These stands are failing and collapsing. I own 4 of them and I did my transmission service using these. Pretty scarey to think they could have collapsed.

Just got back from Harbor Freight. They had replacement stands in boxes sitting just inside the door. Dropped the old ones off and picked up the new ones. No paperwork required.

My HF stands are not named in the recalls, but I will be throwing them away and have ordered replacements.

What are you guys using as to not damage the frame rail with a jack stand? I've been using some wood against the grain, but always give me concern...

I made something similar to this with an old hockey puck.

Before throwing them away, I might try to take them into an HF and speak with the manager. Express your concern with the recall and using these stands. I'm sure they would help you out. In my experience, their customer service is very good.

Psa always a good idea to keep some old wheels and the jack(with no weight on the jack) under car as well. Im sure most or all of you do this already.. but if not

Thanks for sharing, Novarider. I’ve had these jack stands for three years, my B8 Avant sat on four of these for two months while I replaced the block. Scary to think of what could have happened. Wonder if/how many people got hurt causing HF to recall. Gonna drop these off tonight and hope they have replacement stands in stock like old guy experienced.

I don't want their replacement jacks, do I understand it correctly they'll give you a gift card worth what these were listed for?

Took mine in this morning but they were all out of the new ones so they gave me a $50 gift card. I’ve been using the schwaben stands for a while now and they’ve held up fine.

I have the 5k-rated QuickJack for servicing my two cars. I use these pricey rubber pinch weld blocks to protect the frame rails:

You can get those on ebay for about $7-10

Just saw that the replacement stands you get are having a zipper weld failure. Guess it's time to get something else entirely

Lets face it, you don't go to Harbor Freight to shop for quality. Here's a story on the replacement stands.

I just ordered 4 of these. They are sold individually so they are a bit expensive but they should last forever. I want to trust what's going to be holding my car above me when I do a transmission service and I'm completely under the car. They were linked above but I found them on Amazon with 2 day prime shipping. They'll be here tomorrow.

I thought this was interesting from that link I posted. According to this, 3 tons doesn't mean 3 tons per stand:

A stand rated for three tons should support 3,000 pounds — stands are sold in pairs, each half contributing to the rated total...

I saw that as well and feel like we've all been scammed. The ones I linked above are sold individually so maybe they are rated for 3 tons each. We'll see in the paperwork that comes with them tomorrow.

Edit: went to the esco website and downloaded the stand manual and it says 3 ton capacity per stand.

Marketing for some reason is inherently built into some of the testing methods used for products.

I've heard a few guys do that. Me? I had this oak lying around. Hockey pucks were at a store about 5 miles away.

I'm always on edge with 4 jacks holding a car. Where did you put the jacks for jack points? Just the pinch points? or somewhere on the frame? I always think the pinch points are just gonna bend while I'm under it and make me $hit my pants as it shifts.

On the pinch welds, once it was up it was solid.

This why I follow the advice of my grandfather (even though he hates VW/Audi since my grandmothers Audi caught fire while at doctors office back in like 05): Never buy life-dependent equipment from Harbour Freight. Only buy cheap things you can justify breaking.

Recall was expanded. You can now return any jack stand for a refund weather it's part of the recall or not.

I returned my 2nd recall yesterday. Pissed me off. The recall clearly states either a refund of $24.99 or a store credit of $29.99. I requested the refund and was told that they were only authorized to give a store credit gift card for $24.99.

There was a lot of people in the store and the guy standing 2 feet behind me had his mask down around his chin. I just said f**k it and took the card.

Go back, site above clearly shows 29.99 store credit and it's their own site.

I know. It just wasn't worth arguing with the clerk with a backed up line at the register with little social distancing and several sniffling drooling neanderthals staring at me wondering if I was going to hold up the line.

Should've just bought that instead of getting the cheapest hockey puck on ebay and cutting a groove in it. I found the puck in my driveway recently, which means it was stuck to my pinch weld since my axle boot replacement over a month ago.

holy shit, I got my car on their 6 tons with dsg laying under. These 6 tons were not recalled when I put them on a month ago (I'm not slow, just had to wait for some stuff for 2.5 weeks shipping from Germany, lol)
P.S. false alarm, my 6 tons are still not recalled.

All about that DIY mentality! No hockey to speak of in my area though *lol*

I actually looked at my orange HF stands the other day after hearing about it and notice my pair looks cracked as well - but its hard to tell if it is just the powdercoating coming off...

Either way not using them!!
