    4300k vs. 5400/6000k

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i got my bi-xenon e-codes and oem d1s hid kit(thanks akinaboy).....I was just wondering if their is a noiticable decrease in light output when going from 4300k to 5400/6000k ?

Also are the 5400k noticable more blue than the 4300k?

    Pics would be a plus

    Thanks.

I have 4300K valeo zenon kit and seriously wished I had gone for the 6k kit. Don't get me wrong, the 4300K kit looks great, I just want a little more blue.

    Re: 4300k vs. 5400/6000k

4000-4300k on the visible light spectrum is the whitest. The higher color temperature ("k") you go, the closer to Blue the light will be, and the less visibility you will have (since white light reflects off the most surfaces). Anything less then 4000k will start getting in the yellow shades, and eventually red. "k" is simply the temperature (measured in the Kelvin scale). The higher the temp, the "cooler" the color.

Remember the "R.O.Y.G.B.I.V" (Roy G. Biv) back in grade school? Well now you know.

Edit: The picture above is the VISIBLE SPECTRUM to you people with the brokeback mindset!...and *NOT* a rainbow because I have a different sexual orientation!!!

    Re: 4300k vs. 5400/6000k

    definitely a difference.

for blueish/purpleish you gotta get the 6k.

the 4300k will give you a bit better light output though.

    Re: 4300k vs. 5400/6000k

I went from OEM 4300k to 5400/6000k and it is a BIG 'visible' difference. If you put one bulb in each headlight the 600k will look white with a tint of blue and the 4300k will look yellowish white in comparison.

4300k will give you the most visible light but the 6000k will give you a 'whiter' light. For my eyes I see better with the whiter light as it makes the shadows more defined.

Will there be a decrease in light output? 95% of a hell of a lot of light is still a hell of a lot of light.

If you want to see the difference in color temperature and light output do a search as I have posted pictures of 5000k, 6000k and 8000k HID bulbs.

    Re: 4300k vs. 5400/6000k

5400k and 6000k are the same bulb.

Also they don't make D1S bulbs higher than a 6000k color temperature. If you do see any they are fake or a rebased D2S bulb.

    Re: 4300k vs. 5400/6000k

    4300K is the brightest.

When you move up the visible spectrum, the coloor looks cool, but the useable output of light decreases.

The perfect balance for me is 6000K

Any higher and it's just not bright enough.

    Re: 4300k vs. 5400/6000k

If I were you, I would keep 4300K bulbs.
When i had 6000K bulbs on my car, I was happy to see nice blueish color, but when I drove on HWY in the night, it was much darker than when I had 4300K oem bulbs.
I think there is about 400 lumen level loss when going from 4300K to 6000K.
current: 2010 Audi A4 2.0T - Blesk 5000K D3S bulbs, LED interiors, Blesk 3000K HID fogs, Blesk LED festoon on license plates, carbon fiber wrapped roof, + more upgrades may be on the way upon approval from the boss (wify)

very true, i noticed the same effect when driving on the highway too. on the highway, the 6000k seems to loose its brightness but with 4300k its a way better improvement but im still keeping my 6000k bulbs nonetheless.

    Re: 4300k vs. 5400/6000k

Personally I have 6000k. The color looks great. The only things I would change would be adding e-codes, and buying a 55w kit (vs. 35w kit).

    Here is my 01 s4 with a 35w 6000k kit

Here is one from inside thecar. My housings were fudged up and aiming low. New e-codes would also take away from the sloppy pattern, but overall an improvement over stock.

A 55w 6000k coupled with euro spec housing would give you great light output and just enough hint of exotic style that does not sacrifice safety or performance.

Okay...so i have Stock xenon headlights. I have a set of Bi-xenon ecodes waiting to be installed. If i buy a pair of 6000k D1s bulbs and connect that with my stock balast into my bi-xenons will i encounter any problems? there wont be an amperage issue?

^^NO, just make sure they are D1s bulbs. What brand are they? Make sure you get Osram or Phillips.

    Re: 4300k vs. 5400/6000k

i have 6k in my ecodes and i definitely love the look...however, there are some times (usually when passing another car equipped with 4k) that i wish my bulbs had a bit more light output.

if i am driving in one lane on the highway with my 6k, and someone driving in the lane next to me has 4k, once our lights start to battle on the road surface, the 4k always ends up bathing my blueish light in its brighter white light. that's when i wish my lights were just a tad brighter.

but over regular halogens, it's LITERALLY, a night and day difference.

if you want the blueish/purpleish color, you gotta go 6k. It's still ridiculously bright, but it's just not as bright as 4k.
