10.25” Android head unit / display (RSNAV)

Hi,

im currently not really hapy with my device. Im using the RSNAV 10.25 with the RAM-Update and ordered it 06.08.2018. software version is attached as image.

I've got often playstore and system-ui crashes. the system is really fresh, im running the CarWebGuru launcher and normally only spotify, waze and google maps.

Besides that, i thinked the display have more brightness / better colors. even on manual 100% screen brightness it's really reflective and difficult to see content on black backgrounds.

other problems i have.
- the automatic brightness isn't working for me. I don't know why, but it seems to be everytime at a low percentage - im putting it everyday manual through CarWebGuru Widget to 100% - otherwise i see nothing.
- bluetooth calls are terrible. callers are often really quiet and telling me that it's difficult to understand me and they hear them self. I have all audio sliders at full volume in the volume app.
- im missing a key like "homescreen" because i'ts not cool to control the touchscreen on highways :(

and i think a better mmi key integration would be cool because all buttons are not really usable i apps like google maps etc - but i don't know if its possible. only at the default launcher its a bit usable.

Can Somebody explain me what i have to do to hear nav's voice like Google Maps when i hear FM Radio? I putted the Center speaker plugs together but it does Not Work. This should be a Feature of the new FW, isn't it?

Do factory restore after you update the firmware. Old version of volume adjust apk will keep preventing that to work. Factory restore will force to start new version of volume adjust apk to active.

Well,
play store and system UI crash happens when there are outdated google components. So it's imperative to run play store auto update occasionally and give all the permission to google apps - how to is on the wiki's usage tips. However, I see the recent update of chrome, playstore is generating new issue. This is because the firmware is complied in China with chinese google library, but indeed that google library seems not compatible with free world library. This is one of the reason that we want to update everyone to Android 7.0.

we may be able to map all the mmi buttons work seamlessly for every app, but then again, those people with pre-facelift will lose that function. key mapping of preface lift and facelift is slightly different and we don't want to make separate firmware for pre-facelift and facelift, because already our firmware has 8 sub types, and if we do that it's going to be 16 types... no no...

There may be a batch of cable that we entirely cut out the speaker bypass.
I am not sure if this has been done or my wrong memory, but need to check.
If it did happen, i guess they were concert models, not 3G MMIs. I will check further if there is anything i have to make you people know. at least it's working in my 2010 since factory restore.

Then please do this in apps, where back is used as abort like maps. Klick back is cancelling navigation .
Bt calls are also terrible because the mic doesnt work correct there. Daniel, there is no solution till now...

I'm having a problem with the volume control. If I bring up the volume or lower the volume with my steering wheel controls, I get a very bad distortion/stuttering as it steps down or steps up....

Even tried disabling the Volume control on the steering wheel settings within Realsun settings but the volume bar still comes up at the top with the same distortion...

Even tried disabling the Volume control on the steering wheel settings within Realsun settings but the volume bar still comes up at the top with the same distortion...now we the steering volume control is paired with android media volume directly and that makes android audio output to be maximum and now it's going out of your speaker/amps dynamic range.

First, go to android settings, sound, sound enhancement and off the mediatek's bass booster or any other useless sound effect.
Second, try to restore your concert radio's value to the factory default if you increased input gain in sound settings.

By having android to maximum power output, if you have B&O or premium speakers, it supposed to wide dynamic ranges and providing more colorful sound as our Class D internal amp is designed so.

Previously, android media volume was topped at 70% with ear protection lock. But if you restart the device, it will go back to 70% default.

So just restart the device, disable the volume control in realsun setting, and everything has to be the same for you like before.

In your previous comment you mentioned that you have connected the center speaker cables together. Does it work this way ? I am asking because my car does not have a center speaker (slot is empty [=(]). I am thinking to install new speaker by my self. I want to check if it worked just by connecting the bypass cables together or Center speaker is necessary.

Problem is when you lower the volume or make it louder with the volume roller on the steering wheel is the problem. Doesnt matter if it was soft or it was loud, everytime you "click" the roller up or down you get a distorted stuttering sound coming from the song thats playing.

I'll try and make a video of it, its very strange.

I've also found that roller for each "click" moves volume too much, needs to increase/decrease volume in smaller increments. I find it's too quiet, then too loud with one click.

Concerning new update, I will make some video to explain things today.
I see sudden large volume over bt call may be bothersome for people, and there is a way to regulate the volume (which was not possible before), but I also do see the reason to change our BT app to control the volume more easily.

I have to give props to Daniel as well, he does address a lot of stuff and try to help out as much as he can (not always easy to address everything). Cannot say the same about other vendors and I respect that.

I had the latest Sept version updated and the center speaker connected (since Day 1).

The volume control is a disaster! Perhaps it’s Android’s default, but it’s very broken. The steering wheel volume roller controls the system volume, alarm, ringer and call volume, depending what’s active. I almost died of shock when the Google Maps voice spoke for the first time. Why?? That’s because I used to set the volume at max for all in Volume Adjust apk. And Android seems to adjust alarm volume by default?!

Tried to fiddle around without success and fired up Google to look for workarounds. In the meantime I’ve installed this app “Volume Control - Vollynx). It helps to lock the alarm volume, call volume, ringer volume at lowest setting. This help me save my ears.

But I noticed this happened after I enabled Park Radar Switch in Realsun Settings. Disabling this working fine.?

RSNAv will only switch to backup camera in reverse and as we go to drive mode immediately turns off. OEM system shows Park Radar screen until speed goves above 10 kms i drive mode. This helps to see info from front Park sensors also.

I get nearly same behavior by enabling the Park Rador button in Realsun settings, but end up with problem that OEM screen popsup frequently and does not stay in Android view.

Does any one have this issue.?

Contacts app does not show up any contacts.

When I try to add accounts from Contacts app, I get the error message as toast " Duo preview accounts are not supported yet".

Any one know what this error is.? And how to fix it and get google contacts synchronized.?

This is a installation problem. I think the 3.5 mm jack behind the RSNAV might be loosely connected . It should be fixed firmly .

I suffered with that problem for 2 weeks and yesterday I opened up again and connected the cable firmly and it solved the problem.

Try it. It was the hint given by Daniel and it worked for me.

According to our passed conversation it shouldn’t be connected to the ACC of the unit but to the car’s fuse box…
I’m concerned that by having the camera ‘always on’, at least when the engine is, it might just burn out.
There must be a way to make the unit switch to the front cam for say 10 seconds when you put the gear in fwd the same way it switches to the back-up cam when you put it in reverse…
Couldn’t there be a routine that switches to front cam when the canbus turns off the reverse cam?
And can’t the unit power the front cam through ACC during the 10 seconds it needs to be on?

I swapped my unit back in june (unfortunately too early to get a 2nd gen) and I’m pretty sure that the GPS antena connector was sma rather than fakra.
I can either use an adapter like this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/202460109614 to connect the external sma antena or use the car’s own antena with a fakra extension since I do not use the MMI for nav…
It looks like some of us already use the oem antena without any issue… So, question is: is it safe or not?

This is a installation problem. I think the 3.5 mm jack behind the RSNAV might be loosely connected . It should be fixed firmly .

So I've never been able to hear Google navs voice sounds since I installed the unit last year. I don't hear the nav voice through AUX or FM/AM.

Would the suggestion of factory reset resolve my issue? Don't want to do the process of a factory reset if it's not even going to work.

Well, you get a rooted android phone with magisk,
find our boot_verified.img from our firmware zip file and copy it to the android phone
run magisk, and have it installed to our boot_verified.img - I don't remember which but there is an option that you can select img file to magisk installed.
And then copy back that modified img file to our zip file and flash it again.
But When you are doing this, I think you should have to do it whole eMMC flashing, which requires USB male to male and a windows laptop.
I tried to distribute it on our SD card updatable firmware, but that modified img file won't be updated anyway using SD card method.

I can confirm that this method works perfectly !! Now I have root .

You must use a previous version of update.zip and change boot-verified.img with the patched boot.img from the last one. Flash with SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1728_Win in download mode only boot-verified.img .

With our bt app, it's more like one time registration.
After that you will be able to use the BT from the app's BT option. There is automatic prompt to choose OBDII device whenever an app is asking for serial BT. If not check your pass key. it could be 0000.

Tried toenable all permissions for DirectTV and HBONow apps. After loading the app and getting the splash screen they both still crash. Both apps are updated thru play store.

Now Netflix and YouTube are pausing themselves after 10 to 15 seconds of play. I hit play to restart playback bit after another 15 secs they pause again on their own.

I tried a factory reboot but both apps have the same issue.

I simply want to connect a non-oem front camera, and for the latter to turn on for a few seconds right after I switch back from reverse... This way you get rear cam as soon as you put the gear in reverse and front cam for a short while after that...

I don't have APS nor front PDC like you do so the front camera would be very very useful when parking. I always thought that instead of having 2 rather useless video-in feeds one of them could be dedicated to the front camera and the power for the latter managed through the unit's ACC.

Anyway, look like it's not feasible and Daniel suggested an alternative external device to cater for this...

My unit had already contacts app from google. Which didn't work as mentioned.

I downloaded the google contacts app from play store. I could yhen see 2 contacts apps in the device. Even the from playstore didn't work for me.

When I open the app, it does not show up the added google account in the settings, it just shows option to signin. I tried to signin from agian, signin was successfull but at the end accord still does not show in contacts app.

In the main settings under google account, people sync is enable. People sync is something very old, in recent timea from Google its contacts sync. Is this some problem.?

i don't think this is an 8.8 or 10 incl issue because other users have the same echo issue.
I think it is an software bug. normally the software needs to cut out the voice and environmental noises but i think it does not correctly

I remember echo was problem to someone and it was caused because both rsnav and his cellphone was listening at the same time. However, I know sickday has the problem with sim call too.

Daniel,

You state the problem with button assignments being the different hardware versions fitted. Thus you would need different firmware for each version. I am assuming that the piece that translates the serial communication from the buttons to android allows no software configuration and everything needs to be hardcoded in firmware.

How about translating all the buttons to a keycode to android, and then in android handle everything in software? So pretty much like JoeJoeJoe describes below with an Xposed module, or by maybe a custom coded hook into the android OS. That would keep the firmware the same for all models, and would allow an extended configuration of mappings by user configuration.

So as far as possible, buttons would map to something useful in android, and when not possible due to overlap, it would map to some unused key, which can then be reassigned in affected systems by software configuration.

Found a way to remap the buttons. Now i have media next/previous on steering wheel.
U need 1 time root (kingo trick should be enough), just to install xposed framework. In the xposed module pbmc those unknown buttons, rsnav uses, can be remapped. I remaped the left side of steering wheel for media control. Now i am a bit more happy with rsnav :)77607

10.25 inch, Version 1, I also have the echo when using the bluetooth.

Thought I'd chime in here. 7", version 2, RHD hardware, I don't have an echo when using the unit BT.

That said, I have switched to using the Audi BT so I can early trigger the hotspot with Tasker, so by the time the unit boots my wifi is good to go.

We all appreciate your work, Daniel. Even though I had the faulty unit that's now in customs for a month, I still recommend you to anyone who asks :)

After the recent SW update, Auto Kit changed to Auto Play.

I have updated the Auto Play app to latest version. It shows the error "Box version does not match". I have also updated the box to the latest available version of .Img file from the rsnav wiki. But still it shows the same error.

What am I missing.?

Hi all, first post here.

I installed the 10.25 unit this week in my manual transmission 2014 A4 with MMI 3g+ and oem backup camera. I have a few questions that I hope the group can answer:

1. I wasn't able to secure the screen using the two machine screws in the back. The clip nuts were angled in such a way that I couldn't get the screws to thread. Any tips?

2. I get the backup view from the oem camera only when I'm in the oem MMI interface. I understand there's some complexity with this camera and the manual transmission but I wonder if there's any option to get the reverse view while in the Android interface?

3. I found the install really challenging, and I have had some experience in this area. Anyway, I accidentally hit the car start button while running the CAN wires and now have steering, TPMS and airbag warnings. I assume I can clear these with VCDS or OBDEleven? My VCDS cable died but I have an OBDEleven dongle arriving tomorrow.

4. Has anyone figured out a way to use the aux input for other sources, either using the Android interface, or switching in the MMI, without a mechanical change in connector? My kids would like to play music in the car but I would prefer them no to pair their phones over Bluetooth. I've seen stereo switching boxes that might work, but the potential for ground loops/noise increases. The Android interface shows a number of aux inputs but I don't see anything in the wiring harness but composite video connectors.

For 1; I used a small file to open up the slot a little bit more. Then there is no risk if cross threading

Yesterday I figured out my dongle is AutoKit labled and uldated to AutoKit. But still I have same error.

Can someone point me to the latest .img file for the box update.?

I used the one available from wiki, and looks it is from 05.2018, it still does not support Over the Air update.

From the wiki, I find there is img file and apk file for box. Should I also install that apk.? But its labled AndroiPlayBox, while my dongle labled AndroidKit.

1. Thanks, I'll take a look but not sure how that will help with the speed nuts. Seems like the top and the bottom of the nut are out of alignment because of how it's clipped to the panel.
2. Yes, I have OEM Camera selected in the Realsun settings. I still have to be on the MMI side for anything to appear on screen.

I used a USB hub on the RSNav's USB outlet. I'm running 2 USBc, one lighting and one USB extension. All but one of my USBc cords are routed to the armrest. Popping in a thumb drive is recognized instantly. I put all my video media on there and use VLC for a player. I have a SD card reader to swap with the thumb drive but haven't tried it yet.

I was unsure if the LTE bands were determined by hardware or baseband firmware, so I updated to the latest North America FW for HW Version 2 (M8.1.0.1.09181956). This resulted in a "unknown" baseband version and no cellular connectivity. I then flashed the latest Europe/Korea/Australia FW for HW Version 2 (M8.1.0.1.09182047). Cellular functionality returned and I'm now actually able to occasionally get a 3G connection, but (obviously) no LTE.

Thus, I conclude that I somehow ended up with the wrong baseband hardware. Has anyone seen anything similar?

Yes you can. It's much faster than the Android boot, but there is a bug that makes all the buttons unresponsive until you switch to the RSNav interface and back, so you cant really use it until android is booted. At least with my MMI 3G+.

My colleague has an A4 from 2009 with this mmi (see photos) and is interested in buying a rsnav but I am not sure whether it will work. Is this mmi compatible with RSNAV?

Hello Everyone! I drive an 2011 Audi A4 B8 Automatic I believe with RSNAV system now in it. Every time I reverse I get the blue screen, I believe I have tried every way to wire the car. I have looked through many of the posts on here but none give an exact representation and also the RSNAV website doesn't give much help either. Thanks! ]

I have the wires connected as follows.
RCA Yellow to the plug for camera, Brown Power to the Red that connects to yellow RCA.
Then the orange plugs to the camera (obviously). The red then with the Yellow of the interference device. The black from the plug with the black of interference and the brown with the reverse light. And then the Red of interference with the black and white of reverse light.

But I am not getting any video source to my device.
Any visual diagrams would be great and preferred.

I am now doubting whether it is a 2G High as it has the CD changer and not the SD cards. I will ask him to send me a photo of the software version to be sure.

For those who want a "home-button":
I do not need the nav shortcut often. I installed a app (black screen app) as dummy and used it as nav app (assign over original launcher). After this i build a tasker routine that everytime this app opens it goes back to homescreen. So: nav button works as home button.

By the way:
Media Button= selected media app
Radio = selected radio app
Tel= bt tel option
Settings = settings
Name = home
Scroll = media next/prev
And so on... this would great. But we only have a nav button🤯.

I'm not an electrical engineer but I'm pretty sure you can't read the data bus with one signal wire. I've done plenty of canbus hacking on the Jeep platform but I could be wrong. Also, the hardware required to read a reverse signal of the canbus probably costs more then the £20 you paid for it.

Have you tried grounding the blue wire to see if it a signal, I'd say put 12v down it but as a canbus network is only 2.5v that could be bad!

Fur the price you paid I'd wager you the entire amount it is a 12v switched feed that you somehow need to tap into a reverse line.

When it comes again, i think you have to Cut the White Line of the Hazard flasher button. And then delete again.

i may have missed it in the thread, but is the TPMS issue caused by this unit as well? i am getting the TPMS light. my previous wheel set didnt have sensors so i had the dash light anyway, wasnt sure if this still causes it because recently swapped all my TPMS sensors (i have a 2009 with actual sensors in the wheels), it went away for like a minute when i started driving and it came right back. already tried clearing and it comes back. and it's not a bad sensor it seem as it says TPMS system malfunction, rather than usually when it just says air pressure low. im also getting the parking brake and airbag issue so i know about those, but wondering what to do about the tpms.

I have connected center dash speaker (my car originally does not have it). Even though media is on aux, Navi instructions are always routed only through Center Speaker. Is it the expected behavior.?

When music and navi both are from RSNAV, its quite annoying that music from all speakers stops, navi instruction (in background music) comes from center speakers alone.

Also in my volume adjust app, all the volumes are less than 50%. But still ater a restart some times volume from central speaker is terribly high.

Is there something fixed on these points.?

It may be easier to crack Magnetti Marelli speedo display if we know how to access to it. But I have no idea how to begin for that.

Okay, I need help.
This is one of my EU customer having an unidentified noise issue.
I've sold over 700+ and as far as I know, I never heard this type of noise.
The car is 2012 A4 Avant TDI BNAV in Switzerland.
The client hired a professional installer and is not capable of dismantling by himself.

First of all, the origin of noise is not RSNAV's audio output port.
This is not one device doing this but any device installed to his car does this.
It's not the noise isolator malfunction and noise isolator is completely ineffective for that noise.
This only happens when the diesel motor is on and running.
My hypothesis is this may be ground loop or electric short.
Oddly, when MMI aux port with other mobile devices it doesn't make any noise.
This happens only with RSNAV 3G MMI BNAV model, but it's his second device
and the one I handpicked in China after testing in a 3G MMI car confirming no issue at all.
Another reason I think this is ground interference is that RSNAV takes power from 3G MMI device so there goes inevitable ground loop created.
Usually, the noise isolator suppresses any loop noise well, But that's apparently out of scale.
Again, it only happens when the diesel motor is running.

Any idea? I am thinking to buy an air ticket to Switzerland ...

At this point I cannot even access the Google Store to update any apps. The screen is popping up with a message and I press ok and the same cycle over and over.

Still nothing to assign function to symphony/Concert radio roller. I'm usign factory BT and Steering roller make me crazy to manage calls during using the unit. Its better to pay some extra and having a efficient control to the unit.

Has anyone solved the issue of blue screen on the reverse camera?

Also have issues with youtube and youtube tv pausing every few seconds. Whats the fix?

Also how do you switch between the google now launcher(stock android screen) and the new launcher?

Also when switching to mmi. The screen turns off for a few seconds(5-10) then turns back on?

It was working great before the update. Do you have the backdated firmwares to download?

I had the YouTube issue. Netflix was doing the same thing. I ended up downloading Vanced YouTube app and haven't had any issues with it, plus you can play it in the background.

Also Netflix has started working normally out of the blue as of a few weeks ago.

- Steering wheel left roller and buttons/ Up - Previous track, Down - Next Track function supported only in Ruixun BT app, for now,/ Press 'Mode' button long to switch between 'Track control mode' and 'UI navigating mode(like before).
- Sound Mixing(allowing BT and important android announcement heard in Radio and Sat radio) can be now turn on and off in Settings. Please deactivate this if you have echo or weird speaker issues.
- Now Ruixun BT caller app has integrated volume adjustment bar in case of using sound mixing. In sound mixing, the handsfree volume will respond only to this volume bar.
- Automatic brightness control values have been changed. Brighter in the daytime, darker in the night time
- MMI console navigation is now supported in CarPlay
- MMI console prev/next is now working in Ruixun BT.
- Gapps stability update
- Translation update

'Echo' is addressed if you read it again.
Deactivating sound mix will resolve the issue.

Prev/Next works with our own BT app of it's in background. Just broadcasting for legacy apps shows other bugs so postponed full feature available.

It's kinda sad.

....you can turn off steering roller in android if you want... you know we can't block any function of factory, but only ours. If you expect our device to intercept and block steering signals to factory element in specific condition, that's impossible. Also, whole point of keep fixing our bt app is to encourage to use it because it integrates better.

Just supporting RUIXUN_BT for now is due to conflicts of we broadcast the key entries to all background apps.

Unfortunatley not. I would also like to have the option to use standard bluetooth functionality. For MMI users, the current bluetooth implementation is not really helpful. I already have a car phone, and I don't care much about bluetooth streaming now that I have a full android system in the car itself. Would much rather have the option to do bluetooth file transfers and connect my ODBEleven dongle.

I checked with Daniel about this and he mentioned he is still testing it and would let us know the setup for fast charging and using AA at the same time. This was sometime ago and haven't heard until now.

Calling, music, Navi works seemless in AA and unfortunately cant use it when battery is low. Its really a constraint..

Hi Daniel,

thank you for all the progress you are making with the unit. It is getting better and better.

Regarding the mapping of the buttons you may want to try to use the approach of MTCX units. Before I continue I want to make clear that I know nothing about android coding, and I have never coded a single line, so I may well say bullsh*t.

In MTCX units there is an app which "controls" some settings of the action of the buttons. Basically the app intercepts the buttons and sends broadcasts to no native apps to next/prev song, mute, etc. When you press a button if any app is in focus it will take the broadcast. If no app is put in focus, the last one that was in focus or the one that is selected in the settings as "main" will recevied the broadcasat.

It does not work with all apps in the market but it does with the main ones (pandora, google, spotify, and many more). After all, we all end up using a handful of apps.
