Question A-pillar interior removal with curtain airbags?

    Hi all!

I'm planning on installing a Bluetooth car kit in my 2002 A4 3.0 Q. It has a big old "airbag" sign on the interior piece that starts out as the A-pillar ans then extends past the drivers side hand-grip almost to the B-pillar.

I believe there is a DIY here somewhere on how to remove it, but I don't think it was on a B6 with a curtain airbag.

    So my question is:
Is it safe to remove this piece over the airbag or am I playing with fire here?

    Thanks!

Looks like his had an airbag after all. So I assume it's safe?

I dont see a problem with it.. from those pics doesn't look like anything is connected to the pillar... You should be cool!

yes, you can remove the A pillar safely.
the a pillar is secured by the torque screws as posted.
you'll need to pull the pillar out ie perpendicular to the door frame to pop three metal latches that hold it in...after you pop those, you'll need to pull backwards to remove it (there's a slot at the windsheild where the A pillar piece slides into)
I've done this install 3 times with an install/deinstall/install.

Once you got the A-pillar cover off, is there an easy way to pass a wire down to the fuse box? And how do you get from the fuse box to the glove compartment (or behind it) easily?

removing the glove box is easy, just need to make sure you get all the bolts out and it drops right down. feeding a line to the fuse box on the other side of the car just involves snaking it over. Not hard, just make sure you zip tie it down well or they'll rattle. you'll need to pull the radio obviously.

i didn't remove the fuse box as in the post you linked. i just used fuse taps and spliced the wires onto those. no messing with the actual fuse box.

    good luck

Yes, great pictures and write-up, thanks!

How did you get the wire down to the fuse box from the A-pillar?
