let's have a poll. How many of you store your alcohol in the freezer and how many of you don't?

My roommate says you should, i argue you shouldn't. I figure, if restaurants and bars dont freeze their liquor, why would we?

It's MUCH easier to drink if it's REALLY cold, plus when you mix it it won't lower the temp. of the drink. ALSO, the reason restaurants and such don't freeze them is because it would take FOREVER for a bartender to take each bottle of alchy out of a freezer for every drink.

I don't know, as a personaly preference, taking shots with a VERY cold shot vs. a shot sitting at room temp., the cold shot is MUCH easier to take. As far as for storage of liquor, you definetly DON'T need to freeze it, but if i'm drinking it, i like to have it COLD.

Only because the only other thing in the freezer is a 200-pack of Otter Pops, and the fridge proper is full of beer and pudding and sammich makins.

see i enjoy my drinks cold too, that's why i put ice in them. As for the taking shots scenario, i agree that the cold helps, so if i'm going to be taking shots, i'll keep it in the fridge, not the freezer. I just always thought the freezer was pretty harsh for the stuff. Here's what i found upon further investigation of this matter on www.askyourbartender.com

"If these are exposed to exteme heat or cold they will be affected in a bad way. The sugars in them will crystalize and settle to the bottom of the bottle. This takes a lot of the body and flavor of the liqueur with it. You'll know if this has happened by looking at a light through the bottom of the bottle. You will be able to see the crystalized sugars if they are there. And no matter what you try to do, you cannot re-constitute the sugars back into the brandy."

    BTW, i love the otterpops.

STOKED, finally some real info, I usually keep my alchy in my mini fridge in my room, but i used to put my alchy in the freezer if i was going to be using it. Now I know to put it in the fridge instead, thanks for that info.

yeah, i think the fridge is where it's going to be from now on. More useful info. We all know this one, but might as well post it anyway.

Oh!, one last thought here. As far as your Dairy based Liqueurs go(ie: Bailey's Irish Cream), once you've opened them, you should keep them refrigerated and try to consume them within about 30 days. I believe they're ok on your shelf, seal intact, for about 3 or 4 months.

Yeah, but if you're a typical college douche with McCormacks or ****ing Monarch, you don't give a shit about preserving the taste. Monarch's 'body and flavor' can stay at the bottom of the bottle.

The stuff ya wanna shoot put in the freezer and the stuff ya make a drink with not.

For example: I put liquors in the freezer(Tuaca, Jager,..etc.)
Not in the freezer(Jack, Gin, Brandy,...)

Vodka is one that can go either way to me.
