Lessons in sewing... Also, where to get Alcantara?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, wanted the wife to make me a new shift boot today since my leather is starting to crack and fall apart!! Well, she wasn't "feeling good" so I had to take matters into my own hands!! I ripped out my old boot and took it apart for a pattern... THEN I went to go get some Alcantara... Big mistake!! No one here sells it NOR do they sell leather or suede!! So, I had to buy some cheap vinyl which is good to practice with anyways... For my first time ever using a sewing machine, I would say, it isn't all that hard!! Definatly with enough practice I will get better!!! Also, I may be getting ALOT of Alcantara if I can find it, so if you guys that missed buying them from Tycoon, you can buy them from me!! Probably $50 a boot!! But I promise you I will have MUCH more practice making these so they will be alot better!! I did black with silver threading along the sides... When I find thicker thread, I will start getting more colors and custom make them... I will start out with black and continue to other colors if there is enough interest for a certain color!!

    Part way done with it!!

How gay!! I am learning to sew!!

    Li'l closeup!!

Couple of installed pics!! I'll try to get better pics in the light next time!!

it might have been a good thing you didnt use suade...even though it would have looked hottttt. I got suade put in on my door handles and my armrest bc the original were goin to shit. I asked the place I got it done about putting suade on the shift boot but they said it would have a good chance of ripping and not lasting very long. heres a pic of my interior. is it just me or does anyone else think the cupholders they put in this arent worth a damn?

Yeah they're worthless. I'm thinking of taking them out and hardwiring an iPod in that spot, don't know how I would do it but it'd be hot.

Good job, looks great!! I was thinking about getting some suede and doing my roof liner...I learned how to sew when I was 11 years old because I was getting sick of asking my mom to patch up my stuff. She got 3 big ass sewing machines so I could do any type of material. I did my friends boat all in pleather lol but $150 in material, huge difference. It's not gay to learn how to sew

Hahah, that is where I need a little more practice... I just did the two threads down the sides BEFORE I sewed the last corner shut... Turned out OKAY but like I said, there is more research I must do!!

HAH! I used to make these suede boots too. I could never figure out the last seem. A seemstriss or whoever said i needed a lower profile machine and you need to fold it well. I somehow think that seem is impossible.

I was thinking about making them in black at first... Then more colors later on... But I want to make sure I have a demand for a certain color first because this crap is $$$$ $100/yard plus shipping!!
