Hello, I’m in doubt of wich oil specification i use for the MTF and ATF of the gearbox and either for the sport differential. If someone have the part number of them and can send it to me i would appreciate.

UPDATED 10/29/18 with verified information via the service dept.

I believe the MTF "gear oil" is GL-5 so anything in the correct weight and synthetic would work for the rear differential (75W-90). I'm hearing to use a GL-4 approved for the gearbox (brass syncros?).

Gearbox
ATF: VAG G 052 529 A2 https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/dsg-automatic-transmission-fluid-1-liter/g052529a2/
MTF: VAG G 055 532 A2. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/synthetic-gear-oil-75w90-1-liter/g052145s2/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnNvaBRCmARIsAOfZq-1sRjWnPV38GiNBxJEvLJi_f9uAssjsZIzI6Htd768FAfWK_rhP T1YaAuGCEALw_wcB

Rear Differential (Both of these numbers have been updated recently by Audi.
MTF: VAG G 052 145 S2 Audi calls this axle oil.
ATF: VAG G 055 515 A2 This is a transfer case oil and goes on the ATF side of the differential.

Here's a photo of it. This is a recent part number change and it doubled in price. I'm an Audi club member and with a 10% discount it was $40 for 1L. And that's all you'll need for the rear differential.

More info. So I ran by the dealer today and he gave me a printout showing the part numbers for the rear differential fluids. I've now had a few minutes to take a look at all the numbers and I'm now way confused and not confident in the rear diff ATF fluid part number. ***NOTE*** Both the rear differential fluid numbers are now updated, see post #2.

With the above numbers, I noticed that the gear oil for the sport diff, part number G 052 145 A1 (it's now G 052 145 S2) is listed by ECS as discontinued and the Febi gear oil is listed by ECS as being incompatible with the RS5.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/synthetic-gear-oil-75w90-5-liter-no-longer-available/g052145a1/

It's now been superseded by G 052 145 S2.

It gets weirder with the ATF fluid which is listed as G 052 515 A2. ECS doesn't list anything. If I search Audi parts, it comes back as "gear oil".
https://parts.cavenderaudi.com/p/GEAR-OIL/53596051/G052515A2.html

This is now G 055 515 A2.

The diagram posted above has the non-sport diff on top while the bottom is the sport diff. He searched by my VIN and model number. Not sure why they show the non-sport diff unless it's just cross-referenced to other 5 series.

The VW Specification for G052145A1 is...Special synthetic gear oil with SAE 75W90 viscosity for front and rear differentials, including limited slip differentials. Don't know if the G 055 515 A2 spec is changed and if so, in what way.

Allow me to introduce even more confusion to the matter. Here's my invoice from my 35K mile service, in which I was sure to point out the rear diff service

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1817/42919494485_a5be43fa74_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/28oDCqe)

Looks to me like they used:
7 units of G-052-529-A2 Gear Oil **ECS lists this as ATF
5 units of G-055-532-A2 Transm. Oil **ECS lists this as an MTF
1 units of G-052-145-S2 Axle Oil **ECS shows this as a rear differential oil
1 units of G-055-515-A2 Gear Oil **ECS lists this as a transfer case oil

EDIT: After spending more time properly reviewing things, that jives with the ETKA printout.

G-052-145-S2 is the superseded oil for what's labeled as number 3, or the SAE portion. ECS shows this as a 70w90 (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/synthetic-gear-oil-75w90-1-liter/g052145s2/ (https://flic.kr/p/28oDCqe))

And G-055-515-A2 would be on the ATF side.

Right? I think?

Bobsledder posted this when I had a question about the oils used in the S Tronic back in April:

Seems to align with your invoice phroenips.

7 G-052-529-A2 GEAR OIL
5 G-055-532-A2 TRANSM.OIL
1 G-052-145-S2 AXLE OIL
1 G-055-515-A2 GEAR OIL

Huh so the 052-145 A1 becomes S2. Wondering why Etka didn't have the new part numbers. I believe it's subscription-based so may be the dealer let it slip.

According to Blauparts, Ravenol makes two compatible products, one the gear oil and one the transfer case oil (ATF type for clarity).

https://www.blauparts.com/audi-differential-fluid-gear-oil-gl-4-gl-5-g-052-145-s2.html

https://www.blauparts.com/ravenol-transfer-case-fluid-tf-0870-1l.html

But for the transfer case oil, they don't list the RS5.

Hey one correction, the G-052-529-A2 is the "ATF side" of the transmission and G-055-532-A2 is the gear oil, MTF side. I swapped them and marked them in BOLD above.

I just copied what it says on the service sheet. I did change the order to match phroenips' list.

G 052 515 A2 G 055 515 A2 has been updated to G 055 515 A2 This is the ATF side of the rear differential. G 052 145 A1 has been updated to G 052 145 S2. This is the gear or axle oil side.

So for the RS5 rear differential it's one of each:
G 052 145 S2 (gear oil)
G 055 515 A2 (ATF side, friction modifiers for clutch plate)

Also, here's a cross post about aftermarket transmission ATF side fluid or dual clutch fluid as they call it. Basically the rear differential ATF fluid is a modified form of what's in the dual clutch/mechatronics side of the gearbox. It's a gear oil with friction modifiers for the clutch plates, similar to what they do for motorcycles that run wet clutches.

I ran by the dealer again today to confirm the part numbers and I've updated post #2 with the correct numbers. Both fluids for the differential have been updated (new part numbers) and the ATF fluid doubled in price! Since I can't seem to cross reference that number with aftermarket performance fluids, I'm sticking with the Audi-branded fluid for the rear diff ATF side.

A bit of a revival but for posterity sake, here are the items used in the 55K km (35K mile) service I had today.

https://i.imgur.com/at7aJog.png

They forgot the transmission oil (G-055-532-A2). Had to explain that the transmission uses both MTF and ATF and that the 1 quart of gear oil (G-055-515-A2) is for the diff...

Makes me a bit concerned if they even did the fluid fills correctly given the rash of differential failures that people came across here after apparently botched 55K km/35K mi services.
