Pros and Cons - A4 2.0T

Any dislikes about your 2006 A4 2.0T?

I'm thinking of getting one. Currenly, I have an 01 BMW 330ci.

Mine is a '06 quattro 2.0T auto/tip trans. The only con (and I really hate it) is the shift lag. Takes too damn long to shift between gears, other than that, it's great

The car is solid and well constructed, very smooth ride, economic, and handles great. Best bang for your buck in terms of luxury/options. Cons: Manual tranny has rough shifts sometimes. I've only had the car for a few months, it now has 2,700 miles and I'm happy with it. On another note, the car is not fast, I didnt list this as a con because I wasnt looking for a fast car when i bought it.

PRO: build very solid, and 2.0T ( easily to get more power Ie: APR Chip, test pipe, etc) HOT HOT Heated Seats. Turbo makes me happy. Comfort is on sporty yet great for daily driving. Quattro

Cons: I HATE THE CENTER PULL UP STORAGE COMPARTMENT when I pull the handbrake up. (Its even annoying when I drive a Stick, so I HAVE to pull up the E-brake, Audi Navigation does not do touch screen. Price depreciates a bit fast

I had a bmw before my A4 2.0 6mt FWD.

Cons
1. light steering. Really light. Disabling servotronic helped a lot.
2. Torque steer. Well....it's FWD, so I can't help it.
3. I don't think it's solid as bmw...
4. wheel gap is just way too much = 4 X 4
5. Leans a lot.
6. Steering stereo control is stupid. You can't change the mode or change pre-set stations.
7. Shifter is not smooth. Gear changes aren't smooth either.
8. impossible to heel/toe. Magazines agree.
9. a lot less parts/mods available than bmw

Pros
1. More power than 323ci...(what doesn't....)
2. Gas mileage. I am spending almost half what I was spending.
3. Smoother/quieter on highway.
4. lower price
5. not as common. you will rarely see another A4.
6. People think it's just as "expensive" as bmws.
7. better looking interior than new bmws.
8. Sounds sporty when reved high. nice exhaust tone stock.
9. easy extra 30-45 horsepower with a chip


Most of the forum members have these mods:chip, snub, suspension. They help a lot!

I do like my A4 over all and I like trying out different cars. Sorry, guys. I do feel that Audi is just a step(very small...) below BMWs.....

In California the 'not as common' definitely doesn't apply. I counted six - not including my own - on my 16 mile drive home tonight.

I love my A4. Mine's a 3.2, but I've had two 2.0T loaners (no problems, just getting stuff handled at the dealer right after the purchase). Very solid, fun to drive, and well-appointed. I didn't look closely at the 3-series, so the same very well might apply to the other Bavarian. Good luck with your decision...

bad---heavy car(with an suspension upgrade u'll be fine), under power (with a tp and chip u'll be fine too), civic looking tailight...

if you gonna get the A4, remember to get the quattro (i regret i didn't), xenon headlights (i didn't neither), and if u have the extra cash, go for the S-line (which i didn't have)

Nor does it apply in NYC. I have 8 in my buildings parking garage alone! And since i got my A4. Ive noticed that thay are everywhere!

Cons: The ebraks hits against the armrest when you pull it up, heavy car, Sports Suspension not low enough, needs an option for sports seats.

Pros: Quattro works great and with a RS4 rear sway bar it feels like RWD with the grip of a AWD, Best bang for the buck when loaded up with options, great looking, more rare than BMW, bluetooth works flawlessly, great tuning potential.

I get small rattles from the dash when I hit bumps or the road is not smooth, annoying as hell. The stereo couldve been louder, that damn armrest is annoying when pulling the ebrake, cant use the armrest and both cup holders at the same time its one or the other, the seats shouldve been a bit wider, Shifting is not great, my friends honda has smoother shifting. I get crunches while going through gears sometimes. 06 models have NO MP3. Leg room in the back is not the best. WoW I sound so unhappy with this car. I only got 7K on it.

PROS: Looks nice. OH yea Quattro, makes me feel safer

Wait for the 08 EVO, looks sick, thats what I wanna go for next.

I drive a 2006 A4 Avant 2.0TQ.

It is, all things considered, the best car I have ever had.

Pro's:

Design, interior and exterior. This is an incredibly elegant and handsomely understated car. Even after more than one year, I always smile when I walk up to the car and get in. The quality of design and materials inside is unmatched amongst comparable cars today.

Driveability. The combination of the torquey 2.0T engine and the Tiptronic works really well for my needs. Sure, I would always like more power, but the power is delivered over a very broad torque curve. The tiptronic locks the torque converter quite early in the rev range, making the car feel a bit more like a stick shift.

Handling: The car feels like it is on rails when cruising and when turning. Even the stock suspension ha an amazing amount of grip,

Technology: The Bluetooth and NAV systems are awesome. I can browse through my cellphone phone book and dial using button on the steering wheel and the display in the dashboard. The NAV system is very intuitive and very clear and readable. It seems to always present the information I need, when I need it.

Gas mileage: It IS possible to achieve EPA numbers if you drive carefully. It s not hard to get 34 MPG highway in my car.

Cons:

Sound system: The stock (non-Bose) sound system just does not sound good. I am very disappointed that Audi sells such a bad sound system in a car that is otherwise very very good.

Seats: The standard seats do not offer enough lumbar or side bolstering.

Space: I am 6'2 and feel cramped in the car on long trips.

I've driven manual my whole life. I didnt mean rough as in releasing the clutch correctly.. I mean the actual shifter is not smooth in between gears as if something with the synchro's. (I think many can agree) On some rare occasion's its hard to put back into 1st gear after stopping at a light. It's just a minor detail anyway, something I would only expect from a true sports car that requires accurate shifts.

i'm going to have 2342342452x everyone in saying "teh armrest and ebrake are the worst features of this car"

but....as I had an e46 prior to this...the A4 blows it out of the water in terms of two things: quattro and mod-ability. the 2.0 four-banger is a great engine (reminds me of the e30 M3's s14). the car is torquey as balls which is a huge plus.

bottom line, it's an all around great daily driver (especially with 4 doors coming from the coupe) but comes bare bones from the factory....that's where the modding comes into play and BOY OH BOY, is it addictive!!!

Common? From Pasadena where I go to school... The city is FULL of Audis. Especially the A4s. In a day, I pass by at least 5-6 at a time going either directions. =P

Me: Wasn't an Audi fan until I drove in one. I love the smoothness, comfort, and interior.

Dislikes though, the E-Brake and center armrest bugs the crap out of me and... You can't store crap in the center compartment nor the passenger drawer.

Other than that, coming from someone who dislikes German cars before getting into the scene, I love my Audi A4. It's a nice and fun vehicle to drive. Even if it's not a 6 speed. I love the gas mileage as well.

A4 aint anything too extreme, they aint the best performance car, nor the most luxurious ones, nor the safest ones, but if you want something that has some parts of everything above, A4 is the choice for u.

in my town i see tons of audis every day (BMW and MB too for that matter)

i personally love my car...i love the way it handles quattro=feels like its on rails even on different surfaces, i feel safe, power is there when you need it, interior is best in class by far, exterior IMO as well

cons: stupid handbrake thing, gearbox can be a little clicky at times, soundsystem could be better, wish it could play mp3's

but overall a real great driving car..ive driven my friends MB's and BMW's
BMW most road feel ehhhhh interiors
MB's no road feel nice interiors
AUDI right in between as far as road feel and interiors blow away the competition

I currently have 3 cars (2001 Honda CRV, 2005 Scion XB and 2001 BMW 330ci).

My goal: To get rid of two cars, most likely the CRV and BMW and replace it with a Family/Business car.

Yes, I have test drove the 2006 2.0T (Automatic). The first thing I noticed that I did not like was the Armest/ebrake problem. Other than that I was very impressed on how the car drove. The Audi did way better than the 2007 BMW 325i and the Audi had more room. Here are the reasons why I am looking for another car:

1) I have a 1 year old
2) I want more safety features, ie. rear side air bags and curtain air bags
3) Rear leg room (which the BMW, IS250/350 did not have)
4) Gas mileage (at least in the 20's for city)
5) Something I can use to fit 3 cars seats(wife baby sits) and something I could use for business.

So far, my other dislike is that its a FWD. Coming from a fully modded BMW 330ci, its kinda hard to let go of the car.

Slip it into nuetral at long stoplights if it bothers you that much
