View Full Version : A few annoyances with the RS6. Are there solutions?

Hey all, so I've had my RS6 for a month now and love it. It's an amazing daily driver, super comfortable, and plenty of power and definitely has a presence on the road.
But theres a few things I'm noticing and wondering if there are solutions here.
1) From what I understand, the air suspension only goes it its lowest setting while the car is moving and in dynamic mode. Unlike the RS7 and Q8s, you can't just press the lower button and always be at that lowered height.
Is there a way to code this to work like the RS7, either with VCDS/OBDeleven, or the factory tool?
Alternatively, I was thinking of lowering the car. I read it can be done by VCDS/Obdeleven. But this lowers the the car in all settings (which is fine). But Since the car drops even more in dynamic, what would be a safe amount to drop by? is 20mm ok? Which would be 30mm total in dynamic.
2) The parking sensors are so sensitive! It starts beeping and going crazy just trying to park the car, and when I'm done i go look and its like 2 feet away from the curb, or objects in front. Can I lower the sensitivity of the sensors? Can the dealer do it?
3) The adaptive cruise control with lane keep takes turns so fast. It's pretty scary. It barely slows down. Then sometimes it just gives up and says "You take the wheel!". Is there a setting to change to make this feel more safe, and slow down more? My previous mercedes did this really well, and I had full trust in it taking turns at the right speed. I already changed the adaptive cruise setting to be in "comfort"
4) Do the interior ambient lights only turn on when its dark? Is it possible to make them always on? or if they're always on is it possible to code them so they're brighter?
5) The startup userprofile selection is annoying. I'm the only user. Can I bypass this? it takes forever to go away on its own.
I don't have answers to any of your questions, but I do want to bump the startup user profile thing. Soooo annoying.

CETE is the way to go. Fully customization, change height in any setting at any time. No idea about the other stuff, although I did turn the volume down for the parking sensors.

For this one, you can change how aggressive it follows the turns and slows down on the highway by going into the drivers assistance setting and clicking on the gear icon on the top right hand corner. It will make it less aggressive on the turns and slows down nicely as needed.

The worst issue I have is the damn audi pre sense. Today I was at an intersection and a vehicle was driving perpendicular to me and not all that close and I was well aware of it and the car slammed on the brakes and scared the shit out of me. I mostly happens when I'm backing up and someone is nearby and does the same thing. I absolutely hate that feature. Has anyone successfully disabled it with vcds?

The driver login thing bugs the crap out of me. Got worse the other day when I drove somewhere and parked, came back out and it’s like this person hasn’t logged in in a while please use your password…only bypass was going guest and losing all settings. Glad I remembered it from three years ago.

I was debating doing cete. But I don't really need the customization. I just want the car about an inch lower and thats it. My only concern is the dynamic mode how it lowers even further when moving.
That being said, if there turns out to be a sale on CETE I may jump on board eventually ;)

I did change the setting to drive in a comfort style rather than sport. But its still pretty unpredictable.

Yeah! I'm not a huge fan of it either. I was trying to park the other day, and i was trying to park close to the curb (with out hitting) after beeping like crazy it just did a strong brake. I thought I hit the curb, I get out and I'm like 2 feet away from it! I did find a setting for the presense for a late notify, but I haven't really noticed a difference.

I'll check it out this weekend on vcds and see if there is a way to disable with software, there has to be.

I had Sam install maneuver assist but with the overly sensitive parking sensors all it does is slam on the brakes needlessly.

I would go into the audi presafe setting and select late warning as it will be less sensitive. I have not had this issue in almost 3 years with the 2021 RS7.

I’ve been lowered via the vag tool for a while now. Went about an inch down and never had any issues. Since it lowers full at above 78 or something your most likely not going to have issues with the extra little bit :)

I did change the setting to drive in a comfort style rather than sport. But its still pretty unpredictable. You are not changing the right parameter to do what you want. This Comfort/Normal/Sport setting in the cruise control configuration is mainly how the cruise reacts when approaching another vehicle. There is a seperate setting that defines how speed is adjusted in corners:
Predictive control › Adjustment to curves along route - regulation based on the road ahead can be switched Off or set from Slow to Fast based on your preference. The setting influences vehicle handling with predictive control, for example the speed for driving through curves.

Oh I see, I do recall seeing that. But I couldn't figure out if slow means its going to take the turns slow, or if its going to react to noticing a turn slow. I think I have it set to fast, under the assumption it will adjust quickly. Am i wrong?

Yeah definitely change it to slow. It made a noticeable difference for me as it was too aggressive.

I had it done at pacific German. Iirc everyone’s numbers will be different due to differences in the cars however I did 25mm lower and could have done more. Seemed like a good compromise between too much wheel gap and no ground clearance. I still scrape my front lip on heavy dips or the like if I don’t slow down or not paying attention but you could do that at any height.

I have a CETE suspension control module. You are able to set ride for each Audi Drive Select setting: Dynamic, Auto, Comfort. You choose to have the same ride height for each corresponding ADS setting if you like. Or, like me, only have it lowered in Auto and Dynamic and leave Comfort unchanged. Not sure if that will accomplish what you are looking for…
2) The parking sensors are so sensitive! It starts beeping and going crazy just trying to park the car, and when I'm done i go look and its like 2 feet away from the curb, or objects in front. Can I lower the sensitivity of the sensors? Can the dealer do it?
This has caught me a few times. Like the other posted, I had maneuver assist activated also. That system doesn’t entirely work either as either my wife or I scraped the front corner of the splitter on a curb and I’ve dinged my rear wheel on a curb. Shouldn’t maneuver assist have warned me?
3) The adaptive cruise control with lane keep takes turns so fast. It's pretty scary. It barely slows down. Then sometimes it just gives up and says "You take the wheel!". Is there a setting to change to make this feel more safe, and slow down more? My previous mercedes did this really well, and I had full trust in it taking turns at the right speed. This drives me nuts as well. I hated when a curve would approach while on the highway and suddenly the car slows from 65-70 mph to 30 mph! on the highway! WTF?!?!? Sorted that out via the sensitivity settings as described by others.
Sometimes I’ll set cruise speed at 75 or 80 mph, posted limit 65 mph. Miles will go by, no issues. Then suddenly the system will decide to slow to 65 mph. No warning, no reason. Pretty startling.
4) Do the interior ambient lights only turn on when its dark? Is it possible to make them always on? or if they're always on is it possible to code them so they're brighter?
This one caught me off guard also. I thought something was wrong at first, until I realized the interior lights shut off during the day. The interior lights are tied to the head lights. When the headlights are on, the interior lights go on. So, if you want the interior lights to stay on, you need to turn on your headlights. At least I think that’s how it works. No idea if there is a coding tweak to turn the interior lights on all the time. Decided to just accept this since the lights are hard to see in the day when on.
5) The startup userprofile selection is annoying. I'm the only user. Can I bypass this? it takes forever to go away on its own.
This is annoying to me as well. Why do I need to keep acknowledging its me when I get in the car. Isn’t my profile tied to the key? I have one, and my wife has the other. Not to mention, our keys don’t trigger the driver’s seat to move to our preferred position. We have to push the door button. And sometimes that doesn’t work. I’ve been sitting in the driver seat after first pushing the door button for my settings. The seat moves to my position, then I get in. I start the car and suddenly the seat starts to move to my wife’s position. I have my key, too. She’s a lot smaller than I am, so if I don’t do something, I get squished into the steering wheel and my knees into the dash. I’ve been told by a service rep I should erase all user profiles and start from scratch. However, I’ve read that people get locked out of their cars after doing this. A huge mess that ended up requiring AoA to get involved.
Which BTW, the MMI software is a total mess. Alls sorts of issues such as Favorites getting erased, customized buttons get changed, etc. I’ve given up trying to set Favorites. It’s been a year and no fix. Pretty annoying. If the car weren’t so hard to get I’d probably try and lemon it just to get a newer one that hopefully doesn’t have these problems and has a fixed alternator system. That’s a whole other hornets nest. Go look for that thread if you want to be scared your car will die suddenly…

You choose to have the same ride height for each corresponding ADS setting if you like. Or, like me, only have it lowered in Auto and Dynamic and leave Comfort unchanged. Just to bring some clarity and precision here, the CETE module is not programmable for the different Drive Select settings per se (Comfort/Auto/Dynamic), but rather for the different Suspension settings (Comfortable/Balanced/Sport). Default suspension settings are attributed to the different Drive Select settings (Comfort=Comfortable / Auto=Balanced / Dynamic=Sport) and the CETE module will adjust accordingly. Further, when using either of the two individual RS modes, the CETE module will also adjust the suspension height to whatever Suspension setting has been programmed in the individual RS settings that is being called.

you all posted some great info and I will tweak my adaptive cruise settings. i have avoided it from the issues many of you complained about.
For the Audi Pre-Sense, my car jammed on the brakes twice and it does scare the crap out of you. The second time it happened, I was approaching a car in front of me that was slowing down to take a right turn. I didn't bother slowing down knowing the car would be out of the way shortly. I think the pre-sense jammed on the brakes because i did not have my foot on the brake at all. that would make sense even though annoying. so I try to keep my foot on the brake slightly when i confront a similar situation. But i never had any issues with curbs like some others.

So irealized that when you start the car and get that annoying user profile question that you can just ignore it and put the car into gear. it goes away very quickly...it makes it less annoying

So if you pair the car with your Audi app, the car is supposed to recognize the user via Bluetooth automatically. Never tried it myself.

Hmm, I have the audi app all set up minus the last step which is the bluetooth part because I didn't want it always on. But if this solves it, maybe worth the trade off. The audi App does automatically start up on my phone when I turn the car on though. Which is another annoyance.
I've also changed the adaptive cruise settings for curves, and don't really notice a difference. Yesterday I was on the highway, and it was taking a long sweeping curve at max speed, I just let it try and see what happens. Half ay through it panics and says "Please take over!". It's a really dumb system, it could have slowed down going into the curve (or even during), and everything would have been fine.
Another annoyance, is the parking sensors don't trigger the camera. On every car I've owned, I could make it so when the sensors beep it also shows the camera. On the RS6 I have to press the camera button everytime. Pair this with the over sensitive sensors, I'm always parked with the back of the car sticking out of the parking spot.

I tried the bluetooth/app combo and noticed no difference so I turned it off. It never seemed to recognize me.
I have the same issue with the sensors. What I do notice is that if you click the little camera on the pop up screen, it does seem to save the setting for a bit. Mine will randomly need to be clicked again but most of the time, the camera comes on with the sensors.

Parking my car is causing me PTSD it seems as it hits the stupid brakes automatically thinking I am going to run into the curb in front yet there is easily a foot or more of space between the front lip and the actual curb. It also has hit the brakes when pulling into or out of my garage as it thinks I am going to side swipe the car, it is so annoying and way too sensitive. Is there a way I can disable this? Absolutely HATE it, makes parking so cumbersome.

I beleive it's in the settings, I don't remember where but pretty sure it falls under the presense stuff.

I now ‘23’s and newer come with something called ‘Maneuver Assist’ that is a total POS and just slams on the brakes 100% (you can even hear the booster pump crank at max) if a damn fly buzzed by while reversing. You can try turning that off, if available. Else, no choice but to change the sensitivity of Pre Sense down to ‘Late’

I must have deactivated something special because I have never had issues with parking sensors on this car. Our Q7 feels more aggressive when parallel parking than anything I have experienced in the RS6.
