Which 2.0T FSI Engine do you have ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What is your 2.0T FSI engine code ?

You can locate your engine code on a sticker which is affixed to your timing belt cover. It is also included on your vehicle data plates / vehicle data sticker inside your service manual.

Ive been doing some research on this and have found that the 2.0T FSI engine comes in 7 varients.

I assume that most peoples engine code will be BPG but wanted to run a poll to see if this indeed was the case.

I have BWE which seems to have a rare Engine / ECU combination. This is why APR have to develop new software for my ECU.

    Some differences in the engines:
    - BWE 280Nm at 1800rpm / compression ratio of 10.3
    - BPG 280Nm at 2000rpm / compression ratio of 10.5
    - BUL (DTM engine) has an output of 162KW and the same ratio as the BWE.

Can someone explain what the benefits of having a 10.3 compression ratio engine to a 10.5 ? As my engine and the DTM engine share the same compression ratio.

FWIW, the Bentley manual for the A4 that's put out/approved by AoA only includes information the the BPG 2.0T engine.

One thing to note is that the 2.0FSI in the VW GTI and the A3 list at slightly different spec's as well. Those engines indicate a lower compression than the A4 2.0FSI.

Higher compression in the same engine can help give better lower rpm torque, but may have to give up some top end rpm and perhaps slightly lower redline, IF the given turbo pressures are the same.

Interestingly, your info shows lower compression with same torque output at at LOWER rpm, and that's counter to higher compression.
However, as I said, only given the same turbo pressures.
It's possible that peak psi at a given rpm is different in the higher vs. lower compression engine.
Also, that higher compression is achieved with either different pistons that have a different shape, or a tighter space between the piston dome and block, which can be achieved with simply thinner gasket material.

Have you checked to see if there is a piston part number difference between the engine variants with higher vs. lower compression?
Also, check the gasket part numbers as well, and perhaps the cylinder heads, and maybe the valves.

    Interesting info. though, thanks.
I was aware of the 2 variants but not 7.

I will look into it and see what parts if any differ between the engines. Im sure the BUL (DTM) engine would have different internals.

The engine code for the Jetta/GTI/Passat/A3 is BPY (which isn't listed above). It might also be useful for people who vote or have voted to indicate what country they're in.

Re: Which 2.0T FSI Engine do you have ?

One other possible reason for the different compression ratios is that the engines may be country specific and depending on the country, they could have different fuel/octane levels. I know you're in Australia and run 98-100 RON, so maybe that is why?

    Oh, and I have BPG.

The list only contains 2.0T FSI engines that are used in the B7 A4. So in other words longitude engines. I would hate to see how many transverse varients there are.

I have the BUL code in my special edition.

And yes the DTM has stronger engine internals, although i'm not sure which parts.

    That's interesting about the A3/GTI.
Many US publications write that the 2.0 in the GTI/A3 are the same and those cars/engines list a 10.3:1 compression, not the 10.5:1 as is used in the A4 2.0FSI.
I did find a C&D blurb claiming the GTI has 10.5:1 and even C&D posts 10.3:1 as well.

Also, the 2.0 in the A4 is listed as 207lb ft. of torque at 1800-5000rpm, nice smooth torque curve.

Where does the chart posted in this thread come from?

    A combination of sources

The A4 2.0T FSI engine from Ebahn - Bentley Publishing and Erwin - Audi

The Gti 2.0T FSI engine from VWoA *Note the compression 10.5:1

What was the purpose of this thread? All US cars came with BPG/BWT, VW's with BPY. I'm not sure on allocation within other countries, but I mean its basically the same engine, marginally lower compression aside.

Other way around. Auto crank won't work in a manual/cvt car, but a manual/cvt crank will work with Tip cars. Yes I realize this is a necro bump, shut up.

The real bummer coming out of this thread is how we never got any of the good 2.0t engines over here except in the S3 and Golf R. Super lame.

A friend just got a 2011 TTS with the same engine as in S3 and Golf R I believe. What are some of the differences between ours and theirs besides power obviously? Are there operational differences such as timing, cam followers, connectors, etc?

Forgot about the TT-S, but yea it’s got the same engine.

They have a k04, forged internals, and revised cams. A few other things but that’s it for the engine.
