    Moaning sound from steering column

When I turn now I hear a moaning sound from steering column within side the car. Power steering fluid reads fine. I can hear it just past the steering wheel. Turning feels heavier too.

I get that sometimes, seems to happen most on a really hot day, and kinda goes away after the first couple turns, like turning out of a parking space or something. Is this a similar thing to what anyone else is talking about?

It isn't the power steering. That usually has a gritty, notchy, or grabby feel. The moaning is usually a tie rod end. It could also be a control arm or wheel bearing. Control arm problems are usually accompanied by a clunk or thunk when cornering or hitting bumps. Wheel bearings usually hum when turning one way or the other.

I had the same thing a week ago - I replaced my TRE's and it fixed the problem.

Yeah...I have the same issue. Although I had all my control arms and TREs done about six months ago (Febi/Bilstein)...and I can't believe they need to be done again.
I assume with the H&R Race springs I am stressing the joints more than usual. Oh well that's what happens when you are down low!

Re: Moaning sound from steering column

I know what moan/groan sounds like from power steering. 2 weeks ago i'm driving an Mk4 and it starts squeeling bad. I pull over and see a trail of power steering fluid behind me. Steering rack blew a seal under the dust boot. Got all the parts and attempting replacement this weekend/week.
