So, i was wondering, how awesome is the solar sunroof! Is it pretty badass?!

My '01 S8 is black on black. With the solar sunroof the car is comfortable to get into, even on warm sunny days.

Besides, it's kinda cool to have your car doing things for you even when you're not there...

Its ok... I had it on my A6 and S6 and it does its job. You do lose the ablility to open just the slider though (I never did that anyway). In all, I'd do it again. Its an expensive upgrade, but great if you have a black car, or little ones and live in a hot area.

what does it do? i'm guessing it auto climates the car even when it is turned off?

I've got it on my A6 and it's great in the summers, it's not like your going to get into a AC cooled car but it keeps the air moving so it's not like a sauna in the car.

all it does is recirculate fresh air in the cabin.....everyone always asks me if it powers the radio or help use less power, nope it doesn't. It's really sort of a waste.

They do offer it in the UK on the 2008 A4! I'm not sure what year your A4 is.

I'm looking into buying an 2008 A4 Avant soon and I'd love to have the solar sunroof on my car. It gets pretty damn hot here in so cal and to have the solar sunroof circulating air and keeping the car cool would be great!

I know this is the A8 forum, but I wonder if anyone has managed to special order their A4 with this option? Or if anyone has bought the parts and installed it themselves on the A4?? I'm curious to know what it takes to get it done.

My 03' A6 has it...I'm assuming it started in 02 cuz I don't recall seeing it on any 02's but I could be wrong

this has been avalible for a while (aprox. 98) it is however a sold order option only. which means you must order the car with it, the dealer cannot order this for a stock car. there are a few other stipulations to get it also.

yes all it does is operate the blower motor, which is very effictive is hot climates.

May I ask where you got this information from? If Euro and US spec A4s are built on the SAME assembly line, then this MAY be true, but I don't think they are, but I could be mistaken.

Our car was a sold order, we custom ordered our car, did all the credit checks, left a deposit, etc. I took every avenue I could to add this to our car because I really wanted this option, but our dealership had zero ability to add this to our car. It wasn't even listed as an available option. he even showed us the order form they use and it wasn't listed on there anywhere. In the US, the solar sunroof is exclusive to certain S (and maybe RS) models only. In Europe it's a different story. In europe it's an option you can configure when you custom order your car starting with the base model Avant. I even tried it on the UK Audi website when we picked up our B7 and sure enough the option was there.

EDIT: DOH! forgot that this thread is in the A8 section, all of my subscriptions typically come from the B7 A4 and Avant's Only Forums so I got confused. Sorry guys. Inserting foot in mouth.
