    Correct Tire Pressure for 235/35/R19´s...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey !

I´m wondering what would be the correct tire pressure for 235/35/R19´s... I´ve read about it and some say 36-38 PSI others say 40-42... what should I do ?? we have L O T S of potholes here in Lisbon and the car WILL have to go over many of them (even though slowly, of course), so, what would be the overall best pressure for the tires ? I drive mostly alone...

I run mine at 40psi. I wouldn't run anything less if you have potholes to deal with.

Re: Correct Tire Pressure for 235/35/R19´s...

There is no "correct" tire pressure. At a lower pressure of 35 the ride is going to be more smooth and soft. At 40 your going to have better protection for your wheels. So you just have to find a balance of the two that best suites your needs.

38-41 psi would be fine if you have potholes to deal with. The lower = more comfort but as actlsub9 stated the higher psi will give the wheel more protection.

okay, I´m gonna try doing 41 front and 38 rear ? would this be good ? or should I do the same pressure all around ?

Re: Correct Tire Pressure for 235/35/R19´s...

Sandman, I do not recommend 41 psi in your tires unless you are putting in nitrogen.

There is no correct tire pressure as stated above.

The most important thing to do is check what the maximum tire pressure is for your particular tire. If you want to put in air, take the max psi rating and back it down by about 6 psi (if you're using air). For nitrogen, you can back it down by about 3-5 psi.

Tires fail due to under or over inflation (among other reasons). If you set it too high, the ride is going to be stiff and you'll risk blowing out the tires on hard hits. Too low, and the tires will be soft, less responsive, and may overheat.

Again, tire pressure is dependent on several different factors:

    1. Max psi rating
    2. How stiff or soft you want the ride
    3. Road conditions
    4. Load
    5. Tire wear

So, I guess the short response would be that 36-38 psi is safe for most tires.

I run 40 all the way around. I think MC Hammered once said, take the max tire pressure I think in my Falkens its like 51 or 50 and subtract 10 psi from there. Butler Tire here in Atlanta recommends 35 for my 19s if you want a more comfortable ride. If you want somewhere in between I say 38, but also depends on how aggressively you drive.

I always run 5 psi lower that the max psi figure listed on the tires. Different makers have different max psi's. Examply: Max 45, i run 40 psi. Safest way around.

Re: Correct Tire Pressure for 235/35/R19´s...

nitrogen? you get that free with air :)

    lol.

    load rating of tires
weight of car (with junk in it, including bodies)
do you want it to wear on inside or outside of tires(knowing the front end takes more weight regardless)
do you want to bend the rims and ride comfortably, or take harsher ride and less chances?

    consensus was something like 32-34 for 16's, 36-37 for 17's, 38-40 for 18's...

The load rating of the tires compared to the weight of the car and the weight distribution seem to be the magical #'s to figure out.

A4's are nose heavy so you can easily wear the centers (overinflation) of the rears out while wearing out the outers (underinflation) of the fronts.

Good advice from da man on this problem: every 5K when you do the oil, have them rotate the tires. it takes like 10 minutes tops to do a simple front to bad (directional tires) your local vag shop might charge you $15 extra.

Re: Correct Tire Pressure for 235/35/R19´s...

I am ashamed to admit that it has been a few months since i have last checked my tire pressure. Actually, I usually have America's Tire Co. check it. Well, I am not trusting them anymore. The fronts were at 25 and the rear at 30. I adjusted them all to 40psi. Took the car for a little drive, and was AMAZED at the difference!!!

also pressure will increase with heat, if you are too high (>40) psi will most likely increase after drive

Re: Correct Tire Pressure for 235/35/R19´s...

does tire pressure affect road hazard? if the tire is super inflated say to 40psi(cold) would it be more sensitive to crap in the road, say a rock?

i only rock 40psi because the roads are rough in the city and no wheel is immune to nasty bumps and potholes.

i am going to go to 5 wheel rotation since i blew out one tire (1K miles) and got a new full size spare (0k miles) every 5K to see if it extends the life.

but we all know that most high performance summer tires are good for like 20K.
we all drive hard and adding suspension mods like sway bars (rs4 rear throws alot more stress on the front tires) it must have some synergy with the tire pressure.

more weight up front, more traction (rs4 rear sway), driving habit, RATING OF TIRE.

also wouldn't offset and stagger have some effect?
