View Full Version : Some new Diverter Valve/BOV options (GFB and Turbosmart)

Noticed some new offerings and was curious if anyone has experience with the new GFB VTA or the Turbosmart DV and Turbosmart Dual Port ? I'm using the GFB DV+ and have been on my 6mt with no issues for years, perhaps there is something better/newer out there.

Now, before any of you purists chime in saying "stick with rev.D or you're a newb" or my fav "your car will run rich and blow up if you run a BOV" sort of comments. Here is an informative video for those of you who only regurgitate what you read on forums without doing your own research [:p]

GFB VTA is supposed to give the same benefits as the DV+ but also vent to atmosphere (like the DV+ this requires some assembly)

Turbomsart Kompact EM Series Diverter Valve is a straight upgrade to the factory rev.D that is pure recirculation (plug and play, curious if this performs better than the DV+ or not)

well, I spoke with a lot of people at Euro meets, a lot of the with 1.8t and 2.0t got a BOV. Those kind of people dont go on forums and put mods, and they are telling exactly what the guy said in the vid. (still, be careful, its a selling vid)
I also have 2 friends with bov on their b7 (forge bov).

And its all good. Now you can debate if making a youssshhh sound is cool or not [rolleyes] [:D]


I'm always asking; ''yes there's the theory, but have you tested it and having issues?'' Just like oiled air filters, all forums are saying its bad, but I haven't see a single person having issue with the maf or map directly linked with the fact the filter is oily... all my cars got oiled filters, all going fine.


Most people wont go with those fancy BOV, because its more expensive, takes more time to install.
and having a tune/hood liner delete/ intake cone filter with a bolt-on DV+; will do just enough blowoff sound imo.


Also interested to see if someone having one of these installed !

What can not be denied is that BOV’s DO screw with your fuel trim. It’s a fact.

What is highly debatable is how much harm, if any at all, that second or 2 of rich mixture does since it’s between shifts and not under load like the GFB sales video points out.

I think the only real benefit these aftermarket DV’s have are the sealing o rings that they all seem to have. You’re going to get a better seal with them VS the factory piston DV that is known to let a little boost blow by simply because of its design.

My only concern is, what happens if one of those seals separates or rips and where do the pieces go? 🤣

And that is probably the reason why Audi went with the plastic piston design. The diaphragm style original DV was way better as far as seal and response time goes but it ripped. The plastic piston is far stronger but doesn’t seal as well. Audi probably went with the plastic piston design with no sealing o ring because they can rip and you’re right back where you started from and now who knows what would happen if that o ring gets into your turbo now that the DV is mounted right on the housing.

real benefit of aftermarket diverter, is they are not I/O, (open or close), just like OEM.

They are spring loaded with a different spring rate ; not because the solenoid pull the rod that the DV+ will crack open. So its maintaining pressure in the system @ a somewhat low pressure.

but once again, this is on paper, yes its a fact, but what it's the effect in real world. No one have time to to lab based benchmark [>_<]

I would stay with the OEM DV until I was going big turbo and then move to the Turbosmart Kompact, I am currently stage 2 and have the GFB DV+ which after 100K (kilometres) opening is slowing down but closes quick.
