View Full Version : How to download factory service manuals for your Audi

Mods, please make this a sticky.
If you plan on wrenching on your Audi, spend $40 or so on downloading the factor service manual (FSM) for your vehicle. It'll list the torque specs, procedures and many other helpful tips. They come in a PDF format you save on your hard drive and you can use them at any time. Make a backup somewhere or stick them in the cloud in case your computer crashes.
The "home page" for the factory service manuals is referred to as the Erwin site and this is the landing page. https://erwin.audi.com/erwin/showHome.do
To get the factory service manuals for your vehicle go here for more instructions and pricing:
https://erwin.audi.com/erwin/showOrderFlatrate.do
You'll want the 24-hour flat rate which is under $40 (euros, so it fluctuates).
You'll sign up for an account (free). Choose the flat rate one day. You'll then be able to search for any and all PDF's related to the RS5, S5 and A5 line (or any Audi for that matter). Some of the PDF's don't specifically say RS5 or S5 and will say A5 repair for whatever but include RS5 and S5 information. So I downloaded pretty much everything I could for the A5/S5 and RS5 and sorted through it later. Just search a number of different ways. Plus you can download lots of other cool docs on other models to your heart's content for that 24-hour period.
Once you've downloaded, you can open them on your computer at any time. If using Adobe Acrobat, disable Java and you'll get rid of the initial warning PDF that pops up. If you don't disable Java, you just scroll to the bottom of the "are you paying attention" warning page and hit "Ok" and the FSM opens. But just disable Java in the preferences and you don't need to do that each and every time. These are yours to keep and print out at any time.

Another option: Factory-manuals.com. They offer genuine factory manuals in pdf customized for your vehicle. You supply your VIN and you get the exact manual sections for your car including all the vehicle-specific production information (it included a 7 page table listing my car's 151 options/configuration descriptions). For my 2012 S5, I got a fully searchable, hyperlinked 9000+ page pdf for about $70.

Thanks for this tip! I did the 24 hour Erwin subscription shortly after getting my Allroad. It's been immensely beneficial and this makes it even better!

I'll have to take a peek at Factory-manuals.com. The Erwin site uses the official Audi docs which are also hyperlinked PDF and searchable but often include more information than just your model.
Edit; took a look. No RS5! Grr.

The RS models may be included in other model manuals as variations as I see some RS references in my S5 manual. You might want to check with them to see if the manuals also cover RS models. Again, the manual is based on VIN number--will they accept your VIN number for a sale?
Edit: I checked my S5 manual--more than 200 references to "RS 5", so looks like it is covered in the S5 Manual. Looks like it covers in some way "5s"--A5, S5, and RS5 and contains model references from 2008-2015 and is dated 11/2015. I'm sure there is some commonality among the 5s across multiple years. I don't know if this is the same manual for all of them or they are unique for each one, but it is uniquely entitled "Maintenance Audi S5 Coupé 2011". My car is an early 2012. The first section is unique to my car with the 150 option configuration. I'm guessing it is uniquely assembled by VIN number by adding together multiple relevant Audi manual sections into one large document. Like many manuals, each section starts page numbering at page 1.

Wonder if this is the exact same content as in the Audi PDF's. It's that way in the Erwin PDF's too, the A5 manual for various car systems features S5 and RS5 content.

My independent German shop suggested to me I use All-data DIY. Its the personal version of what they use at the shop to fix cars. It has everything from all TSB's to torque specs and how long each task should take, I think even part numbers. It is however a subscription, $50 for 5 years.

www.alldata.com
Just checked them out. They have one year for $30 and they do have a specific set for the RS5. If you go through the motions, locate the car of your choosing and then "leave" the page, a code pops up for an additional 10% off The code is AD11VP.
I'd like to see the format and just how good it is. The one advantage to PDF's is they're yours and you don't need an internet connection.
Delesangre4231, did you sign up for the service? Any way to take a screen shot to show us what a typical repair procedure might look like?
It's definitely good to have choices!

Don't know what the difference is between that and DIY, but I haven't signed up yet, but when I do I'll post. The shop showed me a sample repair and it's very similar to any FSM I've ever seen.

Thank you! Great options here.
Thanks AWDfreak, I went with the factory-manuals.com option: cost, $79.99 , no problems - none. All downloaded just fine 200mbs. (a minute or two), had to wait about 12 hours before it was available in my account. Placed it on all my pc laptops, and three thumb drives. They encourage you to do so! If you use ios (apple ipad and iphone) you will need a app. I used dropbox and also it is very helpful to use adobe acrobat reader. The two work very well together, so that was seamless as well. I am no IT person, strictly a user and I had no problems ; only the ios caveat with the app. Which I guess I should have known. What I found VERY helpful was the Bookmarks (that's where adobe reader really helps). The document is set up with bookmarks in the system, but through adobe it really works well and breaks up those 9500 pages!!!! There is no way you are going to scroll through these Audi genuine documents to find what you need.
Not sure where they are located, but they (factory manuals) did respond to all my emails ; English is definitely their second language. You can download all you want...... for 30 days, then your individual document is deleted.
A Dropbox Basic account is free and includes 2 GB of space. You can download free apps to access Dropbox from your computer, phone, or tablet. You can also earn more space on your Dropbox Basic account. (copied from search)

So I found another Manual, this seems to be a full legit service manual, its only $11.46 USD. I have been randomly been scrolling through and it is extremely complete and detailed with clear color diagrams and torque specs and special tools and everything.

Hate to break it to you, but that's definitely not legit. Elsa Win is the software tool the dealerships use. Erwin is the website where the information from Audi is uploaded for public/independent shop use with a subscription. Anything else you may find is absolutely not legitimate.

Yep, that's ElsaWin. It's basically all of the PDF's you can download from Audi but in an electronic format. The one advantage it has is that you can enter serial numbers for specific major groups like transmission, differential, etc...otherwise it's all the same. And a pain to install.
Why is this thread not sticky yet?

Great thread. I did Erwin for now and downloaded for 4 cars in my 24hrs. I do have Elsawin but the Erwin looks more user friendly. I may have to check some of the others out too. I agree, .pdf's are great. A portable computer or Ipad, or just print the pages you need.

Hello everyone, I purchased a manual for my VIN from factory-manuals.com and I received an 8,874 pages with a bunch of Service Manuals chained together.
The problem I have is the General body repairs, exterior Service Manual is for an Audi A5 Sportsback 2010.
This seems incorrect. Can anyone confirm?

See the first post of this thread for the actual service manual for your car for only $40 directly from Audi. Paying $80 for a manual that was obviously ripped off from elsewhere is insane. Many items from a 2010 A5 will apply, but not everything.

Thank you. I ended up doing what you suggested. I regretfully admit that I jumped the gun way too fast on Factory-Manuals.com. I have reached out to the owner telling him that the Service Manual I purchased was for the wrong vehicle model.
All I can say is, you live and learn.

Is there a time delay between paying for an access flatrate and the system recognising the payment?
My Visa card has been deducted by €130 for 7 days access but my erWin flatrate states no purchases made?

No answer from the help desk and no response from the email “contact us”.
Beware of the erWin Site link posted above, I’m $140 lighter for nothing. When I tried to open the link above, I received a warning the site wasn’t legit but I ignored this and continued. Michel, please remove the links above until we can establish this is legit.

Damn. I’m so sorry to see that you’re experiencing such an issue.
I used erwin US site without any problems, erwin.audiusa.com. There is something obviously wrong with erwin’s UK site, erwin.audi.com
Here’s the support form:
https://erwin.audi.com/erwin/showRequestSupport.do
I only found a phone number for a germany hotline:
Service hotline: 01805- 242498
(€ 0.14 per minute, charge calculated per second)
I don’t understand your e-mail problem.
James... dispute the charge on your credit card. Tell them you never received the goods you paid for and the company has no record of your payment.
Good luck!

I think you may have gone to a fraudulent site that looked like the official site but actually wasn't. I'd probably cancel that credit card.

Hmmm, I’m not sure, I followed the link above on the first post, the page didn’t open but a warning page did, you know the ones you sometimes see on IOS warning of a websites security. Anyway I clicked to continue anyway and it took me to a legitimate looking Audi site, I registered my details and made the payment. I get an immediate sms message on my phone when my credit card is used showing the amount and where it’s been used, and this happened (Purchase of AED559.41 at Audi AG Ingolstadt) when I tried to access the flatrate I got the message of no purchase made.
I tried calling the help desk, no response but the automatic message gives a contact email, I tried that but it bounced back as undeliverable, I called again to double check the email address and I had it right.
I’m reluctant to try again, as I don’t want to keep depositing money in their account.
Edit: I just tried to access the site, my username and password are both invalid !

Yeah definitely a hacked page. They can literally take all the code from a legitimate page and change what they need (contact info) and once you enter your information, they'll bleed that card dry or sell the information on the dark web. I'd cancel the card asap and let your cc company know.

Roger that, thanks for the warning.
What URL did you go to? I'm hesitant to say that you visited a fraudulent/or cloned site with malicious intent. I first visited erwin.audi.com and went to pay for my Manual access and that site reported that because I was from the United States, I would need to use a different site, erwin.audiusa.com.
There is no malicious clones that will go as far as sending you SMS messages upon registration.
Now when I purchased my 1 day Flat-Rate, I received 2 e-mails - An erWin Audi confirmation of registration and an erWin confirmation for the order.
You should have received something like that.
My advice would be to dispute the credit card transaction. I HIGHLY doubt that this is a case of fraud. I would contact Support on erwin.audiusa.com and ask them for assistance or advice. Provide them proof you purchased the subscription, etc.
Go here:
https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=erwin.audi.com
That site is legitimate as far as I can tell.

I was just going to bump. I checked into alldata.com today, leading to alldatadiy.com (their non-profession side for we DIYers).

I made a 24-hour purchase in the hopes of finding a specific part number for a bolt but I don't know where to find the part number. Here's a screenshot of the bolt that I'm looking for. Can anyone tell me where to find the part number for this? The bolt is for the seat frame of a 2015 Q7 (TDI if that makes a difference). There doesn't seem to be a listing of part numbers where I'm looking, but I'm very new to this so, please forgive me.

Through a conversation with a tech at the local Audi dealership, I was able to get the part number. The part number doesn't appear in any search on the Audi parts website. Very disconcerting. Part number is N91019202. Perhaps I need to enter it with dashes or something??

When you plug it into duckduckgo it comes back as a genuine VW/Audi part and you can buy it from ecstuning They also have a nice picture of it.
https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/N91019202/?msclkid=9c87b04bbbce15a83fa0ef6a09979eec&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=VAG%20Part%20%23%20Search%20(5)&utm_term=N91019202&utm_content=Ad%20Group%20%23106
That's what I ended up doing to confirm after the Audi tech gave me the number. And then a kind soul gave me an impressive screenshot (https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/903049-Front-Seat-Bolt-Screw-Part-Number-Request?p=14229860&viewfull=1#post14229860) from a program for which I don't have access unfortunately. So far my S4 and the Q7 have been very, very reliable so I haven't had to do much more than fluid changes, brakes, and batteries.

I purchased the one day access to erWin Online and downloaded all the documents pertinent to my 2018 A4. But, when I try to open any of them, I end up at the Cautions & Warnings page where I cannot click on the "OK" button. Unable to do that, when I scroll up to the other pages the browser won't stay there and always returns to the bottom page. What am I doing wrong?
***I started trying opening the documents in other apps, and found that with Adobe Reader I can click the OK button and see all the pages.***
I read somewhere disabling Javascript will allow you to skip the warning page. Are you able to do that?
Beyond that, I found their tech support to be very responsive. Try sending them an email at

I purchased a manual from them for my car and it's 8500+ pages of most irrelevant information. There's nothing VIN specific about it. For example, it lists the transmission removal and installation for four different engines and even for the Q5 as well. That's several hundreds of pages that are useless for me, as I don't have a Q5 or a 3.2L A5 or a diesel A5 etc... All they are doing is downloading every ERWIN file imaginable and lumping them together into a single PDF. Anyone can do that themselves for less than half the price. So what value is there in paying someone to do that when they are promising a customized manual specific to your VIN?
Don't waste your money on Factory-manuals.com.

Can't recall because I stumbled upon an Audi S5 b8 service manual that has literally everything to include pictures , install instructions, tear down instructions, all motors in the B8 series. It came from someone at audirevoloution.net not affiliated with them but I've found it to be superior to AZ when it comes to walkthroughs, instructions and that sort of thing. It was like opening For. Knox at the time I couldn't believe I hadn't been there long ago. Anyhow all the sites have thier ups and downs but yeah free service manual with absolute everything you'll need all components, tools you'll need and broken down into subsections. Idk can't beat it man but definitely download a copy..

ALL B8 MODELS. A, S, RS ALL MOTORS.. should be able to just paste it in the address box and it should pop up as a zip download. It's good to go it's not a random link at this point I created it and I promise your good to go. Pass or along👍
That's just the path on your android phone. It's not accessible to anyone else that's not connected to your phone.

Oh shit wrong link. Thx for the heads up let me fix that. Y'all definitely gonna want this manual. It won't take you to it? I actually have it in my Google drive
I'm not the best with this sort of shit but I thought I was able to share photos and stuff by giving out similar links to that drive.

Does anyone else get the following below when going to erWin USA?? Seems a little shady to me...
We are experiencing issues with our credit card payment provider for erWin Service Information and ODIS Diagnostic subscriptions.
The purchasing process for erWin and ODIS Subscriptions will change on Monday September 21st, and could last through the end of the year.
To make a purchase, go through the normal process on erWin, but during checkout you will be directed to a 3rd party website to complete your payment. Once complete, VWGoA will contact you within 1 business day with your next steps.
Please expect a 1 business day delay in processing from the time you place your order. If the purchase is made after normal business hours (7AM-4PM ET and weekends), the subscription may not be available until the next business day. We apologize for this inconvenience. If you have questions, please email

Dshonwood that’s legitimate. It’s stupid but it’s real. Make sure your email is correct!

Hi Ape Factory,
Just tried using either of the links above and the following html error is coming back:
403 Forbidden
What does that mean?
Your request has been refused by the server.
Link11 is the specialized IT security provider of protecting web services and infrastructures against cyber-attacks. This request is unable to complete due to the above error and has not been filtered by Link11.
Looks like you are in Texas, and I am in Florida, so I suppose it's not a USA forbidden kinda thing.
I've tried from different browsers and computers, and a different network, still same.
Does the link still work for you?

I used www.factory-manuals.com for both my Audis. You enter your VIN and they come back with a downloadable PDF that is tailored/specific to your model/options. Cost was $130, and the manual is the official Audi service manual.

If you're in NAR, then it's erwin.audiusa.com. Looks like Audi AG is trying to block North American users from accessing their erwin server. You'd need to use a proxy in Europe to use the erwin.audi.com one.

The problem is you get that one mashed document with no index, all for the perk of giving away $100 more than necessary.

There is a table of contents/index for the entire document, and all links in the document work as well. It's been well worth it for me.

The factory manual I got from them was more than 8,000 pages and most of it wasn't even for my car. It contained info from several Audi models and was just about useless to me because it's almost impossible to navigate through it even with the index. Personally, I'd never deal with the guy running that company again. I forgot exactly where, but he's from some third world country and he's quick to start calling you names when you leave him a bad review after he refuses to answer your email messages. I actually got my money refunded through my credit card company and then he contacted me and actually threatened me. The guy is a complete joke.
