Also I was told this:
“It is being explored. There will either be multiple files you can install yourself for different ranges like e20-e30, e30-e40, etc or we will be able to integrate full Flex Fuel. We are confident full Flex is possible but until we are nearer further R&D results, we don't want to mislead you just in case.”

Yea, hank sells a flashing tool and you can return the car to stock or switch between all the tunes that come with.

So just to clarify, will there be a stage 1 flash without any hardware modifications??? When I tuned my Golf R I liked seeing the progression of power as I upgraded through the stages.

Based on couple folks' brief review, I am sure this is an amazing kit.
I just wish they do a better job of marketing (maybe learn from APR :P) and better explanation of what we are purchasing haha. What are the gains for each stage/fuel grade are we talking about? What testing/data available that intercooler is superior to stock (not doubting it is but data please)? Do flash suite come w/ instruction and what computer requirement do we have (mac compatible or?)?

So who created the files(software)? Custom code or Iroz? This is the first time I heard about Custom Code. Either way, it seems very appealing to the buyer because not only the power that you get but also the price and combination of maps[up]

Custom Code (CC) wrote the software for IROZ for the newest TTRS and RS3. United Motorsport (UM) used to do the software but the switch to CC is a new one.

That 1.629 sec 60ft is as good as is going to get unless you put slicks (just my opinion). I think the Intercooler will give you an additional 2 or maybe 3 MPH trap speed (hopefully)
There's no question that downpipe and tune is amazing. was this on 91oct? I am not sure what Vegas has for gas.

How much weight did you save with the seats and wheels/tires. Yesterday I took my car out and ran one pass with a passenger the second without so I dropped about 200 pounds. Just the weight difference was worth .17 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

We tried Stage 2’tune but with stock Intercooler it couldn’t make the power; heat soaked quickly and pulled timing. My car was scanned for Intercooler development but it’s not finished yet.
The pass was Custom Code Stage 1 Tune amd Iroz DP

Car weighed 3,330 stock full weight of car and full tank of fuel. Car weighs 3,140 with these reductions and 1/4 tank for the race. I weigh 195-200lbs. I also have the top part of the back seat removed. Leather / Alcantara Diamond Stitch with Headrest Logo Cushions getting made so that might add a few pounds but match the interior perfectly. Wheels are TSW Interlagos 18x9.5 et53 275/35-18 RE-71R. Braille i35X 11.5 lb Li battery on the way.

Seats are amazing and not as aggressive as most race seats so easier to get in and out. Will be even nicer once the cushions I detailed in earlier post are done.
“Blue button” what you are seeing is an Arkon phone mount arm that mounts to the base seat bolt

general rule of thumb is On a 10-second car, about 15 whp = 1 mph gained in 1/4.... so the unitronic rs3 ran 124 and the apr ran 127 so tells me the apr tune is running about 45 whp more than the unitronic.... totally plausible hp gain going from 93oct to race gas tune... so my guess is the results from apr are results of their race gas tune file

Smoke and mirrors, has any APR tune “1/4 mile” times they’ve posted been matched by your avg customer.
The dyno‘s and time slips will pour in but having a CC/Iroz tune is going to be like having a DAZ tuned RS3.
Also I believe Iroz will be trying to put a dealer network together to help out. Lusky any confirmation on this?

Stage 2 Mk7 Golf R’s
Rob and Danielle Roth 12.24
Alec Villar and Tennis Quest 11.96
Jnuachy’s Stage 2 S3 on bags ran 12.2, probably the best of the 3 considering air ride.
All happened at 0- (-1100)DA’s in Houston Texas at Royal Purple known for putting down fast times and where TX2k happens where many world records are set.

Hank doesn’t believe in cats and it’s pretty tame bc you still have the resonators and mufflers.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Partly disagree regarding having resonators since they are removed with the DP kit from Iroz's. One must run there secondary pipes if you want to run there dp since they were designed different and can not mate up to the stock secondary cats (mid pipe). Having purchased the DP kit I'll admit I would have loved to have used the secondary stock cats to remove some of the sound and smell. But I do agree on R&D already being done so I to doubt there will be a catted verson of these DP's from Iroz's. They seem like an all out performance orentented instead of in-between mod'er that want best of both worlds.

You loose the secondary cats, but there are still 2 factory resonators followed by the muffler. I don’t feel the resonators do anything to help tame the smell. The car is stinky, but I love the sound. Just try not to sit idle for long, lol.

I think he means with E85 it won't be a problem. But you're right, a tune shouldn't be able to remove everything and you'll still be able to smell E85 without cats. It just won't burn your eyes and nose like regular gasoline.

I have no doubt they can "code out" the cats so your car wont recognize them not being there, but the fact that you physically do not have cats cannot be tuned out. Cats remove hydrocarbons and byproducts burned during the internal combustion process. That can never be "tuned out" and thus cannot get rid of the smell. Not trying to bust your balls just trying to clear this up for someone who may be interested in these products...

+1... "turning the cats off" in the ecu just gets rid of check engine light but it doe not change the fact that no engine is 100% efficient and unburnt fuel will exit the engine and enter the exhaust and you will get gas smell with no physical cats to burn up that unburnt fuel..
as others have mentioned though, you can dial the tune in more and lean out the fuel to get less unburnt fuel exiting the engine, but you will still get gas smell..... that is the price to pay with a catless system.... more HP and more lightheaded when parked in a parking lot running the engine :)

All a tune can do is lean it out a bit at idle - which can reduce the gas smell a LITTLE. Every car I've ever had without cats smelled BAD. The garage smelled, my clothes smelled. Never again. They have high performance cats these days and you hardly notice the difference in power. I'd give 10hp just to not smell like a 50s service station all the time. Way to ruin a car and experience.

How did you do in the dyno? [:D]
MrBlonde
11-08-2017, 02:20 AM
general rule of thumb is On a 10-second car, about 15 whp = 1 mph gained in 1/4.... so the unitronic rs3 ran 124 and the apr ran 127 so tells me the apr tune is running about 45 whp more than the unitronic.... totally plausible hp gain going from 93oct to race gas tune... so my guess is the results from apr are results of their race gas tune file
Dynos are not a good way to compare horsepower made from tune to tune. Show me the NHRA track weight scale slip, the weather station readout (DA) and the trap speed and I'll draw my own conclusions about which tune made better power.
Too much chicanery with fuel, weight reduction, rubber, etc to compare tuner claims of horsepower gains. This all becomes less important as the tune market matures and lots of folk get out there in their real street cars. Then we get to know which tune results in what traps (and ETs).

. no one said anything about dynos and timeslips have already been out there for a few weeks (which you can get DA from) .... my assertion was that the difference in trap seems like race gas(or some similar hp gaining fuel), and i was right, they used e85 to run the higher traps

I am not an APR fan, matter of fact I said I would never buy there stuff again. However, before you jump the gun, know that APR ran the same time with a factory car just tuned and seats removed on e85. Youre looking at a pretty modified result from IROZ to match it. Downpipe and intercooler upgraded. It sure would be nice if a tune could reduce the smell. I am sick of my garage smelling like I parked a snowmobile or 2 stroke dirt bike in it! I have major doubts though. Cats exist for a reason!!

APR trapped 127mph vs 131mph with IROZ
Think about that for a second, and look at the ET on the car that ran 135mph in the right lane. Trap speed is indication of power, ET is an indication of how hard you launch and grip down the track.
FYI RS7 Stage 2 will trap 132mph

Amen brother, I knew I wasn't alone. Ended up removed my DP's not so much for the rattling exhaust sound that was annoying but the smell did bothered me (knew it would but did it anyway). These cars are short wheel base, the tip pipes are close to the cabin. I like to part some times with the car running to run the ac in FL and the smell of a catless exhaust isn't pleasent imo. I do believe some people have more sensitive smells then other people so it may not bother others. After removing it my goal was to have find some type of high flow cats and have them added to Iroz's secondard cat-less pipes just to clean up the smell. But I'm no welder nor is there a lot of options out there that would fit in the tight space. Do i think APR would do a catted dp? doubt it, would Milltek possibly but it most likely wont flow as well as other creations.

I don’t think you understand the affects of 2,400 DA that Iroz ran in while APR ran in negative DA. Also Fontana would not let Iroz burn / scrub the tires prior to launching. This Iroz RS3is capable of much better 60’ in this current setup.
Also e85 which cares much less about the IAT’s therefore APR didn’t have any issues with knock and could also turn off the knock sensors if needed for the pass.
End the end all the major tuners will achieve max power level on stock turbo.

when in the 10's, rule of thumb is around 15 hp per increase in trap mph so 4*15 = 60hp so that would likely be IC+ dp gains
but keep in mind iroz did it in +2400 DA while apr did it in 600DA so if iroz ran in the 1800 DA better track apr did then iroz would of roughly been 10.4/132 (basically picking up 1/10th in ET and 1 mph in trap over the 4 mph they are already up on apr)

Couldn't agree more. Drag racers understand DA and the effects on both trap speed and ET. And in the end all the tuners will max out the OEM turbos. But right now IROZ is burning it up for early adopters and showing that APR is not the only good alternative out there. As consumers (and for-fun drag racers) we should love competition for these tunes and hardware.

Wow, that's some teardown. Are you just assessing strengths and weaknesses, or building the engine?
Would that even be needed to get into the 9s, or are you shooting for more?

Exactly Brad! Not really a fair comparison. The only way to see who is making the better tune/upgrades are to have them side by side at the same track with the same temp, humidity, altitude...... blah blah blah And why are there no numbers posted for the stages on the IROZ site? Its really hard to decipher anything on there!
The nice thing about CC is I can tune/log from home send it over to them and they adjust the file to fit your climate. Granted this ECU adjusts better than any other car I’ve owned. But here in Texas having a tune built for your climate is important. I’ve been told my car is requesting 2-3psi more boost than hanks and I’m on 93. Haven’t launched the car yet but I will say I haven’t broke the car loose in 2nd gear in a straight line since my big turbo subbie days. I’m expecting 10’s in a couple weeks on tune only no weight reduction modifications.

So many options of turbo kits on iroz site im lost..... Most likely 650 will be where i like to end up as i have a feeling adding more hp wont relate to more smiles on the street. Curious to hear what hp people are planning to run as a DD. For at home tuning this is a must now these days. APR tune might make a lil more hp in the end if it does great but the versatility of the at home tune from other companies is what will turn people away from APR. Glad Hank decided otherwise.
@brad65ford curious on how your liking the upgrades after a lil while? Has any issues came up or annoyances or exhaust open up and sound any different after the mileage?

The Iroz Stock Hybrid with Xona Internals will do what the 650 will do. IMS710 and up will be the choice for the FL 2.5.
Iroz / Custom Code tuning will max out the safe power on stock turbo, hybrid, and big turbo.
I will start with the IMS710 next.

The stock rods can handle ~540wtq. You can run 710,780,820, etc and Iroz will tune the wtq flat below 540 until you upgrade engine internals.
For example on MQB 2.0. IMS650 stock block is 550whp 420wtq. MQB 2.0 Iroz built motor IMS650 is 614whp 520wtq (wtq limited here for the DQ250 gears, clutchpacks are fine)
I’m building motor so will run the IMS710 around 650whp 650wtq and DQ500 can handle 750wtq

Not exactly.
Stock turbo they max whp and wtq on e85. Hybrid expect the same. On the IMS big turbo kits they limit wtq based on what stock rods can handle. If the turbo is big enough you could see where the whp does not max out the turbo because wtq is set flat. I would guess you would start to see that on the 780 and up.
My guess is the 710 on stock motor will do 650whp 540wtq. I will run built motor and valve springs so turn up the wtq and also rev out to 8,000 rpm.

Lusky,
Using your connection with Hank, could you do this community a favor please? I believe couple tried to reach out to iroz for more info on RS3 options with no response yet.
Information such as before and after CC tuning, difference in power between stages would be helpful in the website. Also, if they are going to charge 1600 (equivalent of very well known brand such as wagner), it would be nice if they post actual info regarding their intercooler info (weight, comparison to stock unit on performance such as temp, pressure drop, etc.).

Knowing people that are running prototype parts from AMS on their Nissan GTRs this is what it takes to evolve a killer platform. I'm the opposite....I think this is a beautiful thing and kudos for taking the first step. Knowing people that are running prototype parts from AMS on their Nissan GTRs this is what it takes to evolve a killer platform. I'm curious where the upper limits of the stock block and crank are...Giveer' the beans and hit it with the IMS1000 kit and throw a 500 shot on top of it.[hail]
Its a beautiful thing yes but not on my new 70k car lol. But thats just me. I don’t mind looking at other people doing it though lol. Then again where i’m from most places do half assed jobs so the engine might leak oil or they might forget to put something back.

Ouch it hurts me to see a brand new engine like that. But on the upside im sure its gonna be better than before.

Just trying to understand your post. You don't like looking at engine internals or builds because you don't have confidence the places near you would reassemble correctly and it might result in oil leaks or the like?

Yeah thats pretty much it. I don’t mind looking at engine builds so as long as its done by a reputable shop that uses quality stuff and does shit by book. For me if i have a new car with 0 miles i just wont do it until at least 50k miles etc. But thats just me.

Custom Code / Iroz will be making the flex hardware available soon. Lucky for me e85 is ready available. I also run e85 in my A3 IMS710 UM Tuned but I have put 91 in it and it does have the flex hardware and the software auto adjusts.

That's the beauty of Flex Fuel, it will adjust the tune based on the octane sensed.

But doesn't custom code come with a little obd dongle to be able to switch files, can't you just keep that in the car and then at the gas station switch to 93?
Next time I drive my car we could see 650whp 600+wtq on stock clutchpacks

curious on where you guys will be getting clutchpacks from and some recommendations of decent companies or company to avoid in the future?

This is another reason to run CC tuning and deal with Hank from what i've gather and a few messages i've sent him. Seems very down to earth and customer service is top notch, not your average call to an company rep not knowing anything about the products. Very impressed so far with IROZ and Hank, my decision on tuning company is pretty much done. Just want to wait for any mystery bug on the RS3 to appear if any. Big thanks to Lusky for all the info your dropping us and furthering this platform development via info for the masses.

I am just concerned from some other forum review of him (lack of responses, customer service, etc. )along with not much info to go by from IROZ website. But you guys are definitely making me feel more comfortable.

Here's a quick test you can do lol send both APR and Hank a message on FB or IG I'm pretty sure i know who will respond first. Also look at APR's track record of broken promises and beta testing almost done.... B8.5 A4 stg 3 kit was promised for over 16months.... so yah the 2 weeks comment is an actual thing. In the end all to their own im not paying for multiple flashes and taking time off work to get reflashed etc. Lol i can buy another tune with the one day off i take. Until they get up to date and have a flash at home service i doubt ill ever get another APR tune. Just not worth the money or time for me.

I’m doing the same as you. I’ve sent multiple emails to hank without a reply. I have no idea if I have an issue how to get a hold of anyone. I just ordered a downpipe for my 17 golf r from apr and have been taking to someone within 2 minutes of calling there this week. I got my downpipe from iroz for my rs3 and the customer service side of things was not award winning. It took a month to get and there’s no number to call and emails would go unanswered until the new guy he hired finally emailed me back. I’m terrified to tune my rs3 and have no help if something goes wrong. I don’t have Facebook and you shouldn’t need to messenger a business to get customer service. Luckily I have until April or May before I take it back out of storage. Does anyone know of a phone number to talk to these guys?

When nobody was answering it was literally because nobody worked in the office at the time. Some people had to wait longer for their RS3 Downpipe if they were not one of the 25 people that ordered the first day. Custom Code has near 24 hour customer support with real calibrators.

Never spoke directly with Hank, though I've spoke with a few guys that work with him indirectly as well as helped with the tuning of these ttrs and rs3's. Does seem a little tricky to get a hold of Iroz's at times though Alik is always there to help if there are issues. Glad to hear APR will answer your responses, they seem like a very large company with is a good and bad thing, sorry i just get rubbed the wrong way with those guys. As I said you wont see an APR tune without the rest of the components to go along with it IMO. They are great at marketing though Iroz's ain't no nobody regarding performance products with the 5 cylinder, they teamed up with CC and did a great job thus far it seems, time will tell but that's like everything else. I too was waiting for APR tune but pulled the trigger with Iroz/CC's tune since I already had all there performance parts. Life is short I'm not waiting any more for what will be similar in performance imo. Moving on to the next mods for my car. BTW its always a nice feeling when your purchasing goodies for your car in which the owner has the exact car as you. Hank seems down to earth hopefully he continues this path for more power with our RS3's and TTRS's BUT with the stock bottom end while he lets Brian aka Lusky build the crap out of his block lol.

Hybrid turbos take the stock turbos and modify them. I think people like them because, with a stock external footprint, they don't need extra mods just to fit.

It's basically taking the stock turbo and changing out the guts. Like bigger turbine wheel while keeping the stock frame intact.

is hanks car on hybrids or new turbo ? Impressive either way, but if that's on hybrids then that's pretty insane :)
from the history of their Instagram......I believe it is
full frame turbo (bigger turbo that requires larger exhaust manifold connection), downpipe, intercooler, and I'm not sure what fuel but my guess is e85
again, they don't disclose everything due to it still being in the research phase.
The part I'm most excited for is that they opened the block and apparently they were confident enough to bolt this thing onto a stock internals, stock valves, stock everything block! and raise the rev limiter to 8k!!
Dare I say this Audi 5 cylinder is the new modern age 2jz?!

sounds to me like he's saying is the turbo is not stock, but the tune/boost they are running is for stock internals... once they beef up the internals they will put in a more aggressive tune/turn up boost which would net an additional ~200hp
at least that's how i read it
