Do I have D1s or D2s bulbs? **PICS**

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have stock xenon, and want to buy Bi-Xenon housings from AWE Tuning. They say that only D2s works in Bi-Xenon. Is this correct? I want Bi-Xenon because the 05' Ultrasport has them and they are A LOT brighter than regurlar Xenon.

Here are a few pics of my stock housings...

    Thanks in advance..

D1S are square based (like what you pictured) and D2S are round based..

Ive never heard of Bixenons being D2S, thats odd.. D2S tybe bulbs were from the B5 era and some early S4 housings came that way but a majority of the B6 housings are all D1S's..

Bixenons are all D1S and that is what is shown in the pics.

There also should be no reason why bixenons would be brighter than regular xenons as the bulbs are exactly the same unless the bixenon high beam cutoff shutter is down.

Isn't there a flap in the Bi-Xenon E-Code that angles the high beam up a little bit?

These are the housings that my D1s Bulbs are going to go into...

You can see the highbeam cutoff plate in the pic you posted above by looking right through the center hole where the D1S bulb goes into.

The high beam butoff plate blocks a portion of the light being projected out when in low beam mode.

When you activate the high beam switch a solenoid activates and locks the cutoff plate in the lower position and allows all of the xenon light to be projected out of the lens.

Since you are using the same bulb there should be no reason why it would be brighter in a bixenon housing than a regular xenon housing if the cutoff plate is in place.

It's seems to be brighter becouse of the lens diameter.Bix lens size is different then regular xenon lens.

simple swap, everything from your factory xenons should go right in, just gotta cut and solder the wire harness. might have to do a little hacking to the Ballast cover too.

    install it and take pictures!

oh yea lower your car too.
