What country are we talking about?

It used to be normal for cars in France to have yellow headlights and if you didn't tint yours before going on holiday in France lots of French drivers would flash you. Fortunately that's no longer the case, headlights are white in France too now.

Check your local laws as they can vary vastly from state to state, however, yellow is not usually 'illegal' but most of the time yellow is reserved for fogs. Blue is worse (in the eyes for law enforcement) than yellow because blue is reserved for emergency vehicles.

yellow in most states is actually legal. NJ specificallys states that yellow is an approved color for the reasons listed above with french law.

At one point France was trying to get every country in europe to have their own color. Their color was selective yellow.

But most states adapted it because "white" headlights as we knew them were actually well into the yellow spectrum.

Are the people saying its illegal in cali saying it because the law states white or not yellow or because a cop who "thought" he knows the law decided they were not legal that day.

I have yet to be stopped and have been running them for a year headlights and fogs in my A3.. I actually failed inspection on my first jetta for having yellow city light bulbs which were actually off at the time.. I went home took them out just as to not cause too much of a problem and then handed the inspector a copy of the nj state law that said they were legal.

i saw a xB today in woodridge, NJ that had yellow headlights and fog lamps. Along with yellow rims. One of the ugliest vehicles i have ever scene. But non the less, they were yeller!

I have yellow fog lights on my car. Every time I have it on while driving on highway, them truckers would try to ram me off the road...

in Cali it is legal... no specific specs on headlight colors.. just turn indicators must be orange or red.. and brakes must be red... other than that your fine. if u want to look it up urslef on exactly what u can or cant do to your vehicle... read the California Vehicle Code book... its what the cops use when they give u citations and it will give you the exact specs on everything u can have on ur car.

ps. good luck finding the section.... vehicle code index is very scattered and can somtimes be hard to use.
