How much would it cost a shop to rewire the headlights?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had a local body shop install a set of xenon ecodes for me today and they offered me to do the wiring for relatively cheap price... However, about 30 minutes ago, they called me and said their mechanic needs a lot more time to rewire the headlights and it would cost me more than 200 dollars, which I think is just outrageous.
My car had 2 piece halogen lights and they had to be cut and spliced to work with the ecodes (I provided them with a wiring kit from AWE tuning). Is there a lot of work involved to rewire my set up to work with the xenon lights? I just think 200 dollars for rewiring is just crazy.
Also I could've had another fellow AZer in NJ to rewire them for me... I should have went with the safe root...

Took me a few hours to do both sides, inc cutting the fender lip and soldering the wires to make a good connections, and mounting my HID kit in Oem location.

    100 bucks an hour !!!!

Stop them before it's too late! Unless you really don't have time to do it yourself or have money to burn, there is really no reason to have someone at a shop rewire it for you @$40 an hour or more.

So, a couple hours out of your saturday afternoon (or weekday evening?) or $200 - your call ;-) .

don't do it. i did it myself. yea, it too me a few hours, but it wasn't hard at all. plus i was fixing someone else's mistake so i needed everything new. i sodered the wires, put butt connectors, crimped, heatshrank and finally used electric tape. did it myself with my dad supervising. it doesn't really require that much skill. my dad just taught me how to soder, but everything else i got fine.

either they don't know what they're doing or they charge alot per hr. I'm guessing you already pay for the mounting and what not. shouldn't cost $200 to wire it up.

Re: How much would it cost a shop to rewire the headlights?

I'm lousy with a soldering iron and was slow and cautious when wiring them up. It still took maybe 1.5 hours to do both sides. That was with my wife talking the whole time which has to add at least 20 minutes.
