Anyone ever done this or had it done? I have some chrome wheels that I think I would want to paint black. Anyone know the cost if I had it done?

    Thanks folks!

I had mine powdercoated (better than paint) and was $70 a wheel.

"The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high-quality, and attractive finish. "

    Re: Painting Rims?

I painted mine myself. The whole project cost about $50.00. Powder coating is more durable than paint, however i chose to paint mine since i wanted to be able to fix and match any curb scratches or rock chips that i would encounter in the future myself. I had no experience in painting and the end result was very much to my liking and how i had envisioned it. If you decide to go this route, expect to spend the weekend on it. You're going to need sand paper(300-600 grit), de-greaser, primer, wheel spray paint, and clear coat (and jackstands if the wheels are on your car). The brand i used was Duplicolor, since many forums suggested it. If you're going to have it professionally done however, I would suggest powdercoating.

I had mine painted black and they turned out great !

be prepared to get touch up paint because when you mount the rims and throw on the lugs and tighten them down, the paint around the lugs will chip off

You can wet paint or powder coat. I am a sales director for a South Florida Powder Coating facility. Do I dear say I'm partial to powder? Ummm, yes!
By the way, you will have to pay someone to SANDBLAST the chrome of your wheels before either painting process is to be applied.
    Good luck!

It's a good thing you mentioned this. I had used my stock rims so all i had to do was scuff up the factory finish in order to get the primer and paint to adhere properly. I didn't know that chrome required so much more prep work.
