Timing belt cost and time frame..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Did a search and didnt really come up with much. Need a rough idea on how much it would cost to do timing and how long would it take. Don't want to fork up too much and I am kind of in a time constraint. TIA

If you are paying to get it done.....it should take one day (full shop day) and you're looking at anywhere from $800-$1400 depending on where you go.

if you're planning on doing it yourself and not familiar with the car...better set aside the weekend and like meddie says, ECS sells a kit.

i thought TB was very hard, but as long as you dont get it off timing, everything else is easy. i have and 98 A4, nothing compared to 2.7T, but is just setting your mind that you can do it, and everything will be ok, thats what it did, and i saved myself the labor, which i spent on the S4 front bumper + paint.
2001S4NY is really helpfull since he is offering the tools.
Good luck if you DIY, if not good luck as well with your bank acct loosing, at least, arround $800 bucks, which you can spend in something else.

I say DIY if you have any knowledge of cars. I did my A4 in 5 hours start to finish. Even at $80/hr that would still only be $400, I dont know how shops get away with charging double for a job they could do faster than me anyways. The stealership wanted $1100 just for labor.

I bought the Truly Ultimate TB kit from Jeremy at Matrix for around 300, and had a local shop put it on for about 300. I called Audi and they wanted $1500, ha

Agreed. An honest, competent reputable shop will prolly charge around 300-400 in labor. I paid about 300 for the TB job.

Then again some shops have more overhead than others.

I think I paid about $1200 for the full timing belt service (waterpump, thermostat, tensioner/pulley/roller) as well as cam and cam cover seals, cam tensioner seals, valve cover gaskets, and my snub mount. Seems about in line with what others are saying and the cam tensioner seals definitely added a few dollars to the bill. Having just bought the car, I wasn't too confident in my DIY abilities so paying for it was the only way to go for me. I had the tensioner fail about 2 weeks after having the service - but luckily the shop hooked me on labor. My only recommendation would be to get the complete/ultimate kit (like ECS caries) if you can swing it.
    Good Luck!

Just did mines at 95k, Cost of parts was about 300$ with g12 coolant. from ecs tuning, I did Tb, waterpump, thermosta, accesory belt. Took about 8hrs for me. I've done one on my 1.8t a4... remember to let the car idle till normal temps, check for coolant leaks, make sure the fans work, when you put that new pump with gasket, put on some ahesive, to get the gasket to stick on the pump evenly then put it on. I suggest to have the water pump and many other parts toque aswell.
