3 days out in the sun, it should be cured fully. If you have a warranty, keep taking it back until it is done to your satisfaction. Don't settle.

Re: Scratch/Bubbles in new tint...What to do???

how long ago did you get it done? i know youre not supposed to roll the windows down for a day or two after getting the tint done. and when my friend recently had 20% put on his truck at first it wasnt perfect...after a few days it started to look much better. so give it some time and check again. and i dont know what audiloco was talkin about...$200 is a great deal. you can rarely find a good tint place that will use good tint and do all around the car for under $300.

Re: Scratch/Bubbles in new tint...What to do???

I had the tint done exactly one week ago. it's been hot as sh*t here in denver for the entire week, completely sunny. the tint should be dry by now, i definitely feel it's a permanent imperfection. i didn't roll my windows down until the end of the third day after it was done. it was totally dry by that point too.

damn, still not sure what to do....haha

200-300 for a tint job? No way! My friend did mine in a vaccuum booth 15% lumar for a c-note, best tinter in the area. He did my friends 2003 Suburban with like 9 windows for 185. You should of shopped around. Tint is never a set price, you can haggle.

Damn my gf paid $220 to get both of our cars tinted. It was $100 for her Jetta and $120 for my A4 and the guy who did it is the best around.

Re: Scratch/Bubbles in new tint...What to do???

lampyb - take it back to get it fixed if you feel like it was not prepped properly. i have a few spots in my tint where there is a little dust. It is hard here with it being so dusty this time of year for there to be NO dust or particles in the tint. I decided to just keep my tint the way it is since it is 99.9% perfect and no one other than me would see the imperfections anyways.

And the price for tint was average for denver. thats the price we pay for living a mile high.

people here get crazy tint deals in socal and florida that we just don't get here in colorado.

Where are you guys getting this tint done so cheap? What kind of film are you getting on? $200 is a pretty good deal for 3M and a warranty. But yea, i'd take that back to the guy and have him redo the trouble spots.

The above information is based on a population weighted zip code averages for the same basket of goods the differences it is about 6%. So yes it does cost more to live in Orlando, Florida than Denver, Colorado. But those numbers are also not tax adusted. Figure in the income tax in CO is 4.63% for state income tax where as Florida is 0%, Our sales taxes are about the same. Colorado depending on county is between 6.75-8.25%, Florida depending on country is 6%-7.5%. So in the end it is about the same to live in either place.

Depending on zip codes and neighborhoods each each city things will be different. If i didn't own my home i would be quite happy with $1200/month for rent. On the gas side of things i would be more than happy to spend $3.50 for 93 octane fuel. Specially since i spent $3.49 last night for 91oct (best we have due to altitude). 10 minutes later i found another station for $0.10 less for the same f'n fuel.

I did make a mistake in my post. I was also refering to price of tint (corrected in my post), not general living prices. We don't have alot of good tint places that have resonable prices. We have alot of hacks here. The price difference also doesn't include the required season pass to go skiing/snowboarding.

    It's all relative..
