View Full Version : Looking for an AGM battery code with no debate

I'm well aware that the decision to code or not to code a new battery has been debated to death. Not trying to go down that road.
I just purchased a Die Hard Platinum AGM H8 battery to replace my Factory stock Flooded battery. There is NO BEM code on the AGM battery, and the Ah rating is 95 amps, versus the 110 Ah of the conventional battery. I know I can just change one digit on the original serial number, and will at least do that, but since the Ah rating is different, I am hoping to put in a proper code.
So, all I am asking is if someone has installed an AGM battery with a similar rating, what they used for a BEM code? I'd even ask if they could post it, and then I'd copy theirs if the battery rating is the same.
Thanks!

I can understand your concern to get the correct code. This thread may be helpful: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/685067-Varta-Silver-Dynamic-AGM-95Ah-850A-bem-code?p=13037823&viewfull=1#post13037823
Perhaps you can DM "Redd" and inquire as to the solution he followed for his AGM battery.

I jumped into the deep end feet-first about this time last year when I upgraded to an AntiGravity lightweight lithium battery and had some problems with coding. Ended up learning WAY more than I expected to and documented everything here. All you need / want to know about how to tell your car exactly what sort of battery you've just installed is found in the first post.

Much appreciated, I will check out those suggestions and threads.

I believe that if you contact Advanced Auto through their website, they can provide the BEM code for you.

You have to remove one of the stickers the Bem is under one of them, I bought a better from advanced auto regular lead acid and the bem code was under one of the stickers on top of battery

So you had a conventional 110Ah H9 (PR-J0Z, part number in your adaptation was probably 8K0915105F) before. And you have an AGM H8 now. You say it's 95Ah, not 92Ah? 95Ah would be more associated with a conventional H8. Anyway, if you know it's AGM H8 (PR-J0B), that would be 4F0915105E, such as came in my car.

Yes, you are correct on the stock battery code. Re: Ah of the new AGM, I double checked and it is definitely rated at 95Ah. Thanks for posting that code of your battery, it corresponds to some of the info I have uncovered in my search and from the links others have posted. What make/brand is yours?
I don't know why they make it so damn hard. As suggested, I even peeled off all the stickers trying to find a code on it, smh.

? The vendor code and serial number are for warranty claim and log purposes. They do not impact the charging system operations. Mine was JCB from the factory and I left it JCB when I replaced my factory battery with another AGM H8. Just changed the serial number by 1.
I've already been there done that regarding the 8K batteries, so I know the info is correct. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/914634-Parasitic-Battery-Loss-VCDS-Logs-Included?p=14358286&viewfull=1#post14358286 As for "95Ah", could simply be a test difference. H8 (group 49) AGM is still H8 AGM.
Make sure you reset the date/time after connecting the battery before running the adaptation so that the history file for the J533 address seems intelligible.

So here's my current battery profile:
8K0915105F MLA 140620KOEQ
The new profile using the AGM part number for a 92 Ah, and changing battery type to Johnson Controls ( JCB) and updating the serial number for the battery manufacturer date of 10/21, would look like this:
4F0915105E JCB 211020KOEQ
Does that seem logical?
Also, I put a battery tender on the car when I swapped out the battery, so no stored data was lost on the car.

I disconnect the battery all the time for stuff, for several days once; data doesn't get lost that I've seen.
As long as there's two spaces between E and J, looks fine.

[up] Thanks for clarifying needing 2 spaces between the E and J, since I was trying to figure out where to get a total of 26 Hexadecimal digits. I will try this today and post my results.
