Quick question for you good folks... been running Continental DWS 06 and love them... time to replace and have the option to use the new plus version or the michelin pilot sport as 4, which I'm tempted to try since I scored a great price ... but upon looking at tire rack it seems the tread width runs almost an inch wider than the DWS 06 plus at the same 275 width?!?
I'm running the perfectly dialed in stance with spacers and no rubbing... can barely fit a piece of paper between the tire and fender liner... if this is true I'm going to be rubbing despite running the same size... which is super annoying...
Can anyone confirm the pilot sport as4 runs much wider in real life to the dws?
Also, not to beat a dead horse, but your preference between the 2?
Thanks guys!

I can say for sure that the Pilot 4s run much wider. I had a set of 255 Michelins. They were essentially as wide as a set of 275 DWS tires I had.

One thing I do like about the Michelins are the sidewall lip that protects the wheel--much better than the Contis (at least the original DWS 06).

Which did you prefer and why?
Thanks jbain2!

Totally different tires. The 4s is a max performance tire. Any snow or sleet accumulation and it is rendered totally useless.
I’d also agree about the wheel protection that Michelin adds. Nice piece of mind for when your wife drives. 🤣

My experience is Continental's have a softer sidewall if you prioritize comfort. Where are you seeing the 1" difference in tire width?

He is referring to the Pilot sport all season tire, not the 4S summer tire. Michelin could have done a better job here naming the tires. You would think 4S would be 4 -seasons, [rolleyes]

I know. I had a set of 4s tires, not the A/S. So I commented specifically on them. But my understanding is that the wider width seen on Michelin’s is true across all of there tires.

if you look at the spec sheets on tire rack for both the michelin and conti at 275 width it shows the michelin is almost 1" wider because of the square shoulders and if you click on how they measure, it shows it's due to the square shoulders vs round

My bad. I was comparing oem size tires, didn't realize you had 20x9. I see the difference is .06in when comparing 275/30/20.

I had the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ prior my Conti DWS 06+. I'm assuming the width of the 3+ is similar or the same as the 4's. I was rubbing like crazy with the A/S3+, generally only during slight road dips. It was super annoying. Also, I'm not even that low, running the B12 bilstein kit, so I have about 1.5-2 finger gap all around. Ever since i swapped to the Conti DWS 06+, no rubbing whatsoever. I do like the conti's a lot better overall as well. I say if you're dialed in, get the conti's again. Unless you want to raise your car up, the passenger front tire will definitely be rubbing hard with the Michelins.

fwiw, I'm on my third set of the a/s 4's (SQ5) and they handle excellent in wet and dry, not so much in snow. Main complaint is I am only getting 25K miles out of them. The place where I get the tires have been good about dealing with Michelin and getting a credit for new ones. The last set I purchased I received a $780 credit. The tire dealer said Michelin is the best to work with when it comes to getting credit even if you don't have a documented history of tire rotation.
