Hey guys, so I currently own a 2013 S4, and was contemplating upgrading to a B9.5. My heart is set on the 2020+, as I like the refresh and it changes things up significantly enough that I would warrant spending the extra money to do so. I did the same thing with my current S4 and decided on the B8.5 over the B8. I took a MY20 for a drive over the weekend and loved it. The interior is a world's difference over mine, with the tech and digital cluster. I enjoyed the drive however wasn't exactly sold on the car I drove (not my first choice in color, plus the price was a bit high). My dealer does have a brand new 2022 Glacier White with Magma Red interior coming at the end of the month that I am considering. I guess my post is to get other peoples options who have made a similar switch like I am considering. Quantum grey was my first choice, but if I were to order one, my dealer won't get one till the end of the year. Glacier white is another color I'd consider though. Anyways, convince me one way or the other! TIA

I always prefer glacier white and magma red over every other color combination even though I'm madly in love with Mexico blue and an Audi exclusive orange..

I went from a highly modified B8.5 S4 to a highly modified B9 S4 and the only thing I regret was not getting the S5 sportback instead. I can give you my opinion between the two but not sure it will help because our driving conditions and needs may be vastly different. I only currently have two cars that I haven't tracked and one is a range rover, I beat on my cars pretty extensively both on the track and the street.

Key things that matter more than the color scheme that you didn't mention:

1) Always get a prestige package, the used car price difference is usually negligible in the used car market.

2) Always get the S sport package with the adaptive suspension and rear diff, some odd balls will get the red calipers but not the S sport package so that's not a clear indicator.

3) All North American cars are not created equal. A large quantity of prestige models have come from Canada and Mexico which aren't true prestige models oddly enough. They're missing things that are typically included like matrix headlights and heads up display.

4) if you're interested in increasing the power output, the B9 platform far surpasses the B8 platform both in engine output alone and with the turbo charger. That plus the comfort features of massaging seats while on the race track and upgraded tech make it a no brainer in most cases

If none of those matter to you then just get whatever is in your price range in the color spec that you prefer.

I enjoy my upgrade. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220411/b29fe8a5647e7079601df5429207be7e.jpg

I went from a single pulley B8 to B9. The B9 is worlds ahead in terms of tech and interior. The factory brakes are much better as well. I was never impressed with the brakes on my b8. I do wish you could get a B9 with a manual though. For me, my b9 is a great way to get from point A to point B, and I still have my B5 for something more exciting and engaging. If you're looking for a "fun" car, I'm not sure the B9 is it.

Thanks for the insight XSWG. I am only looking at the Technik package (I am in Canada, so the models aren't the same, but it is equivalent to the top model like you guys have stateside). The S sport package also isn't an option here, but I think down there it includes the red brake calipers and the s adaptive suspension and rear sports diff correct? Up here, it is simply two different packages. I was looking into the Sport diff with adaptive suspension, but that is the one feature this S4 that is on the freight doesn't have. I did a lot of reading on the weekend about this, and not sure I totally need it, although I would like it. I don't track my car and don't really plan to, so was debating whether it is as important to me as it was originally after reading more about it over the weekend. If anyone can provide more insight on this though, that would be great. Also, the heads up display here is another separate add-on, which isn't a must for me. The car I am looking at actually has everything I initially wanted, aside from the sport diff/adaptive suspension package. I was also looking at the S5 sportback, but I do prefer the S4 better. That's just a me thing, but I do love the sportback's as well.

Thanks for the insight. I totally agree with the tech and interior, that is the one spot where my B8.5 is lacking. I do have a Stage 1 on my current S4 with a few other bolt-on's, like x-pipe and intake, which I will most likely also do on the 2022 if I decide to go that route. Also, for this new car I am looking at, it comes with the sound-enhancing exhaust option. At first I didn't pay any attention to this when I was building a custom one, but when I saw this one comes with it, I decided to look into it a bit more. From what I read, the sound-enhancing exhaust is basically Audi's take on an x-pipe. Am I correct in saying this? I've seen pics of it online, apparently Audi sells it after the fact as well, and it looks like it has some kind of 'tubes' where the stock resonators would be on that mid-section exhaust. Not sure if anyone in here has an experience with this, just curious is all.

Correct. Canada is a different with the options but I'm not sure. Interesting but I think it's just a sign of Audi being Audi. At one point I believe the Technik was the lowest package globally because in the US at least it came with a crappy FWD option on A models but it might be a designation for appearance because I just looked it up and compared it to the S line as being a refined experience and the S line is the sportier package. Maybe someone fro, the friendlier side of North America can provide insight because I'm not sure on the packages. I always just use the MyAudi app to make sure the car has all of the options that I want.

on my 18 S4, The "S" package gave me all sorts of performance upgrades.....Sport diff, dynamic suspension, valved exhaust, dynamic steering, 19" wheels, ect. I dont track mine either but I really like the adjustments and the sport diff under sporty driving. if you can get the sport diff, I recommend it.

So the 2022 I am looking at has the valved exhaust and 19" wheels. Unfortunately no dynamic packages however. Seems like you guys have a lot different packages than what we get in Canada. For us, we can choose between Progressiv and Technik, then we add-on after that each other MSRP option a-la-carte. We do not have any 'S' packages available. Do you guys even have Progressiv and Technik? Or are they still using the Premium +, Prestige packages down there?

No in canada the Technik is the high end model of the S4 with the B&O sound system

Progressiv model is the "entry" level of the S4 in canada. In 2018-2019 Progressiv models didn't have the digital cockpit stock in canada. It was a 500$ option.

In the 2020+ model, the technik get the followings options over the Progressiv in canada:
Top view camera
19" wheels in 5-arm Torsio design
Headlight washers
Power folding exterior mirrors
LED taillights with dynamic design and indicators
LED matrix-design headlights
Ambient interior lighting package with custom colour selection
Bang & Olufsen 3D Sound System
Rear-seat USB charging
255/35R19 performance tires

In 2018 models you could get a technik and select individually the following options: Red brakes caliper, sport differential, adaptive damping suspension and dynamic steering.

Now in the 2020+ model, you have the Dynamic package that include Sport diff and adaptive suspension (2950$) and Dynamic steering (1550$)

If you guys want to play with the options:

As a following canuk, I would suggest you to go with the technik + dynamic package + Sound-enhancing exhaust (unless you're planning on going with an exhaust without valve). I do have a 2018 technik with Sport diff, adaptive suspension and dynamic steering wheels and the sport diff is a must have. Adaptive suspension is also a really nice thing to. Dynamic steering is great but I don't feel like it's a must have like the sport diff (you'll love it on snowy days)

Thanks for the insight. After a bunch of reading on here, and research online, I have come to the same conclusion about the dynamic steering, not really worth it. I am still on the fence in regards to the dynamic suspension and sport diff however. I would like it, but a lot of what I have read, I won't really notice or make use of these two features unless I track the car/push it to its limits. I don't have the sport diff in my b8.5 S4 and not sure I would need it if I were to upgrade. That being said, S4's with these options don't seem common with these two features, so if I do want to get the dynamic suspension and sport diff, I would need to custom order. My dealer said I wouldn't be able to get one until end of the year if I am lucky. The S4 I am looking at that is supposed to come in at the end of the month is a Technik (this is a must for me) with all the options I want, plus the sound-enhancing exhaust. Just doesn't have the dynamic package which I am not entirely sold on. So that is why I am considering it.

Anybody on here with the sound-enhancing exhaust btw? Any feedback on this? From what I have read, it sounds like it is Audi's take on an x-pipe. Looks like they remove the baby resonators but there still seems to be some smaller 'tubes' in their spot. Any info on this would be great. I have an ECS x-pipe on my current S4 and love it. If I can mimic this with a factory option, would def like that.

I'm with you here, the dynamic suspension and sports diff are just really expensive items to fix if you don't need them. As for the sound enhancing exhaust it is essentially just a resonator delete. You can buy the replacement pipe from a number of vendors for a few hundred, or even from audi parts if you want to pay more for a steel pipe.
Cheers

I have done a back-to-back comparison of my fully modded NON sport package S5 sportback versus a friends unmodified sport package S5 sportback, will post soon to let you know the differences.

This is exactly my thinking and what I have read as well. That the maintenance for the sports diff is also quite expensive. I heard the dynamic suspension wasn't that bad though, but not entirely sure. I figured the same for the sound enhancing exhaust, and it is something I would have done later anyways. Thanks for the input!

Good thoughts! I have B9.5. Upgraded from dual pulley 6mt b8 that had flywheel/clutch and tons suspension mods.

Agree with most items. B9.5 blows it away on interior and tech. I’m not tuned yet but miss the instant responsiveness of Dual Pulley supercharger. New car is missing 6mt. It would be awesome with manual though I would miss adaptive cruise.

Other minor grip is the Mango Red is not as nice as Brilliant Red on my 2011.
