    Auto or Manual?

Have you changed the wheels / tires to anything besides the original size? The only time i've heard of this code is when someone has changed their tires and the ecu gets confused...

    (From a Jag Forum)

"Have you changed the wheels/tyres to any other than original size? The gearbox sends the gearratio to the ems, which calculates it's own from engine speed and vehicle speed. If this is within a certain range, the ems assumes correct gear ratios. By changing the wheel diameter, this error code can flag up.

Another possibility is torque convertor slip, is the box low on oil?"

Through searching around google, i've been seeing this code in mercedes in regards to a faulty wiring harness as well, though that may be a mercedes problem.

This is a pdf of that code from a mercedes "vag" readout. Note the probable reasons for the code.

Re: P0730 - Gear Ratio Monitoring: Incorrect Gear Ratio

I have an auto. Heres what happened. I was moving my car onto the lawn, which is covered in snow so I could vaccum it out. Our lawn is raised up about 3 feet or so from the driveway, I came up at an angle so I wouldnt hit bottom. I got stuck and turned ESP off, proceeded to "floor it" to really get the EDL working and then I noticed that my transmission went into limp mode. the PRND432 was lit up backwards. I shut the car off and turned it back on took it for a ride, and things seemed to be ok.

I could believe that the wiring is fucked up because my tranny and engine were removed from the car when I had my turbos replaced, 800 miles ago.

I have 16 inch wheels with tires that should come out to match the same as stock. I got them from Tire Rack which they said were "Audi reccomended".... BUT sometimes when I take off from a start the ESP light will flicker even when I am on dry tar, and definately no wheel slipage.

Nope, just me :) Did you clear the code? And if so, has it come back?

Dealer cleared it. My car was in today for combi valves and a solenoid per their screw up. So I brought up this code. I just suggested it might be due to them taking the tranny out when they did the turbos. They say they didnt find anything and the car runs OK I guess. I still dont think it runs smooth. Somethings not right but what can you do?

oh well. I was thinking of trading in a year for a LGT. I need something new, AWD with a warranty, and something that wont break the bank.

seriously tho, turning off the ESP and 'flooring it' ? That's probably the worst thing you could've done. EDL can transfer some power, but it's not anything close to true locking 4wd, and it's not there to get your car unstuck
