Hello Guys,

My b8 1.8T 2008 gear display does not show currently engaged gear but instead it shows a gear wheel symbol as shown below.

What are the possible causes and solution to this.

Thank you138799

Looks like a transmission fault. Have you scanned it to see what the fault may be?

Is that referring to the clutches in a DSG trans or THE clutch on a manual trans? I've got a 6M and had no idea the car was capable of this type of fault. What sensor or system would monitor that? I thought the clutch on the manuals is completely mechanical without any electronic monitoring.

I believe it is a manual clutch warning. The ECM knows what gear you are in and most likely has an algorithm to compare gear selection/engine rpm/road speed. If the rpm's are consistently higher than the expected value it assumes clutch slippage.

Hello,

I will have it scanned to check the fault...i think its the tiptronic manual not work because when engaging the tip mode it does not do any gear shift but drives well in auto mode.

Cool

And upon further review I believe the red and yellow also refer to the automatic transmission and not a manual clutch. Clicky clickŪ (https://www.prestigeimports.net/audi-dashboard-warning-lights/)

Transmission is possibly losing communication with other modules maybe

What might be worst damage this might cause....it is a matter of just fixing the tip mode or the tranny might be gone bad ?
