What does Stage 1/2/3 mean?

Hi,

I've never been much of a modder or racer, so please forgive my ignorance on this subject. What does a person mean when they specify their modded ride as Stage 1, 2, or 3? I did some Google searching and found a pretty good definition, but it was for Harleys . Thanks for edumucating a noob.

Every tuner have a different idea of stages.... there is no universal code for that.... usualy it means stage 1 would be a chip... stage 2 would probably couple a chip with an exhaust system and stage 3 would most likely be some sort of turbo upgrade....

I am not for certain on this but it will be close:

Stage 1 - Chip
Stage 1+ - Chip + larger Injectors
stage 2 - Usually turbo upgrade (KO4 + exhaust, Front Mount Intercooler blah blah)
Stage 3 - Big turbo (GTRS etc.)

Some of the racers will answer your question better but that is a start.

Stg 1 : Chip
Stg 2 : Chip + Exhaust
Stg 2+ : Chip + exhaust + downpipes
Stg 3 - : " + big turbos w/o fueling
Stg 3: " big turbo kit, fueling and the works.


Im interested to know what stage 3 is for an A4 (b6).

stages refer to the number of things upgraded. like a stage one is just a turbo, stage 2 is when you upgrade the BOV/DV, intake piping, some silicone couplings, exhaust. stage 3 is when u go into more parts, like injectors, ecu, intercooler, turbo upgrade.

Stage 2 - Chip + Fuel Injectors + Exhaust
Stage 3 - Chip + Fuel Injectors + Exhaust + Big Turbo

That is the basics. All tuners call there packages something different as well.
