I PREfer the forge b/c the APR is for 1.8T's. we don't have those massive outlets like the 1.8t's did.

    As above.

The APR is only for the 1.8T, not the 2.0T. APR should update their site.

If APR would come out with a diaphragm style DV for our cars I'd be all over it. In my opinion, the piston style valve will never be as responsive or feel as "crisp" as the stock one.

My FORGE Valve feels perfect. When I say perfect I mean crisp and respnsive like OEM.
Currently in the market for an Avant or Allroad.

Re: APR R1 vs Forge Diverter

I agree the APR site is misleading as the R1 is only for the 1.8 and it should be update. I'm waiting on an APR model for the 2.0 and will probably chip at the same time. Only real benefit I see over the two types is that the APR model doesn't require maintenance. I rarely have time to do any maintenance to my car and also lack a garage. No fun working on a car in a parking lot (kind of ghetto too).

Do you have a vag-com? Im interested in seeing if it holds boost better than the OEM DV. I guess it's a moot point because I'll be putting mine on July 4th weekend.

No Vag-com, just boost gauge. I know, its not precision but my ass dyno is trusting it. ....and g-d knows my ass is deadly precise.

Maybe they'e redesigned it for the 2.0T or made some adjustments. I've gone through all types of Forge valves in the past (006, 007, silver ones, black ones, friends valves, all colors in the spectrum of springs, shims, etc.) and according to my boost gauge they didn't work quite as well as the stock 710N (1.8T). The boost would start to creep down quicker and the response was never as good.

With time the piston will wear and air will always seep through. It's metal on metal. The diaphragm is like a balloon, no air is going to leak through that thing; unless it rips of course.

Now, is the difference I noticed enough to have a severe negative effect on performance? Probably not...but I noticed it, measured it and confirmed it so I'm just passing the info along.

I'll probably have to get myself a Forge valve if my stock one ever rips...but after 3k miles the stock one is still going strong.
