    FCC ID for Keyless Remotes

Will all 2002 B6 A4's have the same FCC code for the remote key fob? I'm hoping to buy a key fob on eBay, but want to make sure all 2002's use the "MYT8Z0837231" FCC ID.

    Thanks!

Re: FCC ID for Keyless Remotes

the number on my '02 is
    8zo 837 231 B/357733 45/01
    315MHz

i just got one from "fortunate-deal" (very fair) on ebay but i have good news and bad news..
-- good news = no problem programming the remote and unit looks brand new..
-- bad news = dealer could not match the immobilizer..
-- good news = "fortunate-deal" allowed me to keep the remote 1/2 and exchance the key 1/2.. i already had the key cut so he is going to swap the key blade onto the other immobilizer part..
-- ??? news = dont know if new immobilizer will work or not, just shipped a few days ago.. should know next wk..

    option..
-- my dealer charged me $60 to cut the key and tried to match the immobilizer (unsuccesssful)..
-- they sell just the key 1/2 (w/immobilizer) for ~$65-70, which includes cutting and matching..
-- the expensive part is the remote.. my dealer charges over $100 for the remote 1/2 alone..
-- so you can get the remote on ebay and buy a new key from the dealer for basically the same cost.. if you have them atempt to cut and match the ebay key and it doesnt work, you will have to spend an extra $65-70..

    good luck..

Re: FCC ID for Keyless Remotes

Like what fritzner said, once a key's immobilizer chip is adapted to a car, it can no longer be adapted to a different car. Most if not all ebay keys are used, and thus their chips are adapted already. But the remote half can be adapted no problem. This is what I did. I ended up using the ebay remote half and getting the chip half from the dealer.

Re: FCC ID for Keyless Remotes

I bought one on ebay a few months ago and the numbers matched, but the dealership couldn't get the remote to work properly. When I hooked up my vag-com and went to the measure blocks that read the keys it showed the numbers when I hit the button, but nothing happened with the locks. Luck for me the dealership warrantied the key for me and gave me a brand new one.

i knew that many of the ebay keys didnt work, but i didnt realize any used ones couldnt be matched.. wish i would have done what kpatz said..

well the ebay guy is still sending me a 2nd chip side to test..

if it doesnt work i was thinking about busting open the plastic key and put that chip in the ebay key.. both are farely useless, so there isnt much to lose..
