    straight pipes.

unless you have a k03 or k04. then you need slightly restricted exhaust to allow the turbo to build up back pressure.

    Re: Exhaust HP gains??

The Thermal Race and AWE (which are about the same thing) are likely the best bets. But remember gains come with volume ! Then add a test pipe and you will be about as good off as you can get.

My Milltek exhaust game me +5whp and +5wtq on an otherwise stock car. Yes, I dyno'd it before and after.

    Re: Exhaust HP gains??

yeah the average is about 10-15 chp and 2-5 whp depending on your setup.
Just make sure you get the downpipe changed as well, otherwise it will be money wasted for the sole purpose of SOUND.

2-5whp is not bad for a droning sound at highway speeds that will drive you bananas :)

So are you guys saying that basically the test pipe allows for the gains, and not really the sistem?? Good input from all, Thanks

    Re: Exhaust HP gains??

Frankly, I don't think you want to go too loud with too much drone. Can't help but notice that you have big heavy wheels. No doubt for style not speed. You should go with APR, a loud open exhaust would clash with your style car. You'd still get around the same gains.

    Re: Exhaust HP gains??

I heard NS systems with test pipe makes 15 to 20 hp.... dont know if that true but im pretty sure it has to make more than 2 to 5 doesnt sound right that you spend 1000 bucks for a system and another 100 for the TP and only get a whopping 2 to 5 if so that lame!!!!!!!

    Re: Exhaust HP gains??

my thermal street made 8 whp/20 lb-ft of torque PEAK on the dyno (running race gas)....the "under the curve" gain was quite a bit more impressive as far as sustaining both through the rev band.

    Re: Exhaust HP gains??

I wish I could give you numbers, but I will have to rely on butt dyno.
    I have tried Cat/Neuspeed, TP/Neuspeed, TP/stock exhaust.
I felt there was an improvement from Neusped\cat to Neuspeed/TP. Because of noise, I then tried TP/stock exhaust. With that set up, I felt I was back to stage 1 k03. It was very quiet, but the car wasn't going anywhere fast. I felt I lost the power and the torque of my K04 set up. I'm back to TP/Neuspeed but I installed another resonator on the downpipe. It is still loud but I can live with it now.

    Re: Exhaust HP gains??

You said noticeable... so I say no system on the market.

If you can tell that you got a 10 whp increase on a 3500 lb car, you're better than me.

You may hear it more, but you won't really notice it more (well, maybe just a little bit).

    Re: Exhaust HP gains??

There all about the same as long as its a full system with DP, i noticed most of the difference in cutting the turbo lag, if i dropped the clutch to earlier, after getting exhaust i was able to come back in rpm range to where the boost comes back on more quickly. All the systems are good i.e. APR, Milltek, AWE, and Neuspeed. Its mostly just going with what tone you like and look. Personally i have neuspeed, i love it, its one of the louder exhaust of the bunch, go with APR if you want a less noisey system.

I dynoed my car before and after installing a test pipe, and reported NO max hp or max tq gain (although there was some gain in the >5500rpm range)

I can't imagine 0 Gains through the RPM range. Look at that tiny tubing! Not to mention the cat choking the turbo!

i was thinking the same thing if your spending a grand for a NS exhaust and another 100 for test pipe i would hope to at least get 10 to 15 or more out of this system! if not

Maybe not 0, but 5-10hp for the full exhaust/TP sounds more likely than 15-25hp you can get on other cars.

Add to that that CAI air filter gives you another certified 0hp gain and you have one stubborn car

i have the evoms cai on my car i think it helps when your moving on the highway but when your just going street to street i think it just sucks in all that hot ass air. also NS needs to stop claiming the exhaust will put out 15 to 25 hp i called them yesterday and that what they claimed. i just bought one.....

Here is a dyno graph of a 2.0T chipped, chipped w/catback, chipped with TP & catback.
I know... it's a 2.0T, but the exhaust should give some gains on a 1.8T too.
