Ok, this is going to sound dumb, but does a guide exist out there in the wild that described how to unclip the many varieties of VW/Audi electrical connectors? I'm a pretty handy guy, but I still end up spending way too long figuring out how to disconnect stuff on the car, and occasionally end up butchering a connector trying to figure out how to get it to finally release. You would think that VW/Audi would have a guide for new techs, or something like that.

Or I might just be a lost cause when it comes to this stuff.

For the standard connectors, I usually push it in (like tightening the connection) slightly, then press down on the tab to release and then pull away. Works pretty well unless it is super tight where the tab does not want to press down.

It seems that "super tight" is always my luck, and I end up yanking with pliers, jabbing tabs with small screwdrivers, etc. I'm over the struggle. I shouldn't be spending 15 minutes on something that should take 2.75 seconds.

Don't feel bad, i admite sometimes if not half of the time i'm spending trying to disconnect them aswell :p. In a way they are all press connectors be it with or without safety clip you need to pull out but that is often on the smaller ones. The bigger ones without safety clip are often the hardest ones but like mentioned above sometimes it helps to push the connector deeper first and then pull. Often it is the location or the orientation of the release clip that is a pain in the butt. Swapping plugs is a nice training :p .
*so far only broke one turbo pressure connector but replaced with new one...

General....not always...the push then pull technique works. The hard part is getting the lock clip to "disengage" while you push then pull.
I think this tool might help for some connectors but perhaps not all sizes and/or locations.

Ordered. For $11 it can't hurt.

Thank you for making me feel better. Definitely feels like way more of a pain than it should be. Might check out that tool as well.
