I bought my '97 A4 in VT shortly before moving to NYC in 1998. Zumback always gave me second class service because I didn't buy my car there. Back then, my car was new and I treated it like my baby. I often had issues with the Control Arms (typical for Manhattan) and they would just keep the car for days before fixing it. I also usually had to wait at least two weeks to get an appt to have any kind of service done, which really upset me. Several times they gave the car back without fixing the problem I reported and so I would actually go back unannounced and force the service manager to go for a ride with me so that he could see for himself. They also would never give me a loaner car, even when stranding me for days without a car. Good service is important, regardless of how busy the garage is. Set expectations properly, be respectful, and do your best. They failed every time.
After a few years of dealing with them, I found a mechanic in Queens called Adria Motors and they were fantastic. I could bring my car unannounced and they would take care of it that day or set appropriate expectations. I could call them anytime for a tow for whatever reason and they were always there and wouldn't gouge me. They don't do mods, but great service and repairs. They work exclusively on German Sports cars.
I will never take my S4 to Zumbach. Thanks for all the suggestions and I will check'em out.
