Talking Paint the hood, or show the carbon fiber!?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just picked up this Nogaro Blue A4 from ThreeSixT a couple weeks ago, and thought I'd share a few pictures. I knew this color would be unique, but I have to say it really jumps out at you when you see it in person. Btw, ThreeSixT was great to deal with. I flew down to San Diego from Seattle to pick up this car, with a little hesitation of course buying sight unseen, but I'm happy to say I have no regrets!

Anyhow, I was looking for some opinions on the carbon fiber hood. My original plan before even seeing the car was to have it painted, but once I saw it in person, and could see the carbon fiber weave pattern, I had a complete reversal of opinion. It is different, and pictures really don't do it justice. I was kinda surprised at how many people liked it. However I still think that the all blue hood might look slightly better overall.

Well, I'm having a tough time deciding whether to keep it as is, or revert back to how ThreeSixT had it before, with the all blue hood, Kamei grill with outer section in blue, and the eye lids. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Keep as is???

Me personally I like the painted hood instead of it showing carbon fiber. the painted hood gives it a cleaner look...But keep the rings on the front grille. Car looks great I love the nogaro....... damn

Congrats on the purchase. A woman in my neighborhood has a nogaro A4, that color definitely looks good under the sun.

Keep it as is, might as well have something to show for having a CF hood.

A-ha!! So you bought it! I parked next to you the other day at Jersey Mike's Subs. The car looks awesome in person!

And keep the hood the way it is now... and just say "no" to eyelids.

Re: Paint the hood, or show the carbon fiber!?

Thanks for all the compliments/suggestions I'm actually surprised the vast majority voted to keep it as is, I thought it would be the other way around haha. Part of me was leaning towards painting it, but I keep bouncing back and forth. I guess I'll leave it for now. I have to admit the first thing people say when they see the car is "Whoa dude, is that a carbon fiber hood!"

I think my #1 choice would be to have a blue painted hood, but with a custom carbon fiber roof like the M6 and new M3, mmm. I can only imagine how much it would cost to have that done though

Capt. Obvious, haha..so that was you in the red Audi! I wondered if it was someone from AZ. Btw, love the wheels, gave your car a really aggressive stance. And that was one of the few times I eat at Jersey Mike's, great subs but just too far from work, and usually too busy like it was that day haha.

Re: Paint the hood, or show the carbon fiber!?

Nogaro blue is such a great color! And it goes so well with black. I would leave the hood as is. The only suggestion I can make is to reiterate Tgr Clw's suggestion to consider black e-codes. It would tie in nicely with the black on the hood.

    I am sooo jealous.

If you're taking the car to the track I can see it making a difference but the average joe Audi driver that has a carbon hood will not notice the difference on your daily streets.

Keep as is. take off eye lids. I like the front grill but I hate the little hole for the hood release, but for the sake of flow and continuity, leave the no ring grille on. Clean car otherwise..

Re: Paint the hood, or show the carbon fiber!?

You guys have convinced me against the eye lids, I won't do it haha. The car didn't come with them anyway, the picture I show with them is an old one.

I'm having mixed feeling about the new grill I bought. It originally came with the badgeless Kamei grill, and when I first saw the car I felt it was missing something in the front (ie. the rings). So I picked up an oem blackout grill with the rings, however I somehow agree this grill just doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the front end. I think I'll go back to the badgeless Kamei grill and either add the rings to that, or try something like this (a quick photoshop I did of a member's car):

Photoshop of Kamei grill with Hood Rings

Oh, I'm contemplating painting the wheels flat/satin black also. After seeing this picture on here of this S4 with black DTM's, I'm thoroughly confused I think the silver RS4s look great, but I've always wanted to try black wheels for that mean menacing look. But if I did the black wheels I would definatley pick up a BBK to compliment the look. Instead of red Brembos though, maybe silver Alcons?

S4 Avant w/ Black DTMs and Red Brembos

My car photoshopped w/ Black DTMs and Silver BBK

Btw, yes these cars are both Nogaro blue in case anyone was wondering. The color really changes depending on the lighting.

Re: Paint the hood, or show the carbon fiber!?

Oh, btw for those wondering about the Nogaro blue, going by what the previous owner told me, he had to obviously special ordered this color, and from what he understood this color was no longer available even for special order after 2002/2003. Not sure if they decided to reserve this color only for the S4, which I imagine to be the case.

But from what I can tell, Audi won't even let someone special order this color for the B7 S4 or RS4. It seems they've done away with this color as of now. I guess there goes my hopes of ever getting a B7 RS4 in Nogaro
