As of today, I have 100% fully functional Wireless Android Auto.

This works by having a slave device (similar to a raspberry pi) plugged into the car's USB. The phone connects to the slave using BT and wifi which prompts the phone to automatically load AA and start it on the MMI.

A couple of devs from XDA-Developers have been working on this for a couple of years. They went beta a couple of weeks ago and I was lucky enough be their Audi b9 MMI tester. We got the bugs on the MMI worked out today and I'm stoked. I've posted a couple of pics below to... well just to show off [:D]

They will be doing a kickstarter very soon and when it goes live (probably later this coming week), I'll post a link and it'll give the details.

Wired AA doesn't work for me just based on my driving habits. The MMI voice recognition system has also been very hit or miss. I'll be testing with Google's voice recognition and looking forward to working with google maps and waze. Not to mention I'll have current maps forever - whereas the MMI will be frozen with the last update since my Audi Connect subscription is now expired.

Lots of apps for my wife to play with while I'm driving.

The final product will of course be housed in a pretty box :)

Nice. That looks like a Nano Pi. Is the SoC labeled "Allwinner" or "RockChip" ?

I have a crap ton of single board computers laying around. If the XDA dudes have an image I'd merely flash it and make my own. Have a link to the XDA thread?

Here's the XDA link of the story (https://www.xda-developers.com/wired-android-auto-head-unit-wireless/).
This is the XDA link of the forum posts (https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/paid-software/android-3-0-proxy-gateway-android-auto-t3813163).
The board is based on a rock chip - a Rock Pi s.

The XDA forum link has code they tested over 2 years using other devices (old Android phone, firestick, etc) as the slave. People have had mixed success depending on the car and slave device. It won't work on the MMI.

As for an image for the Rock Pi S? Ah... no. You won't find it on the XDA site. The developers deserve the few bucks they'll get per device. The less than $100 this will cost is very reasonable for AA Wireless on the MMI and the kickstarter amount should be a steal compared to the $130 cost of wireless carplay2air devices currently selling for the b9 MMI.

Thanks... meh I can reverse engineer the work and flash it myself.

The crowdfunding for Wireless Android Auto is live! The project is called AAWireless and you can sign up for it on Indiegogo (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aawireless#/) and get a unit for $55 when it ships (estimated in December). Developers have set the project as Fixed which means they only get the funds if the full amount is raised.

I can confirm that it currently works for the b9 MMI in my SQ5. It works in other vehicles as well and they are actively working out the bugs for as many platforms as they can.

If you have any questions about the device, this is a good place to ask. I am only a beta tester - not a developer - and have no stake in the project, other than hoping it come to fruition for everyone's sake.

Curious, since I think I'll definitely get one for my car (B9 SQ5). Has it been tested with Ford's Sync platform? Might need two...

I've double checked with the developers. Ford Sync 3 does work with AAWireless.

Got the same response on the Slack, so in for two!

Hope AAWireless becomes successful! Cables could be a real pain sometimes!
