    Sportec Wheels....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Im probably getting sportec wheels in the near future... But during my search, I know there are sporttechnic wheels and sportec wheels... Some say sportec is better and some don't... What is the difference between these two wheels. I like the ones with the lip but I can get the other set for $2000 in the near future. I have no clue which route to go.. Help me out here

Which ones are which, and which are stronger and which are better?

    Re: Sportec Wheels....

I prefer the second one, with the lip. No clue which is stronger or what not, but isn't Sportechnic made in Japan vs. Sportec made in Switzerland?

    Re: Sportec Wheels....

I dont know. I looked at both pics, and the second one looks kinda like an 18" wheel instead of 19...

I have no clue though, someone will know...

Nooo, the second one is definitely not an 18" look at the tire profile! It's probably even a 20"!

    Re: Sportec Wheels....

those two pictures are both SPORTEC rims...the top is the normal style the bottom is the 20" forged rim with the lip.
Sport Technic as far as I know is similar in style, but with a 3 piece look with the rivets, lip, and the whole shabang. Look up "Avanteix"....he has the sport technic rims on his avant.

hope that helps....and as far as strength goes, I don't think you can go wrong with either set.

    Re: Sportec Wheels....

I guess scratch that idea^^ I will probably get the 19" without lip... Even though the lip is nice. These wheels are cool.

Do you guys know If I can have them refinished to the M3 wheel finish? Chrome fronts, and black or dark Grey sides of the spokes...

I know I can get them in bi-color but I'm wondering If I can just get them re-finished because I'm getting the ones on the yellow S4^^ for cheap.

    Re: Sportec Wheels....

The older sets (the first pic) were known to be super soft and bend real easily. ALthough in my opinion they look way better than the Sportechnic ones they are not as strong as them..

i dont know if i have the wheels you are talking about... but mine have the RAYS (maker of volks) stamp on the back... pretty heavy maybe about 24~26 lbs from my judgement.

running eibach coilovers (lowest setting) with 1 person in the back... i need to raise it about 1 inch

i think the first are about 28 lbs. and come in 18 and 19" and are cast. the second are forged and only in 20" and are about 26lbs. the later Rays made one are about 26lbs. - as pictured above. no rubbing on 20" sportecs from what has been posted- unless you ae slammed.

From the searching I have done... theres a lot of rubbing with the front wheels in 20"

Can somebody with a sedan clear this up for me?

Wagons are good with 20's but sedans have some issues...

god damnit!!! i wasnt aware of all these knock off companies and the subtle diferences between the real sportecs and the others....

guess what... I just realized i have sportec designs...

damnit. theyre exactly the same as the sportecs but the center cap says sportec design.

i would of prefered to support the original sportec company.

i believe the sportec designs (made by rays) is directly related to sportec (switzerland). i dont exactly know if they broke off ties completely though.

They are all pretty overpriced for the quality and weight but they do look great. Are the Mono 10 forged wheels not exactly the same as the Neuspeed RS10 which comes in 19" and weighs a whole lot less?

I happen to be a fan of the original sportects... a little soft but I just had mine refininshed and the bends removed, all 4 for less than $600....

    Re: Sportec Wheels....

I have both the Sportec and the Sportechnic. Both are the 20" version the Sportec are 20x9 offset 35 the Sportechnic are 20x8.5 offset 38 and 20x9.5 offset 43. The Sportec are forged one piece and are very strong. The Sportechnic are Forged centers but the lips are just aluminum and are extremely soft. They are also clear anodized so when you get them straightened you have to polish them every time you wash your car. The tires I would recommend are 235/30/20 on the Sportec for absolutely no rubbing. If you go with 245/30/20 then you will get rubbing in the front and very little in the rear. If you have not lowered your car much or have a very firm suspension then you may not rub at all. I have a Oettinger suspension and it is on the soft side so I did get rubbing with the 245's front and rear, but very little only on big dips in the road or hard fast turns. For the Sportechnic if you want no rubbing you can use 235/30/20 in the front and 245/30/20 in the rear. I have since put 245/30/20 in the front as to minimize bending my lips. Helps a little but not much, and rubs very slightly.

They both look very nice but the Sportechnic has a very shiny lip so they do stand out more. And I have a staggered setup on the Sportechnic. The Sportechnic's do visually fit better as both front and rear seem flush with the fender. The Sportec stick out a little because of the lip design is much thicker and that is why they are much stronger.
