Anyone ever use this... Dupli-color Vinyl & Fabric coating???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was at the local autoparts store today and I came across Dupli-color High Performance Vinyl & Fabric Coating... I have this huge stain in my rear seat black leatherette.... and I was thinking of spraying my entire rear seat... I have already pulled it out and its ready for spraying. Has anyone ever used this stuff? Should I use flat black or gloss black? Here is what Dupli-color's website says...

"Dress up or add life to your interior vinyl and fabric with Dupli-Color® High Performance Vinyl & Fabric Coating. It’s perfect for vinyl seats, dashes, door panels, shifter boots and consoles. Formulated with a maximum adhesion promoter so there’s no need for primer. It’s fast drying and won’t crack, peel or chip. Available in a variety of OEM colors or hot tuner colors."

So this should work on the leatherette stuff am I correct? I mean its like vinyl and the site says you can paint seats... So I thought I might try it out since its only $6.49 and would cost much cheaper than having a new seat covered... The stain is buggin the F out of me, lol. So anyone use this before? Any suggestions or tips? or what not to dos?

Thats what I was thinking too... Im just curious if anyone has used this, I want to know how it holds up long-term... Im thinking it works more as a spray-dye instead of a paint.. since its for fabric and seats. I also have red suede racing seats that ill be installing in the front soon whenever I get a free weekend from work, so Im not too worried about matching the rear and the fronts... since the fronts will be pulled.

hey wait one minute... im at work and i cant check, but i have the stock black leatherette piece from when i re-did my armrest cover... isnt that the same material used in the seats? if so, I could just spray that and use that as my test piece... anyone know? or can someone go look really quick for me? Thanks

I wouldn't recommend it. I haven't used them on leather, but it flakes off of vinyl, and will eventually rub off. It will also wash off of non porous surfaces. If you can afford it, I would have it professionally done. I am anything but impressed with that stuff. You can pick it up cheaper at Walmart though if you do decide to use it.

WOW, the results are in!!!!!! The back seat looks brand new!!! Seriously, best $6.49 Ive ever spent, lol. I used the Dupli-color high performance vinyl and fabric coating in FLAT BLACK, it goes over very very very thin, each coat, 2 coats later, the rear seat looks brand new, and it dried within 2 minutes, doesnt smudge, peel off, crack, etc. Its pretty much leatherette dye in a spray can. I love it, I am very pleased with the outcome. Well, time to go out the rear seat back in, I wish I would have taken some before pics of the huge white stain in the leatherette, but I didnt, however the seat looks brand new now and I am very happy. I highly suggest using this product if your black seats are looking faded or terible, they also sale other colors as well, such as brown, tan, creme, gloss black, etc. Im sure that there are more colors avaliable online.

I sure hope your vinyl itself doesn't crack, the last stuff I sprayed onto something vinyl, supposedly made to protect it and guaranteed blah blah blah, actually made the vinyl crack all to pieces within days.

My ecru steering wheel has a few scrapes and wear marks that I'd like to hide, plus I've already painted some of the interior parts flat black to get a nice contracting combo...and have been wondering about using this product on the steering wheel? ...

This is why I went with vinyl and fabric paint... it wont crack. Also, to be honest, I dont see how dye can actaully make it crack... maybe you put something else on there that made it crack... too much weight maybe?
