Anyone painted their trim Piano black?

I have an extra set of trim from my other car and was thinking of doing this. Wonder what type of black would be a good match and durable.

Re: Anyone painted their trim Piano black?

I know several people have painted the trim piano black and the results are incredible. Personally, I don't think suede looks good on trim so I say go for it! I'm not sure on which kind of paint, but I know there have been threads on this before (hopefully not lost in the crash) and there have been some one Audiworld. I think there was actually a guy who was painting them piano black if you send him the pieces.

No way, out of all the things the ricers have been doing to our cars lately, the suede on the belt line trim is the worst!

I'm thinking of trying to use the glossy black appliance epoxy-based paint from rustoleum, I know that stuff does NOT chip. But I'm not sure it'd look as good as the OEM Piano black trim

Re: Anyone painted their trim Piano black?

sand the trim pieces down, prime it, paint black, clear coat, repeat a few times until nice and glossy. admire. it would look real nice.

or you could have a body shop do it for you.

I used Honda Black for mine. It is black enough, but I wish I clear-coated it more. There are some chips in the drivers door trim from the (Im guessing) seatbelt whacking it.

Re: Anyone painted their trim Piano black?

The answer to your question is yes. I have. All you do is scuff the wood down with scotch brite pads. No primer is needed as it is already a sealed surface. Lay down a few coats of plastic adhesive promotor then lay down a few coats of black. I used brilliant black (audi Color) and then laid down a few coats of urethane clear over that. Put it in the booth for a few hours. Wet sand, polish, voila. Perfectomundo

It really makes the interior look much better in my opinion.

Re: Anyone painted their trim Piano black?

im planing on doing piano black to my trim this summer.. with how much of a bitch it is to get the dash trim out im definately only doing this once.. so im taking the peices down to my brother's shop and having them professionally done.

without my hookup i think it would cost in the range of $150ish for prep paint and everything..

Re: Anyone painted their trim Piano black?

Thanks everyone! I'm going to go to home depot and get a can of "Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy" paint in gloss black. IIRC, it should be a VERY close match to the OEM piano black, and the epoxy based formula makes it so it does not chip or scratch (same kinda finish a refrigerator is done with, for example)

id say throw a layer or two of clear coat on afterwards for extra gloss + protection. or take it to a bodyshop and see if they can do a quick clearcoat spray next time they are painting something. they shouldnt charge you much.

    and definatly make a DIY.
