Full vehicle wrap question

What would the approximate cost be to fully wrap an RS6 in a different color? As much as I love our Glacier White RS6, Florett Silver was my first, and favorite, Audi color choice. It's been eating at me now for year that I had to "compromise" on exterior color when purchasing the RS6 last summer. Anything I should be aware of before getting a full wrap?

Take a look at a few fully wrapped cars before you spend the money. I wrapped my 2017 GS Corvette in orange (Sebring Orange came out the next year, ugh!!), and the price I was quoted in the west coast vs. Atlanta where I bought the car was insane. Atlanta area was $2500 full wrap with door jams while in the PAC NW it was $6500.

The reason to look carefully at a wrapped car is see if you like the look of a wrap. No matter what you do it is flat and doesn’t have the depth of shine that paint does. So unless you really want that color ask yourself if you can live with the modded car look. Plus over time the wrap can peal or bubble so make sure you work with a shop that will fix issues like this.

Personally I wouldn’t do it again- while the car looked great from 15 feet and most thought it was paint, I couldn’t live with the flat dull gloss.

This is great information and I appreciate the caution. Our RS6 is Glacier White, so there isn't really much depth to the paint anyway. Our Daytona Grey RS5 on the other hand, has an awesome "depth". I love that the Daytona Grey Metallic Imo; "pick up" surrounding color(s). Park the car near green and the car takes on a subtle green hue. I first noticed it when we'd parked next a purple building. I was madly sunned when I realized what the purple background. I didn't really want Daytona, buy it was what was available. Im a complete convert.

All that said, I was thinking I'd wrap the car with a matte color of some sort. Back when I first started looking for an RS6, Audi Carlsbad had a matte grey (Daytona?) RS6 on the showroom. Ever since I've wanted that color on our car. I don't want to paint it since that will mean any repairs would be costly. So...a wrap is my only viable option. My color options are;

Silver (not really sure this would look good)
Grey (medium dark - what ever that means)
Black
Maybe dark blue?


After, or maybe beore color, I need to get the wife's buy in...

While it's reversible, you will pay to remove it too. I did sell my Vette with the wrap, but it's not for everyone. A follow-up with the owner just recently is that he sold it again with the wrap still on. It was a high quality job, even though the price was a third of the cost locally so it did look really good. It helped that my wrap was well documented on the Corvette Forum so there was no question that the wrap was hiding anything, and the guy buying from me knew about it from the forum.

So again, look before you leap- it can be expensive and have some long term consequences (god forbid the shop scores your factory paint with a blade!)- so see samples of their work, preferably in the color you like.

One other suggestion. The color gloss can be completely solved with a full PPF wrap over the wrap. This has it's own set of problems though where the PPF is stretched it can pull of the wrap, but a competent shop can do it. I had a front clip PPF done over my wrap by the same company that did my wrap and that section of the car looked fantastic. It will more than double your cost but might be worth it for the real paint look.

Finally, there are spray on wrap products available, but I have yet to find anyone anywhere close to me that does it well. Most of these products have horrible orange peal. I have seen some posts from shops in the UK and UAE that are able to make it look like paint with a high gloss, but I'm guessing if you find a shop here using the right product and techniques it will cost well over $10K.

Do it flat silver: looks astonishing, you don’t care about the color depth, extremely easy to maintain, replace a section if scratched… I had my RS7 wrapped stealth over Nardo when the car was brand new and have zero regrets, will definitely do again.

That is my favorite thing about the stealth PPF over blues like Navarra or my Ultra Blue, satin-looking but the gorgeous flake in the paint shines through.

Another vote for OneOfOne. I had them do full PPF and ceramic on my car. Awesome work and great to deal with. No complaints.

I too considered changing colour with a wrap but my installer said that I shouldn't expect the wrap to protect the vehicle like ppf. It WILL tear and chip much more easily. SO, he always recommends PPF on top of your new colour wrap.
That gets expensive. Have fun changing that out later.

Profilm do colour change PPF, I think they call it Pro Color or something similar. However, there are only a limited number of colours and as it is a translucent tinted metallic PPF the results depend on the original paint colour beneath the PPF
