Just bought my S5 and low and behold it's leaking oil. SO frustrating. After getting it up on my lift it has been leaking for a while so just cleaning up the mess took a bit. It's really hard to tell where it's coming from but the splash shield is saturated at this point. After cleaning up everything I could see I went back up to the top of the engine. There is a layer of oil and dirt all over the engine. It reminded me of when someone uses a heavy engine detailer and you just get dirt and grease after a while. Also definitely have oil/grease/dirt down the valley of the engine and around the oil filter housing. Could the oil filter housing leaking be causing all this mess??

For those that have had this problem, are you changing out the whole assembly or just the gasket? I've read a couple posts that suggested warpage. I don't want to do this more than once, so I'm tempted to buy the whole assembly and start fresh.

Questions:

1. Does this sound like oil filter housing leaks? Certainly appears to be.
2. Are you changing the gasket or the whole housing assembly?
3. I had to disconnect the coolant line and oil line to the turbo to get it out. Will I need to bleed the coolant system or take any special measures because these lines have been disconnected?

I just went through this and did a how to. I went for the whole assembly because I only like to do things once. Odds are in your favor of it just being the gasket if you need to be thrifty, though. I soaked everything in simple green and cleaned everything from the valley to the subframe and aero shields with a $30 steam cleaner from Amazon and it worked great. I also used isopropyl alcohol in a few areas.

It could also be the oil cooler, so be aware. I changed my filter housing and checked for leaks at the cooler and it seems I got lucky because that's not leaking yet.

There is a TSB on oil leakage; https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10155709-9999.pdf

I just replaced the gasket, and also the oil cooler gasket on top on my RS4. The oil filter engine oil leaked went all the way down slowly towards the bottom of the engine.
