i was thinking bout buying a cone airfilter intake system. but i was wondering what one is the best and how hard would it be to install? since the stock air filter is the square box. if anyone can help me out mayb even tell me how to install it i would greatly appreciate it. also is it true that a cone system creates more sound to the engine?

    Re: cone air filter

You need to undo the big line going to the airbox in the front, as well as undo the cables going to the MAF and the ICM (top of airbox). There will also be some stuff you need to unscrew on the heatshield on the side- just work carefully and it's very straightforward. Once everything comes out, you just remove the MAF from the stock airbox, bolt it to the tubo inlet, then bolt a filter on top of it.

this mod is super easy get on the 'Tex under b5 diy. its like a 15 min mod all you have to do rip out the air box and attach the cone fileter directly to the MAF

That is what the "search" button is for. A MAF is a mas airflow sensor, located in your airbox. It meters the air that is going into the turbo.

I am pretty sure there is a writeup on the installation of a Diverter Valve. Just search

    Re: cone air filter

dont do a cone filter, even if you do a true heatshield, some people will say that works fine, but it doesnt. you'll notice inside the stock airbox there is a velocity stack, that is necessary to get the correct readings. just dont do it.

...and like rob said, its good to 300hp, its not worht the "ssssssssSSSSSSS PPSSSHHHH!!" if you know its there, thats all that matters!

    Re: cone air filter

^^ nah you dont need all that shit for the intake. all you need is a cone filter ($35) and aluminum sheets for the sheild and an aluminum strip that runs from the fender to heat sheild supporting it and holds the ICM

just make sure you get a filter that has a coupler diameter equal to that of the mass air flow sensor. the cone filter will bolt directly up to the MAF with a clamp. just search around for pictures. look up user name offroader1006 and he has a pretty nice setup. look at his pics

    found one of offroader's

forge is a good DV, but it can be found for $125 w/ the spring kit, I will post where I got mine when I get out of work, I need to look at the receipt. as for the intake, do it if you really want to, but I would recommend against it

Don't bother with that. Get a $50 K&N filter (or $14 ebay filter, your choice) and a $20 U-bend off ebay. I grabbed another 90 degree bend and 3 2.5" couplers since I plan on having the filter below the right headlight, where it gets air coming in from the front.

    Re: cone air filter

Don't worry about the wires- it's all self explanatory once you actually get working on it. Word to the wise- doing ANY sort of work, REMOVE THE GROUND CABLE FROM THE BATTERY. Please, learn from those who have made mistakes in the past! One small mistake cost me $200 (replacing ICM and oil return line, plus who knows what else).

ICM = ignition control module- it sits on top of your airbox. You can just leave it secured somewhere when you upgrade- it's only on top of the airbox to keep it cool.

    Re: cone air filter

its not hard at all really.... we arent joking! just take out the airbox (on my 30v 2.8 i didnt even have to remove the wires i just pushed them aside) and then bolt your air filter to the maf housing. if you spend $150 on that K&N kit you are rediculous. i spent a total of about $50 to do mine custom and that includes everything from that kit... i like the sound of mine but like everyone says, the stock air box is just as good or better. so whatever its your choice.

Well, it's a start. You'll get that cool whoosh noise. Also, changing the DV isn't going to improove your performance until you chip your car. The effects of 5-7psi on a aftermarket DV isn't as impressive compared to 17-25 psi of boost. The DV will need to react quicker when applying the throttle off and on.
